But John didn't heard him as his smile widened seeing the big, chunk of meat that David gave to his bowl, and just seeing his excited look over a small piece made David indulge in contentment as he ate his ramen. His expression could make anyone full!
They were both eating peacefully along with several people who stayed the night here, with all the sound of dishes and bottles, the scent of beers and hot soup created the melodic mood that anyone would love to feel. The cold breeze during the night even made the place memorable.
David had yet to finish his bowl when John already ordered his second, he was about to dig in when a man suddenly stood beside their table. They both raised their head just to see a young handsome man looking at them with such dark eyes.
But John didn't see anything at all as he exclaimed in surprise, "Wilrin!"
David turned to him, "You know him?"
John vigorously nodded.
Seeing their close interaction made the young man frown but immediately pulled it back at the back of his head and forced a smile, "Mr. Kalman, I didn't expect to see you here."
David who knew very well who he was stood and offered a hand, "I am also not expecting you here, Mr. Jack!"
They both shared a handshake before Wilrin sat beside John and placed a box of pastry on the table, seeing the attractive cover with colorful rice cakes, John already drooled. As he saw this, Wilrin broke a genuine smile seeing the old man's gluttony expression again. His bad mood seemed to have dissipated.
"I bought the best rice cakes the City had back there." He opened the box and the aromatic smell of varied pastries filled John's nose, he even saw the fluffy rice cakes and well-crafted doughnuts aligned together. He unconsciously bit his lips and looked at Wilrin.
Wilrin laughed seeing him make the expression as if asking permission to eat, "It's all yours." He said and John no longer held back and took one.
"You knew each other?" David broke their peaceful intimacy that made Wilrin's smile stiffen on his face. He then turned to the extra person.
"Yes, for a while now," he replied as he lift his chin.
David was amazed, "Really?" he turned to John who was busy munching the powdery rice cake that Wilrin bought, "This was really unexpected!"
John took another rice cake while his mouth was still full and asked, "You knew each other?"
Wilrin nodded, "Sir David here is our gallery director, he handles everything that was under our art and design department."
John was amazed, he didn't knew David had other jobs except for being a writer!
Seeing his expression in awe of David, Wilrin cleared his throat and said, "And he is working under me, I am the CEO, I handle every department that our corporation has. I am the one who gives the budget and assigns people, I am the head." he said with emphasizing tone.
John turned to him again and nodded in amazement, "That must be a tough job. You're amazing."
Wilrin made a victory smile, "Of course, it takes a great man to reach this far.""You're a very great man," John said as he took another rice cake into his mouth.
Wilrin snorted as he rubbed his nose with his thumb, "You said it yourself."
He was smiling like an idiot but stopped when David made a complicated expression as he stared at them both. Noticing it, Wilrin immediately straightened up as he cleared his throat and turned to John who just ate and munch, completely minding his own world.
"Didn't I told you to mind how you eat in public spaces? Look at you." Wilrin frowned seeing the powder of the rice cake smeared both of his bulging cheeks.
He took his handkerchief and wiped the old man's cheeks carefully as John let him wipe it off and waited for him to end so he can swallow another one.
"You two seem very close." David couldn't help to comment, "I wonder how you became friends with John?"
Wilrin didn't want to say that he was the first to approach since he was pursuing John's ex-wife, "Our project was around the central avenue so it is evident that I would meet the workers there."
David nodded, "That's amazing, out of hundreds of people there, you met and got close to John." He said and turned to stare at John who was still munching, "I stayed in this town to get inspiration then I met John who gave enough light to pull me up." his tone became gentle as he stared at John with such a strange gaze.
Wilrin frowned as sneakily pulled the old man closer to him, "I read your latest book, Mr. Kalman, it was amazing."
"Thank you, Mr. Jack, I only managed to create that one thanks to John." he said again that Wilrin couldn't help but twitched his lips hearing him mentioning John again with such a soft tone.
Now that his line of thought had come to this, he couldn't help but remember Jillian's words.
But he immediately shoved it off.
How can this old man even flirt when all he could do was eat!
When John finally declared that he was full did they decided to go home but Wilrin couldn't longer hide his displeasure when David said that he would take John home.
"It's okay Mr. Kalman you must be tired. I can take John home." Wilrin took John's arm.
David insisted, "I am already familiar with the road towards his home, please rest assured Mr. Jack."
Wilrin raised a brow, "Home?" he remembered that he had never taken John home. He usually just send him back on that bookstore!
"Yes, I've been there a few times when I stayed here," David answered.
Wilrin's hold on John's arm tightened but seeing this sudden action coming from himself, he was surprised and immediately let go of John, the old man who already felt the pain from his force was also confused but didn't spoke.
"Until then!" David waved and led John to his car.
John also waved back at Wilrin, "Thanks for the pastry Wilrin, sleep well!"
But Wilrin stood there with his clenched fist, he saw the car went away but the burning feeling inside him didn't settle down!
