I pulled into the parking spot and shifted the car into park. We stepped out of the car and walked around to the back of our car. I opened the trunk and grabbed my conceal carry holster. I clipped the holster onto the back of my waistband. I grabbed my 1911 and put it in the holster. I pulled the back of my jacket down over the holster. I grabbed my suitcase out and Jill grabbed hers. Jill put her Glock 19 in her conceal carry holster, also clipped onto her waistband. I shut the trunk and locked the car. We walked towards the large building. A small hotel sat in front of us.
We were currently staying at a small hotel on the outskirts of Des Moine, Iowa. After we left Colorado, I pulled my savings out of my bank account. Jill did the same. We bought the conceal carry holsters along with the luggage and some extra clothes with our savings. I used a pay phone to tell my parents what happened. They offered to send me some money to help with the expenses of getting back on my feet. I declined the offer. Luckily, I had kept my savings pretty high so I should be good for a few weeks. We walked into the lobby of the hotel. It was pretty nice. There was a lobby with places to sit to our right. To our left, there was the front desk with an employee standing behind it. Next to the desk, there was a vending machine. The floor was lined with tile. The walls were painted a beige color. I approached the front desk.
"Hello, how can I help you?" the woman asked with a warm smile.
"Can we get a room with two beds for the day?" I asked her.
"Sure, thing. That will be a total of $150 for the day." I nodded to her and handed her the cash. She handed me a keycard.
"You will be in room 315. The elevator is just down the hall," she said.
"Thank you," I responded. Jill and I walked over to the elevator and entered it. We pressed the button to the third floor. We stood in silence as the elevator ascended. The door slid open with a ding. We exited the elevator and walked down the hall to our room. I used the keycard to unlock the door. I pushed it open and held it open for Jill as she walked in. I walked in and shut the door behind me. The room was simple. There was a small window on the opposite of the room that overlooked the parking lot. There were two beds. In front of the bed was a large dresser. The dresser had a single TV situated on it. To the left of the door to the room was the bathroom. The bathroom was decently sized. I set my suitcase down next to Jill's by the door. I took off my boots and set them down next to my suitcase.
"Jill, you go ahead and take a shower first. I'll hop in after you," I said to her. She nodded to me. She grabbed some clothes out of her suitcase and walked into the bathroom. I heard the bathroom door shut and lock behind her. Then I heard the sound of the shower turning on. I lay down on my bed. I turned on the TV using the remote on the nightstand next to the bed. It showed a news broadcast about Raccoon City's destruction. Apparently, the US Government was shifting the blame entirely on the Umbrella Corporation. There were going to be a series of hearings to officially determine the consequences that Umbrella would face.
Half an hour later, I heard the faint sound of the water in the shower shutting off. I got to my feet and grabbed a pair of flannel pants and a soft gray t-shirt out of my suitcase. I heard the sound of the door unlocking as Jill stepped out. The grease in her hair from the blood and sweat over the last few days had been completely washed out. She had washed off all of the dirt and grime on her skin. Her beauty was amplified by her now clean appearance. She wore a pair of black sweatpants and a gray tank top. She was drying her hair with a towel when I passed her on my way to the bathroom. I walked into the bathroom. I shut and locked the door behind me. I turned on the shower. I undressed and hopped into the shower. The feeling of the hot water running down my back brought me a sense of relaxation that I had been devoid of for a few days. I released a deep sigh as I relaxed. I scrubbed the dirt and dried blood off of my skin. My bandages were water resistant so I didn't have too much to worry about. I washed the grease out of my hair. I stayed in the shower for twenty minutes as I was finally relaxed. I turned off the water and used the towel on the rack to quickly dry myself off. I put on a fresh pair of underwear, my flannel pants, and the gray t-shirt. I dried off my hair and hung the towel up to dry. I unlocked the bathroom door and pulled it open.
