AFTER THE two teams warmed up and the cheerleaders did their chants, they all stood in a line now as a man stood at the microphone in the middle and everyone settled down. "Everyone, now please rise for our national anthem." He said and everyone stood up just as told while Val crossed her arms and glanced around the gymnasium, spotting Steve.
She smiled and waved as Steve immediately waved back, smiling wider. "Singing for us tonight, we have a very special guest. All the way from Nashville, our very own Tammy Thompson!" The man announced and everyone clapped as Val realized why that name sounded so familiar, glancing over towards where Steve was standing, near the band kids. Sure enough, the two that look at one another glance her way as well, both also shocked.
Long story short, the three were smoking some weed at the Harrington home, watching a movie they quickly got bored of and had to share one secret each about themselves, Steve's was about the fact he also... sort of... liked guys which both Robin and Val didn't bat an eye at because of the way he'd blush furiously while watching Star Wars with them. (Han Solo is very hot.) And Valerie's was about Riley.
At first, Robin just raised her brows and was surprised Val was with another girl before and explained she's only ever liked another girl before, Tammy Thompson. Steve and Val immediately started teasing her by singing songs Tammy Thompson would sing and Steve said she sounded like a muppet.
Robin just felt embarrassed for ever sharing the information in the first place as Val just pulled her into her side. "Well, at least I wasn't blind to who was right in front of me all along." She had kissed her cheek and Steve tossed a Cheeto at them. "Go, Tanmy!" Someone cheered as the girl waved to the big crowds, smiling widely so Valerie, smiling widely, clapped hard and even whooped for the blonde girl.
She started singing and Valerie cringed but followed what everyone was doing, her hand over her shoulder. "Told you both. Muppet." Steve whispered towards Robin who had glanced over at him. "Okay, she does sound like a Muppet." Robin said quietly back, causing Vickie beside her to chuckle.
"Oh my God, totally." She agreed making the taller look at her right away. "She sounds like Kermit." She says. "I was thinking it was more like Miss Piggy." Robin whispers and Vickie snorts, looking down. "I use to think she sounded good, 'cause I had this massive cru--" "sorry?" Vickie looks at her, confused. "Um... we--we took a--a massively hard class together. We were... we were in Mrs. Click's class together." Robin quickly explained and it got weirdly quiet, as she glanced over to where Val was standing, where Riley was leaning to her.
She's whispering and Val is smiling widely, shaking her head softly in disbelief. Robin just stared at them, forgetting all about what she'd just been talking about with Vickie. Once the song was over, Val sighed in relief, "I thought it'd never end." She whispers and Riley giggled. "Right? Jesus fucking Christ." She says.
The game starts not long after, the cheerleaders cheering on the basketball team. Valerie didn't really pay attention but did as she always did, clapping her pom-poms together and chanting with them, smiling faintly when Jason looked towards Chrissy, pointing at her after he had just shot a score, but when she looks at Chrissy, she just sighed softly.
The game escalated when one of the Tigers got injured and the coach looked to Lucas. "Sinclair, you're in." He said and Lucas looks at him. "Huh?" He says. "You're in. Son, let's go!" He said and Valerie smiled widely. "Go Lucas!" She said, shaking her pom-poms and the boy smiled her way as the buzzer buzzed.
The Tigers were doing pretty well, leading on the scoreboard as the crowd erupted in cheers with each basket shot. But then Jason called for a time-out, making the refree blow his whistle. As the band played some tunes and the cheer squad did a chant, Val watched the huddle of basketball players with their coach. She's happy Lucas found something he wanted to do, but she worries sometimes he's only pretending to be someone he's not, especially missing Hellfire club tonight for this.
She hopes he finds himself eventually, sighing as the game then resumes, Jason running to the opposing team's basket, shooting his shot but missing so Lucas jumped up, grabbing the ball, with just two seconds left and one score to beat the other team, Lucas jumped up and tossed the ball to the basket as Valerie's eyes widen. The ball falls right into the rim, confirming Lucas' winning score.
"Holy shit! Holy shit!" Valerie jumped up and down, shaking Riley's arm. "Whoo!" She cheered excitedly, running with the other cheerleaders towards the players surrounding Lucas. "Lucas! That was epic!" She said, shaking his shoulder gently before the team lifted him up and they continued cheering.
After the gym, as everyone was leaving, Val smiled at how happy looked Lucas with Jason and the others ahead of her and Chrissy. "Bye babe. I'll see you at Benny's." Jason waved at his girlfriend who smiled and blew him a kiss and Val noticed Lucas stop in his tracks so she followed his gaze to see him watching the Hellfire club walking out of the main entrance, with his sister, minus Eddie because he most likely left early to head to his place before Val and Chrissy do. "Hey!" She pats his arm.
"You did great and I'm sure they'll regret missing it..." She reassures him and he just looks at her, nodding. "Lucas, you coming?" Patrick shouted out for him and Lucas nodded right away. "Bye Val." The Sinclair says and the Smith sends him a small smile before turning to Chrissy. "Let's head to Munson's." She says quietly and the Cunningham softly nods.
On the car ride to the trailer park, Chrissy kept glancing over at Val who's nervously adjusting her hair every five minutes or checking her mirrors, sighing. "So, what's going on between you and that band kid? Is she your girlfriend or something?" Chrissy softly chuckles and Val glanced over. "Why? Jealous, Chris? How scandalous. You know you're taken..." She shook her head in fake disapproval as Chrissy rolled her eyes, smiling softly.
"I just... I don't know, I never noticed you two... hang out." She shrugs and Val shrugs as well. "Robin, she, uh, she worked with Steve last summer at the mall that burned down and, uh, I--I don't know, I like hanging out with Steve so I figured I'd apply at Family Video with them, I work with them nearly everyday because Steve begged Keith to always schedule the three of us together." She explained.
"That's all actually kinda sweet..." Chrissy's staring at her with those cute blue eyes and a soft smile on her face. "Yeah... I don't think we can get rid of Steve." She mumbled and Chrissy giggled, glancing away. "That's still sweet though... is he a good friend?" She asked curiously. "Yeah, yeah. He use to be a total jerk, like the majority of my life but, uh, I don't know, I guess some sense got smacked into him." She chuckled and Chrissy nods, staring at Val once again with a small smile.
"Uh, I'm gonna park my car here. This spot should be fine, right?" Val asked, pulling into the spot by Max's trailer home and Chrissy nods, both girls hopping out the car. What Valerie hadn't known was Max is watching her and Chrissy, feeding a dog. The girl was about to step up and call out to her but refrained from doing so when the two cheerleaders walk up to the trailer across from her own.
"Okay, I--I guess I just knock..." Val says a little awkwardly before knocking on the door. Meanwhile, Robin had just gotten home and was sitting outside, waiting for her girlfriend to pick her up. 20 minutes. Tops.
The door opened, Eddie smiling at them through the screen door which he then flung open, nearly knocking over Val in the process. "Hey, girls. Come on in, welcome to my, uh, castle." He says and Val raised her brows, following Chrissy into the trailer. "Cute."
