"What do you think those two are talking about?" Vaggie asked Charlie as they looked from a fat at two very chatter bug like demons.
Which were named Rosie and Alastor.
Do not let Alastor lie to you, he is quite the gossip king, him and Rosie would talk for hours at a time about anything and everything...and everyone.
Husk scoffed from his spot at the bar, turning his body halfway to look at Vaggie and Charlie with amusement coloring his expression.
"Knowing those two? Probably having three conversations at one damn time" Husk then chuckled to himself "those two sometimes carry conversations for days and you cant keep up either, trust me I fuckin tried" Husk then slinked himself out of his bar stool and stretched. His wings spreading wide from his body showing every feather and color that those wings held.
"I think imma try to listen in" Charlie then announced, making Vaggie raise a brow.
"You? Are going to ear drop?" Vaggie asked questioningly.
"No! I'm going to join!" Charlie huffed out.
"Good luck!" Husk said toward the two as he headed up the stair case to his room. He seemed in a weirdly good mood tonight, but Charlie wasn't going to ponder to much on it.
Vaggie leaned forward and gave her girlfriend a small kiss on the cheek.
"Well, go have fun, imma go find nifty" Vaggie then turned on her heel toward the same stair case that Husk had just climbed.
Charlie felt her cheeks heat up from the small peck, she couldn't thank the universe enough for Vaggie.
Charlie, now full with determination, headed toward the two gossiping demons.
"I had no idea! When were spirits no longer allowed down to our circles hm?" Charlie heard Alastor ask, which made Charlie pause a moment.
Spirits? What did he mean?
"When the eighth circle went down I'm afraid, when I first fell, I was treated to demons and Sprites. Spirits and whatnot, I have quite the stories about those days" Rosie said in her usual calm, monotone voice, like Alastor she had quite the smile on her face that would send shivers all over you and not the good kind. She had sharp teeth and empty eyes, the rest over her dressed in a widows type of gown and her usual updo that hands down Charlie could never achieve no matter what she tried. Also like Alastor, Rosie strived for perfection and manipulation.
It was like they were made for each other, in one way or another.
"Charlie! Decided to join in on our conversation?" Alastor asked, she didn't realize was just standing in place looking at Rosie weirdly.
"Oh-yes-I" Charlie tried desperately to make words come out but having two overlords stare you can make you quite nervous.
Even if you are the princess.
"Your highness, the pleasure is all mine for you to come speak" Rosie said, tilting her head a bit.
"No need to be so flattery Rosie, I'm still just Charlie" Charlie said as she made herself a spot next to Alastor on the couch, they were in the corner where long ago her and her first two hotel visitors sat when Alastor first arrived and changed the course of time in Charlie's life forever.
Rosie sat in the chair that was across from them, she sat perfectly straight with a posture that even Charlie was envious of. How she was a absolutely perfect at everything, Charlie had not a clue.
"We were just discussing my days back in the eighth ring" Rosie announced, as if Charlie hadn't known already.
"I haven't heard much on that, dad is pretty much a 'leave it in the past and move on' type of person" Charlie admitted.
"I don't blame your father, that was a high tragedy" Rosie said with a sigh.
"I lost many friends that day" Rosie then said lowly.
Alastor and Charlie gave each other a glance before giving there full attention back to Rosie.
"I guess you two would like a story?" Rosie then asked with a small smirk coming onto her face.
The two eagerly nodded.
"Well I'll tell you the story about the two first friends I made when I fell to hell.."
.
.
Rosie was lost, the place she had found herself now after her swift death was nothing more than a massive, deadly maze.
Each day was not easy, she had to hide and survive.
On a particular day, she was fighting over a demon corpse she found to devour. The other two demons who had come forward trying to claim it were vicious, a dog demon and a bird demon. The two were grinning with drool pooling from their maws.
"I think we will have two full bellies tonight!" The dog demon barked out, snapping his teeth at Rosie.
"And maybe some fun before the meal eh?" The bird said, eyeing Rosie up and down with arousal, making Rosie want to throw up.
Before Rosie could spit a word a new voice entered the air.
"Hey creeps!" Chirped a high pitch voice, making all them look up.
Flying in the air was a small figure, massive wings spread in the air that surrounded the figure. It was hard to see with the massive red sun glaring in your eyes.
The dog demon's ears pinned back as he yelled "damn sprite!" Before charging at the figure, as if he was going to catch her up in the air.
Suddenly, the figure was gone...and so was the dog demon.
He was completely yanked out the air!
The bird demon gasped in horror, looking at Rosie once more and then ran with all his energy out of there.
Rosie was left in silence, she wasn't sure she was safe to move.
"Hey! You!" Yelled the voice again, Rosie wasn't sure if she should stay and fight, or run like the bird demon.
"Calm yourself! I'm not going to harm you!" Yelled then voice again, now Rosie could hear the flapping of wings behind her, making her whirl around.
Stood before Rosie was a small girl with horns on the top of her head, fuzzy black hair surrounding the girls face and massive wings on each side of her body. Trailing all the way down to her feet, her eyes were bright violet and her skin was pale making almost all the rest of the colors of her colorful outfit pop. She wore a red skin tight garment that went from her shoulders and fit snuggly all the way down to her ankles.
With no shoes.
Rosie was to in awe to speak, as she gawked at her so called 'rescuer'.
"Hello? Earth to um...what is your name?" The little creature asked, tilting her head to the side. Eyeing Rosie just as much as Rosie was eyeing her.
"I-I'm Rosie" Rosie finally got out.
"Oh! Pretty name! I like roses, beautiful" the little one said happily.
"I'm Dew!" Dew introduced herself, smiling a big grin.
"...Dew?" Rosie repeated questioningly.
"Yep! I'm a sprite! A helpful guide if you will!" Dew chirped, her wings spreading a bit with her enthusiasm.
"Oh? Well you are quite the little thing aren't you?" Rosie said, the little sprite puffed her cheeks out and stood up as straight as she could.
"I just saved you! Who cares if I'm little?" Dew then pouted.
"Yes you did, and I thank you" Rosie didn't mean to offend her, she was grateful to her saving her from two idiot demons.
"Aw shucks...well Rosie! I see that your hungry! Since you were uh...munching on that dead person over there..." Dew said as she pointed toward the corpse behind Rosie.
"Me and Ramon have plenty of food at home! So let's go!" Dew then grabbed Rosie and descended into the air.
Giving Rosie a heart attack, might she add.
As they flew, Rosie couldn't help but grip Dew for the fear of being dropped to her second death. However, it didn't seem to bother Dew at all, she giggled and just kept flying as Rosie desperately gripped onto her small frame.
Soon, but not soon enough, they landed in front of a large house, Rosie fell ungratefully to the ground when Dew let go of her.
"Oops!" Dew said before helping Rosie to her feet and dusting her off.
"Ramon will get you some nicer clothes, he loves to sow" Dew said with that same smile on her face.
Rosie watched as the sprite quite literally skipped toward the door.
Rosie reluctantly followed, feeling as she had not much choice in the matter.
The little sprite then knocked three times on the door, the door was dark, engraved with strange swirls and runes on the door.
Rosie then jumped when the door swung open, a tall figure stood at the door, slender and dark with bright white eyes. The figure was almost as dark as a shadow other than his bright eyes, and pure white suit he wore on his person.
"Oh? Bringing a guest Miss Dew?" Asked the figure, his voice was deep and alluring, he towered over the two making Rosie blink slowly, just making sure she wasn't dreaming.
"Yes! This is Rosie! I rescued her from some mean folks and thought she needed a nice dinner" Dew said as if this person couldn't just pick her up and rip her apart.
"Oh! My heavens I didn't even think of that! Come, come!" The figure said urgently, opening the way into the home.
.
.
"So...you were rescued by a sprite? What is a sprite?" Charlie asked, she was in to deep with this story, cause honestly? She knew almost nothing about Rosie's past.
"Oh, from what they explained later to me that same evening, sprites roam all areas, from hell to heaven, purgatory, even the living world. Some sprites are to protect nature, guide the dead or the lost, protect the ones who have no one to defend, things to that stature" Rosie explained. "And some are to make sure that everything stays in order, and that none of the divines go to out of line" Rosie continued.
"And these two were..?" Alastor asked.
"These two were to make sure that the demons in that ring didn't loose their humanity...but I'm getting to that it's kind of keen to the story"
Charlie and Alastor leaned in, ready for Rosie to continue her story.
.
.
.
Rosie was given a three course meal along with desert. She had not eaten like this since the moment she fell to this place. Dew only watched as Rosie ate till she was almost sick.
"Do you feel better?" Dew asked, making Rosie look up at her, Rosie saw that the girls horns had also swirls in them, as if the swirls were dancing against the bone. And her face was full of specks, like freckles except they seem to shine like little diamonds in the light of the candles that decorated the middle of the long table.
"Yes I do...thank you...but may I ask...why?" Rosie was having a hard time understanding the sprites reason behind her kindness, wasn't this hell? Enteral torment? The fire burning the sinners and the unforgivable?
"Oh! Goodness I haven't explained anything have I?" Dew said, a small blush spreading over her cheeks due to her embarrassment.
"You tend to forget details Miss Dew, poor Miss Rosie must be quite lost, do not be alarmed Miss Rosie. She is quite the 'gloss over the details' type of sprite" Ramon said, taking Rosie's plate from in front of her and disappearing deeper into the house.
Which seemed to be always changing, the walls and rooms seemed to make no logical sense, each room different than the last.
"See I am a death sprite, I am what you humans call a 'reaper', I'm in charge of taking souls to their rightful final plains, depending on religious beliefs" Dew explained. "Ramon is my partner in this endeavor, quite the gentleman I do say" Dew said that second part louder, as if to make sure Ramon heard her.
"Why are you two in hell?" Rosie asked.
"Cause right now Rosie we have a big problem" Dew said for the first time with a serious look on her face.
"Demons are going missing, and I don't mean in a normal manner, they are just being snatched up in the night, and now I'm finding them in a...rather worse predicament" Dew explained.
"Worse?" Rosie repeated.
"They are being melted and fused together alive, becoming indestructible amalgamations" Dew continued.
"Which if you didn't know, is kind of illegal, I know, hell? Illegal? What could be illegal? Well making monsters like this using living souls goes against the rules of souls all together, souls are not meant to be fused" Dew then gave Rosie a sad smile.
"I tried to find to culprits and Luci is not being quite helpful in the matter" Dew said before sighing.
"Luci? As in Lucifer?" Rosie asked.
"Yes! You are quite the smart one Rosie" Dew chirped.
"I don't understand why soul...fusing? Is illegal" Rosie said with a small drawl she wasn't sure what she was being told.
"Oh! Gosh, yes, I forget not many have to power to make soul contracts so why even know the rules to begin with? Well, see, souls are the combination of your entire existence and should not be taken lightly. Your soul is also something you can bargain as I am sure you are aware. Souls are powerful things, some come with a little extra...spark if you will, however fusing souls can cause many issues and make a body that they host indestructible...which in turn is why it's illegal to do so. For anyone" Dew said with a sudden hiss to her tone.
"We don't take this lightly therefore we are here to protect souls and punish the ones responsible before this gets out of hand" Dew then leaned back in her chair and looked toward the door, where Ramon was standing.
"Do tell me if I'm being rude but...why would you care what happens to souls down here?" Rosie asked, making Dew sigh.
"Cause as a death sprite I'm responsible for all souls, no matter if they are good or bad" Dew said simply.
"And Rosie...I need your help"
.
.
.
"What? I didn't even know souls could do such a thing!" Alastor gasped out.
"Yes apparently they can" Rosie said with her head in her hand.
"And of course my dad did not care" Charlie said with a sigh.
"I unfortunately have to take my leave now but I'll be quite happy to continue this story over tea. Would you two like to come tomorrow for tea?" Rosie asked, Charlie beamed.
"Yes!" Charlie said enthusiastically.
"Of course" Alastor said at the same time Charlie replied.
"Then tomorrow it is" Rosie smiled.
