Prompt: Two people destined to love but not to be together.

"Room is clear!"
"I'm pushing ahead, cover me!"
"One down, one down, I'm healing up."
"I'm down, res me!"
Communication was never a misstep for Rhylee and Tyler. They finished up their video game before turning back to their webcams and smiling. "GG." Rhylee said. "I can't believe you pulled off that clutch." Tyler replied. Rhylee joking put her arms up to flex. "It's all about the skill!" She said playfully. "Yeah yeah, so now what." Tyler asked.
Rhylee rested her head on her hands and she cupped her face and looked at the webcam. "We could just chat." Tyler put his controller down and looked at her, "We could..."
"I don't think I could ask for a better partner." Rhylee boldly stated. "In Apex? Mm, maybe a professional, haha!" He chuckled. "Sure but we have such good communication and chemistry, you know?"
For a few weeks now, Rhylee had been throwing on the flirting thick. She had a major crush on Tyler and he always flirted back in subtle ways but they never made moves on each other. Tyler blinked a few times, trying to think of a response, and then he looked into his webcam for the moment. His gray blue eyes caught Rhylee's attention as she sighed in content-ness. "Yeah we have something for sure." Tyler said smirking.
"We could always have a lot more..." she said smiling. "Yeah yeah" he smiled by almost dismissed her comment. He liked her but he was dating his high school sweetheart.
Tyler and Rhylee lived a few states apart and had just recently met a little less than a year ago while gaming. She was married when they met and Tyler was single, but after some time, Rhylee came to terms of understanding her marriage wasn't what she wanted and split it off while Tyler ended up getting back with his ex girlfriend, whom he had a child with because they were high school sweethearts. He had rarely dated anyone else and the comfortability of being with her made him feel safe.
Tyler and Rhylee never met but had spoken every day since between and video chatting almost as often.
"How's Tyson?" She asked, beginning to scroll through tik toks. "He's okay, we just got him an iPhone so let's see how that goes." Tyler replied. "iPhone? How old is he!?" "13. I know..." Tyler sighed. "Holy crap, the world is so different now" Rhylee was in shock to see his son got an iPhone at 13. "Exactly, I was lucky to get a Reptar toy or something but nowadays the world is so dangerous he needed a phone while he walked to and from school and I'm not going to cheap out on my son." Tyler said adjusting his headset. "Yeah I get that." Rhylee said looking back up at him.
Seeing him through a screen kept her content but not satisfied enough. She wanted to hug him, to wrap her arms around him and make him smile. She never truly knew what he was thinking but knew he liked her enough to flirt back.
Tyler rarely spoke about his high school sweetheart. Whenever he did, he referred to her as "my girlfriend" instead of her name and he rarely spoke good things about her. Rhylee knew they still had sex because Tyler would tell her but other than that, they didn't seem like a match.

Everything between the two felt right and comfortable to love. But they never did fall in love together. Every time one was single, the other wasn't and was putting on a show of loyalty. The two were destined to love but not destined to be together. Rhylee slowly grew happier just to see him happy and he the same for her. Although in the back of their minds they knew they'd be happier together, it just wasn't written in the stars.
