"I can't believe she invited me along to" Charlie said to Alastor, who was humming a tune as they made their way to Rosie's.
Rosie wasn't always very chatty when it came to anyone else, sometimes she would speak to Charlie and the others but nine times out of ten she would be only at the hotel for Alastor. Sometimes she would bring deserts with her for everyone but...Charlie was way to afraid if she took a bite she would be eating someone else that was put into Rosie's cookies.
"She's quite the social one!" Alastor said with his normal enthusiastic tone.
"...do you think your shadow helper is a sprite?" Charlie asked, Alastor looked at Charlie then with confusion, not breaking his stride however.
"Hmm I don't know to be quite frank with you Charlie, it is quite a helpful little fellow so it is possible" Alastor then stopped right in front of Rosie's home, before turning on his heel and humming once again as he trotted toward his goal.
Rosie's front door.
Charlie would describe Rosie's home as a...gothic cottage core aesthetic, everything a shade of black and grey, yet flowers grew around the home and the home was just a tiny little cottage that honestly could be comforting...
If it wasn't where many get butchered.
Rosie was opening the door before Alastor had even a chance to knock, her small frame visible and of course she was already completely dressed and polished. Even at 9 in the morning which is apparently when her and Alastor set the time...unannounced to Charlie.Boy was that a wake up call.
Waking up to Alastor's shadow spraying you with a water bottle. Vaggie didn't enjoy that at all, to be fair Charlie didn't quite enjoy it either.
"Ah, right on time as usual" Rosie said, Rosie then landed her eyes on Charlie.
"Oh Alastor don't tell me you didn't tell the poor girl what time we arranged, she looks like she just rose from the grave" Rosie said, Charlie only had maybe five minutes to get dressed and put her hair up into a ponytail.
"I...may have not told her" Alastor mumbled, like a child being scolded by their mother.
"Oh dear, Charlie would you prefer coffee then?" Rosie said with a smile, flashing her sharp teeth.
"No no! I'm alright, thank you though!" Charlie said with as much enthusiasm as she could muster.
"Then come in" Rosie then left the door, opening the way for Alastor and Charlie to walk inside.
Unlike the hotel, Rosie's home was very easy to navigate, quite plain even. No pictures on the walls, very little decor, one would even say she was a minimalist.
The living room was also quite plain, Victorian era type couch and chairs surrounding a small coffee table that already had tea and snacks set on it.
"Oh goodness! Already have tea made and all?" Alastor commented, taking his place in one of the chairs.
As if he already knew exactly where to go.
"My mother always said to be on top of all things, no matter what time or place it is" Rosie stated simply, already pouring tea for the three of them.
"I also did invite you to my home so having everything ready is none to difficult" Rosie continued, handing Charlie and Alastor their tea's.
Charlie decided to sit in the other chair, she had only been here once. When Alastor was harmed heavily during a battle against Vox that tore apart half the hotel and they had no where to go. Rosie offered her home up to the beaten and winded hotel staff while Alastor recovered.
He may have won but damn if it wasn't by the skin of his teeth.
So in conclusion, Charlie still had no idea how to properly handle being in someone else's home.
"I won't make you wait to much longer where did I leave off yesterday?" Rosie asked as she sat in the middle of her couch, perfectly in front of her audience.
"I believe the sprite was asking for your help" Charlie recalled.
"Ah, yes well you see.."
.
.
.
"My help?" Rosie repeated.
"Yes, I have noticed the culprit goes after cannibals, the ones already craving the taste of flesh" Dew chirped, seeming unaffected by the fact Rosie ate her own kind.
"Does that...not bother you at all?" Rosie asked, her head spinning.
"No, many sprites eat humans, demons, etc....NOT US! But it's not uncommon" Dew rushed that last bit out due to Rosie's horror filled expression.
"Miss Dew I think you should let the poor woman rest before going any further, this is a lot to process. She's already having to get used to this place and now having this dumped onto her I'm sure she's feeling quite uneasy" Ramon said, appearing behind Dew.
"Oh...yes I believe you are quite right" Dew said sheepishly.
"Come ma'am, I have room already set up for you" Ramon said as he moved to Rosie's side and offer his hand to her.
Rosie noticed his hands were gloved, pure white against the dark skin of him, he looked as if he was made of ink.
Rosie decided not to push her sudden good fortune and took Ramon's hand.
He helped her out her seat, and then offer his arm to her.
Ah, this was something she was actually familiar too, a gentleman guiding her by arm to wherever they intended to take her.
"Ramon, such the perfect gentleman as always" Dew said with a giggle.
"Don't threat Rosie, he's highly respectful" Dew chirped, maybe the sprite felt Rosie's unease.
Ramon then lead Rosie to her room, opening the door for her and all.
The room was small, one bed and a nightstand. The sheets and blankets all red with a book laying perfectly straight on top of the nightstand. The walls were just as dark as the wooden door from before.
"I will leave you now, tomorrow I'll have you some new clothes as well, rest easy Miss Rosie" and with that Ramon closed the door. Leaving Rosie to her thoughts.
.
.
"Ramon seems like a butler" Charlie commented.
"Ah, yes, I thought that too, Ramon had this air about him, always striving for perfection. I admired that, He was what you said...'the perfect gentleman'" Rosie then giggled at the memory.
"He, however was not a butler, he was just very...well mannered and caring even, Dew would always joke and say he should've been a woman" Rosie recalled.
"He kind of reminds me of Al" Charlie said after a moment.
"I beg your pardon?" Alastor asked.
"Ah, actually if I'd say he resembled anyone it would be Dew, she never stopped smiling" Rosie said before sipping her tea.
"You see the next day.."
.
.
.
Rosie woke up feeling groggy and exhausted, it was hard to make herself open her eyes. When she did she realized that all last nights events were not a abnormal fantasy, but a reality.
As she started to finally rise from the bed, she saw a dress folded neatly at the end of her bed along with a letter.
Rosie slowly left the comfort of the bed and stepped down onto the cold floor. Her body aching, and her head spinning still.
Rosie picked up the letter and read 'good morning Rosie! Hope you feel okay! Ramon made you a whole new dress last night to resemble the one you were already wearing! We decided not to wake you, you seemed very tired. We also noticed you seemed feverish, in the drawer of the nightstand is a vial full of a remedy that'll give you a kick back in your step! Once you take that and are dressed come join us for breakfast! Sincerely, Dew'
Rosie blinked several times, they were in this room? And she didn't even wake up? That wasn't how she normally was, she was not a deep sleeper.
Rosie decided to follow the instructions of the note and open the drawer of the nightstand.
Indeed a small vial was in the drawer, it was full of a liquid that held many different colors.
Red, blue, yellow.
Rosie picked up the small vial and looked closer, it was glowing.
Rosie wasn't sure if she trusted this, however, if they wanted to harm her, wouldn't they just have done it last night?
Rosie decided to risk it, she shakily opened the vial and went for it, if she thought to much on it, she wouldn't ever do it.
Quickly Rosie felt her body almost jolt, it was like a sudden powerful reaction was happening inside her yet it wasn't unpleasant.
She felt more awake and energized, her head was no longer spinning, she was no longer shaking either.
Rosie eyed the now empty vial in her hand, she was now filled with pure curiosity.
Rosie gently put the vial back in the drawer of the nightstand before turning herself around to look at the dress on the end of her bed, it did look exactly like the dress she was in now. Except for it was fresh and clean, along with small changes to the collar and sleeves.
After getting dressed and feeling more like herself, Rosie then opened the door to leave..
When she almost ran slam into Dew who was standing right outside the door.
"Oh!" Rosie gasped out as she had to stop herself, Dew was looking up at her with bright eyes and her usual smile.
"Good morning! I'm so happy to see you are more lively today" Dew chirped, her wings twitching at her sides. Rosie now noticed the sprite just barely hit her chest in height, she had a tiny frame and again a black fuzzy halo of hair that was pointing in all directions around her head and face.
"May I ask why you are right at the door?" Rosie asked, looking at the almost shining being in front of her.
"Oh! I was making sure you didn't get lost, if you didn't notice this house...likes to change on its own, it's alive in a way" Dew explained.
Like that made any bit of sense.
Yet, after the couple of weeks Rosie had ever since her death, she believed anything was possible.
"Oh I see" Rosie mumbled.
"Yes, and we must hurry, Ramon is becoming anxious to see if his work is to your liking" Dew explained, holding her arm out to her just like Ramon had done last night.
Rosie couldn't help but laugh.
"What? Isn't this polite to a guest?" Dew asked.
"I never had a woman preform such a gesture to me" Rosie explained.
"Oh! I am not one to stick to one's gender like rules, I am my own person you see" Dew chirped, still not putting her arm down.
Rosie finally sighed and took her arm, seeming to please Dew greatly. Dew lead her toward the stair case and they descended to the first floor..
Wait.
There was not a first and second floor yesterday. It was just a simple house yesterday with many colored rooms. Now it seemed as if it was all marble and white, full of exotic furniture and statues around every corner.
The house indeed did change.
"Ah, Good morning Miss Rosie, rest well?" Asked Ramon as the two entered the living room, or what Rosie assumed was the living room.
Ramon was sitting in a chair with a book in his hand, now that the room was more well lit and Rosie could actually focus, she noticed he did indeed look like he was made out of pure ink, his skin seemed to almost move and sparkle like...ink in a ink kettle. His eyes were white as swan feathers along with the rest of his attire. His cuff links were the only thing that were a different color, which were violet.
Strange combination, Rosie thought to herself.
"Yes, thank you, and I'm under the impression you also made this" Rosie then gestured to the dress she was wearing.
"I did, think nothing of it dear" Ramon said gently.
"Oh, poppy cock! You have been anxious all morning to see if she liked it or not!" Dew said with a finger pointing at Ramon.
Ramon suddenly face palmed.
"You little annoying sprite you! I told you a million times over that I was not anxious!" Ramon fired back. However, Ramon was still hiding his face with his hand.
"You can't lie to me!" Dew teased.
"You two seem..close" Rosie finally said aloud after watching the display.
"We've been partners forever" Dew explained.
"...partners?" Rosie repeated raising her brow.
"Not like that!" Ramon suddenly spoke up, standing out his chair and knocking his book to the floor.
Dew and Rosie only stared at him.
Rosie then couldn't hold her laugh anymore, it was like a little boy concealing his crush from school mates.
"Aw Ramon you got her to laugh!" Dew congratulated, having not any clue to this at all.
"I do like the dress, thank you Ramon" Rosie said to help defuse the poor man's situation.
"T-thank you" Ramon said, picking up the book of the floor.
Rosie felt like that had two meanings.
"Okay! To business!" Dew said, grabbing Rosie's hand and practically dragging her to the couch.
Ramon left the room then, probably to get away from the sprite a moment after all that.
"So do you remember our discussion from last night?" Dew asked, sitting next to Rosie.
Rosie couldn't help but eye the sprites massive wings, they almost sparkled like a star lit sky. Small speckles of sliver within the black feathers, the feathers matched her fuzzy black hair.
"Yes, I recall you asking for my help" Rosie did indeed remember the strange conversation they had last night.
"Okay good! Well you see, like I said before, I noticed a pattern that all the demons that have gone missing were cannibals. I believe this is so when they create the amalgamations they already have the taste for flesh. I want to ask you to help me locate the one responsible" Dew explained.
"Why me?" Rosie asked.
"Because Rosie, you are special! I believe you have a gift to make people talk, you can make people reveal things even when they don't want to. You are also already someone with the desire for flesh, so you would fit in easily amongst the ones I need you to interrogate" Dew answered, only turning to look away from Rosie to see Ramon bringing in tea and small sandwiches from the other room. Ramon then took his place back in his chair.
"See, me and Dew have had quite the issue having demons talk to us, most of them are terrified of sprites like us" Ramon told Rosie.
"Why?" Rosie asked.
"Because we are not human, never were human, we are born from the earth. Things that most don't understand or trust" Ramon answered.
"It's unfortunate, Christianity has made many close their minds to us, and makes them terrified of our existence. Thinking we were automatically created for evil purposes" Dew continued.
"Not to mention angels despise our kind" Ramon mumbled.
"I believe angels just hate everyone" Dew sighed then, looking Rosie in the eye before continuing.
"So we need someone on the inside to do some digging for us, and don't think this is a one side deal, me and Ramon will keep you safe and you are completely free to stay here as well!" Dew said happily.
"Not to mention we are more than willing to pay you handsomely" Ramon added.
"That's...a lot to consider" Rosie said softly, as if she lost her voice for a moment.
"Also keep in mind...since you have the desire for your own kind, you are also a target" Dew said in a serious manner.
"Well then it seems I have not much choice" Rosie replied, making Dew beam.
"You'll help us then?!" Dew asked excitedly.
"Yes, I'll help" Rosie answered.
Did Rosie want to do this? No, no she did not. Why should she care for any sinner down here? However, it seemed redundant not to. It would not only make her afterlife more comfortable and she'd be safe. She could also start building a foundation here. Not to mention she now had a safe place to stay. It seemed silly and completely idiotic to turn the offer down.
"Excellent, we will send you to the first place-"
"One more additional thing I would like to add to our deal"
Dew and Ramon eyed her as she continued.
"I would like to learn how to make the potions like you made this morning for me" Rosie added.
Dew squealed with pure joy and her wings spread wide in her excitement, hitting Ramon in the face in the process.
"Wings Miss Dew!" Ramon hissed out.
"I would love to teach you!" Dew chirped out happily, her eyes practically sparkled.
.
.
.
"That's where you learned those potions?" Alastor asked in awe.
"Yes, apparently Dew was quite the genius in herbs and healing, along with poisons and spells" Rosie answered.
"I also learned the edges of Dews wings were as sharp as knives" Rosie added.
"So, Rosie, is this how your journey to being the leader of the cannibals began?" Charlie asked, Rosie chuckled at the title.
"Yes, it was indeed" Rosie answered, rising out of her seat.
"I hate to be a rude host but I have errands to run, maybe we can pick this up a different time" Rosie said making Alastor and Charlie pout.
"Come come, don't pout like sour children, I promise tomorrow I'll come to the hotel and continue my tales" Rosie promised.
The two left Rosie's in short order, having a million question run in their minds. Where was this story headed? Why had Rosie never said anything before?
They will find out soon enough..
