"YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE THEM, I PROMISE," exclaimed Alexander as he fumbled a key through his front door.
A few days later into the week, Alexander decided that it would be nice to introduce his girlfriend to his father and sister, especially since his dad was supposed to be off from work for the day. Over the past few weeks or so, the Korean boy has been informing his father about Inez, raving all sorts of nice things about her. Over those past few weeks, Jason has grilled his son dozens of questions about his girlfriend to make sure she wasn't a bad influence or whatever, but generally, he was looking forward to meeting her.
Inez was too, but a bit jittery on the inside. She gestured to her flowy, yellow sundress. "Do I look good enough?"
"You look just fine," the Korean boy assured the girl as he pushed the unlocked door open. He allowed her to walk inside first before he walked in. "Make sure you take your shoes off. My dad will go crazy if he sees you with shoes on in the house."
"My mom does too," the girl laughed as she slipped off her all-white Nike Air Forces, placing them beside the dozens of shoes that were neatly lined up against the wall. "But I'm nervous. What if your dad doesn't like me?"
"My dad's a little strict, but I'm sure he'll end up liking you," Alexander assured her as he planted a kiss on the girl's cheek, her softness grazing across his lips. "My dad and sister should be in the kitchen, let's go."
Inez nodded as she followed her boyfriend from the house's foyer to the kitchen, where his father could be seen cooking up a storm, while Alexander's sister was playing with her iPad at the kitchen table. She chuckled nervously as her boyfriend cleared his throat, already shaking from the endless possibilities of her father's reactions. "Dad, Constance, this is my girlfriend, Inez."
She waved her hand in the air with a nervous smile. Jason backed away from the stove with a smile to welcome the girl as Constance trailed behind him. He extended his hand to shake hers. "Hello, my son has told me a lot of great things about you."
"That's so sweet of him, Mr. Choi," Inez flashed a smile at him.
"Yes, it is. Hopefully, you're just as great as my son described," Jason nodded his head as he let go of the girl's hand before he gestured to the two pots sitting on the stove meters behind him. "Can I get you anything to eat or drink? I just finished cooking some food."
"I'll have some, thank you," the girl smiled as she bent down slightly to see her boyfriend's grade school-aged sister. "You must be Constance. It's really nice to meet you. I'm Inez."
"Hi, Inez," the little girl said with a toothy grin. "You're very pretty."
"Thank you," Inez extended her hands to hug the little girl. "You're gorgeous."
Constance cheered as she let go of the hug before she turned to her brother. "I really like your girlfriend, Alexander. Can she come over more often? Maybe we can watch TV together."
"Only if she wants to," the Korean boy chuckled lightly.
After what seemed like hours and hours of his little sister teasing him about having a girlfriend prior to that day, it was a relief that she was finally saying something that wasn't as annoying. What she said was meaningful, frankly. Alexander's sister liked his girlfriend, so that meant that his father was the only one left to convince.
Being that his father was all about education and well-being, Alexander completely expected for him to grill Inez questions about school, such as her GPA and her plans after high school. All Alexander could hope, however, was that his father wouldn't get too personal.
