Laying in bed with Steve the next morning I was awakened by a knock on his door "hey man you seen Hope I can't find her and we need to leave soon for the trial." Steve looked down at me as Sam asked him through the door, I shook my head I knew it would hurt him the fact I spent the night with Steve. "Em nope not since yesterday after our talk," he smiled at me as he pulled me up for a kiss. "Alright if you see her before me tell her we are leaving in 30 minutes." Steve pulled away "30 minutes ok I will tell her if I see her first." I heard Sam's footsteps walk away from the door and sighed in relief before getting up "where are you going?" He pulled me back into bed causing me squeal as he attacked me with kisses "I need to get clothes on I have court remember?" He grumbled "can't you just stay with me in bed today I just got you back." I kissed him "I can't we will be together for a while while Sam and Bucky's getting Karli." I smile he held the side of my face kissed me gently but full of love. "Ok see you soon ma jolie fille" we got off the bed as I bent down to pick my clothes off the floor he smacked my backside.

"Captain America, has no one ever told you not to hit a woman?" He just smirked and opened the door "Oh Hope?" I turn to face him he puts his hands on my back "one more kiss?" I nod and he leans down and kisses me "I guess you found her then." I pull away from the kiss and could see Sam's heart break into pieces. "Eh yeah she's just getting ready look Sam..." Sam puts his hand up "just save it Steve, Hope I will see you downstairs." He walked away, I don't know why but I hated Sam using my name "are you ok?" I simply nod and hold back tears before going to my own room and get ready. I leave my room to head downstairs when someone grabs my arm "I need to leave Steve." I pulled my arm away "It's not Steve," I look up and see Sam eyes filled with tears, "just tell me, did I mean anything to you, where you lying when you said you loved me." His words hurt me like a knife "yes Sam I love you, you mean so much to me but..." I trail off, trying not to cry "but what!" He slammed the wall behind me with his fists causing me to jump "but I want to try make my marriage work he is my husband." I push away from Sam and run downstairs where Bucky's sitting tears in my eyes. "You seen Sam we need to leave." I shook my head "I'm going to the car" I turned and walked out.

Standing at the car Sam and Bucky come out laughing and joking as if nothing happened. " you two ready to send this scum down?" Bucky smiled "have you two idiots made up yet?" Pointing between me and Sam, I looked down not knowing what to say until Sam came up and hugged me "of course" I put on a fake smile until Bucky turned his back then pushed him off me before getting in the car. The car ride there we went over the statements and questions we might be asked, we pull upside and so many military and tabloids there, I start panicking "I...I...I c..c..can't br...breath." I was shaking "hey Hope look at me," I turn to Sam "your going to be ok they can't punish your past you have been pardoned, they can bring it up but they can't use it against you ok?" I nod Bucky comes and opens the door when it's swarmed with reporters "there he is the the winter solider, how can they believe a former killer over the man who took over captain America when he retired?" Another shouted "Where's the other murder?" Someone else yelled "Is she in there?" I froze and stare terrified at Sam, he is getting out the car and I hear him say "look back away from the car who is this other murder the only person in the car is my wife who has come to support us and you lot have all terrified." My heart fluttered when he called me his wife, they still surrounded the car asking Bucky questions about our past as I broke down crying.

"THEY SAID MOVE AWAY FROM THE CAR LET THE POOR WOMAN OUT!" They all turned round and Rhodes walked towards the car "Sam help get her out the car." Nodding he leaned in and helped me out my eyes red from crying, he pulled me in for a hug "does this look like a murder to you this is a poor defenceless woman now back off and let them in." They all stepped aside, we walk into the court room and I freeze as I see Sharon talking to John. The trail starts we sit in the witness stand Sam gives evidence without a hitch then Bucky goes on the stand and they bring up the winter soldier and what he did and how can he be taken serious as a witness a killer like him. "I can't do this Sam, do I have to if they bring up his past then mine, I...I can't relive that time." He pulls me in hugging me "ssshh Hope you will be safe me and Bucky's here for you." His kind smile gave me confidence to sit in the stand.

"Hope Maria Rogers," everyone turned to look at me and started whispering, I look down at the floor and make my way to the stand. "It's Hope Maria Barnes your honour." They apologise the prosecutor's questions went well however the defendant started "Hope what a name for the previously red room assassin and Hydra solider, the murderous winter sparrow don't you think?" I looked at him pain in my eyes "I was controlled I was not responsible for my actions," I felt sick to my stomach. "Weren't you also dating and married to the notorious Barron Helmut Zemo?" I could hear the whispers "yes but he was nice to me, well until I found out he was controlling me as well, what are these questions got to do with the scum in question?" I look at Bucky who had a shocked look on his face but also proud his baby sister stood up for herself. "It just shows that you are easily controlled, and lie easily didn't you pretend to be married to Sam Wilson just outside?" I look at Sam and glare "I was easily controlled yes but my code was broken in Wakanda and I didn't he said that I was to busy panicking since I knew this was going to come up today." I glance over to Sharon who's sitting on John's side and the statement she gave was met with mixed reviews.

"So miss Carter gave a interesting statement, about working for the you and the pawnbroker and ensuring John didn't find Karli, also you are the reason Lamar Hoskins died isn't that true. You hated the fact that your husband moved on with Sharon and is currently dating her." I looked up shocked at what I just heard "I was not there when Lamar died I was shot at and injured, my so called husband can move on I didn't even know we were married until the day I met the avengers so I don't care who he's dating." The defendant finished and I left the court as soon as I got off the stand not even caring about the verdict I went outside and was sick he lied to me. "Let's get back we don't need to wait for the verdict," Bucky rubbed my back I nodded and we all got into the car and drove home in silence none knowing what to say. As soon as we got home I got out the car "hey beautiful" Steve came up to me and tried to put his hands around me. I pushed him back and burst into tears and slapped him hard across the face before going to my room locking the door behind me and sliding down it crying.
