Love is a very cruel things I've decided. Ryan is 'in love' with Jenny. Jenny is 'in love' with Ryan. Jamie 'loved' Liam. In the end I sit here actually in love and getting no where.
"Hey Ryan, want to play cards?" I ask, and he glances up from Jenny a moment long enough to give me his award winning smile.
"Sure dude, that may make the day go faster!" He exclaims and I feel all my tense muscles release as his hand leaves Jenny's precious flesh to shuffle the deck. Jenny smiles at me and I grin back. She still hasn't told Ryan about the incident that occurred last week and I bet he never will. I don't mind though, now we have a secret and it is her's and mine only. One day may she can be mine too...
"What are we playing?" Ryan asks. I turn back to him, my plans have been forming for a while and it's hard to hold back the sinister grin that begs to claim my face when I see his.
"Up to you." I shrug like we're best friends.
Jenny chuckles, "That's my boys!" She jokes as she stands ruffling my hair and kissing Ryan's cheek before disappearing off toward the bathroom.
I can feel my heart sinking as I register this: she gave Ryan a kiss and pet me like a dog. Ryan watches her leave and I toss him a silent glare that quickly disappears when he looks back.
"So, Ryan I was wondering if you'd like to skip therapy and chill in my room tonight for a bit?" I propose in my best 'bro' voice.
Ryan smiles, "Heck yeah!" He says.
I grin back, "Cool." I say as he deals out the cards for Egyptian rat screw. This is going to be fun.
"So what do you want to do?" Ryan asks as he circles mine and Ricky's room.
"Up to you." I shrug and sit on my bed.
"Hey I actually wanted to talk to you about something." He says sitting next to me. My inner voice chuckles in sinister anticipation.
"Sure what's up?" I ask as I lay back on my pillow, my hand slipping beneath is and finding the cold steel.
"It's Jenny. You know I love her," gag, "but, I am actually not supposed to be in the hospital anymore. I was released two days ago but asked to stay..." He starts.
I look at him in shock as my hand grips the handle and I sit up starting to edge it into the open.
"Yeah," Ryan sighs, "I love her too much to leave her here alone but... I can't stand this place!" He gets up and throws his hands in the air. He's looking over Ricky's family on the wall and I realize this is the perfect time. I stand raising the knife slowly.
"I don't know man, what would you do?" He asks in desperation.
I prepare to bring the sharp point down, "I would personally-"
"The new arrival is here, please come and greet her everyone." The voice in the box above speaks. Ryan turns and I quickly toss the knife to the ground, slicing my finger in the process as it clatters. We both stare at it.
Ryan is pale as he registers the situation, then without a blink he darts from the room.
I sprint after him, "Ryan wait!" I call out. Spoiled! My entire plan is spoiled!
Ryan sprints into the main room where I quickly loose sight of him in the crowd of kids all standing around the door. I think that if I get in the middle I'll be able to find him so I shove my way through the other kids like some pro football player. I break out in the middle and run right into the new patient. Her small frail frame stumbles back a bit and she looks at me in shock.
"Jamie?" I exclaim with wide eyes.
She screams.
