I stood there frozen... he want even human... what was he? Why did he save me? Is he the reason people have been going missing? I took a step back, accidentally kicking a rock 'shit'. The creature turned around quickly, spear in hand and an aggressive look on his face. I stood in fear but after he had seen me he lowered his weapon, still holding onto it but showing he wasn't a threat. "What are you doing here?" He asked me. I stood in silence, I couldn't speak. "Ugh, this is great. You've found me. Whoo! Aren't you going to tell the town I'm here? Or are you just going to stand there staring at me?" In all honesty I wasn't paying attention to his words, I was to busy admiring his gorgeous features and the merman tail which ge had, it was a gorgeous deep purple that seemed to shimmer in the light. "Hello? Are you even listening?" He waved a hand infront of my face. "Right sorry, its just- I've never- um, w-what, what are you?" He sighed slightly. "I'm a siren." He said blankly. "Oh." I said but then lit up after my brain processed what he'd just said. "Wait really?!"
"No I just wear this tail for fun" He said sarcastically. I kneeled down next to him, noticing gills on his neck. I had always been a fan of mythology, even when I was little, sirens were always my favourite to learn about. "This is so cool!" I said bouncing slightly in my kneeling position. The siren looked at me confused. "Cool?" I nodded kind of aggressively "sirens are SO cool" i said giggling slightly. "What's it like living in the sea? How can you breathe right now since you're on land? How are your eyes so pretty? How do you wash your hair without shampoo? Can you talk to sea creatures?" I asked each question so fast he couldn't even speak. "What's with all the questions?" He asked as I realised I had started leaning in closer when asking him. "S-sorry" I said backing away a bit, "I've just never met anyone like you! It's so cool." He chuckled "you really like that word, huh?" I blushed in embarrassment, looking away slightly just for him to grab my chin and gently turn my head to face him again. "No need to be embarrassed. What's your name?"
"Fern, w-what's yours?"
"Kaiholo" fuck, even his name is pretty. "So, Fern what was one of those questions again? Oh yes!-" He smirked slightly at me "it was 'how are your eyes so pretty?' " weeks shit. A blush grew over my cheeks once more, as I buried my face in my hands. "Oh my goddd... I actually said that.." He laughed slightly "don't worry, yours are too" He said with such confidence but little did he know it just made it worse, my face even brighter. "Come on now Fern, stop hiding that gorgeous face frome me." He said while taking one of my hands if my face and into his own. "You're the first person I've ever talked to, it's funny right? I've never trusted humans. Most of them are awful. Like that dickhead that bumped into you on the beach. I'd seen him a few times before, he was cruel to everyone. But I took care of him" Kaiholo smirked, a smirk I didn't like. "What do you mean by that?" I asked, slightly scared by the tone of his voice, he obviously noticed and just looked away slightly. "Kaiholo... what do you mean?" Now I was truly scared, he did something didn't he? Something bad. "What did you do to him? Tell me you didn't hurt him!" He looked slightly angry "HE hurt YOU Fern! He was an awful person!" I shook my head, and stood up, letting go of his hand and rushing out through the tunnel. 'I need to get out of here!' I thought as I rushed, not caring about the sharp rocks and glass shards.
When I was finally back onto the sand of the beach I tried to calm myself down slightly, glancing at my bleeding legs before turning around to look into the ocean, seeing Kaiholo watching me and noticing my legs which were now bleeding, he looked worried but I knew I couldn't stay there. He could have killed that guy for all I know.
I tried to ignore the little voice in the back of my head, telling me to go back, to apologise, 'ge saved your life, do you really think he would hurt you now? If he wanted you dead he would've left you to drown' I shook the thought from my head as I stepped into my house, and started searching for my first aid kit to clean and tend to the cuts on my legs.
After a few hours of contradicting thoughts I had to go pick Jacob up. When I got there he was waiting for me at the gates with his teacher. "I'm so sorry I'm late! I got held up in traffic on my way here." She just smiled at me "it's ok sir, i know you live on the other side of town, it can be hard to be on time." With that me and Jacob said goodbye and headed home. When we were in the car Jacob noticed my legs. "Papa, what happened to your legs?" I sighed slightly, "It's fine Jacob, papa just went thorough a rocky tunnel and got a little scratched up" he nodded and immediately got distracted by birds flying ahead of the car.
