The car slowed to a stop in front of the apartment building. It was a tall building with nine floors. Captain Wesker shifted the car into park and turned to look at me.
"Alright, Y/N. We're here," he said to me. He opened his door and stepped out of the car. I did the same. I stepped out onto the sidewalk. Wesker walked around the car and walked towards the entrance of the apartment building. He was wearing a black turtleneck with black cargo pants and black shoes, along with his usual sunglasses. I was wearing a pair of blue jeans and a leather jacket with a black shirt. I was also wearing a pair of black boots. Wesker was showing me the ropes of my new position. After all, I had just joined the STARS team and it was a unit unlike any I had served in before. I had just gotten my badge yesterday. I had met my new partner the day before. There was something alluring about her that I couldn't quite place. I was really looking forward to spending more time getting to know her. I turned my attention to the task at hand.
"Captain, why are we here again?" I asked him as I made sure to stay close.
"There's a murder victim in this apartment complex that is of great interest to us," he replied. We walked through the lobby of the apartment building. There was a reception desk to our left and an assortment of furniture to our right. The floor was made up of carpet with an intricate design on it. We stepped through the lobby and into the elevator. Wesker pressed the button to go to the third floor. I felt myself get moved slightly as the elevator started rising.
"Isn't a murder case a bit below our pay grade?"I asked.
"Not this one," he replied.
"What does that mean?" He didn't answer that question. I was about to ask again when the elevator dinged, showing we had reached the third floor. There was an apartment to the right that had its door barred off with a uniform officer standing in front of it. I noticed that the elevator was at the end of the hall. I looked to the left and saw a large window that showed the parking lot below. Wesker started walking down the hall. I followed closely and we soon reached the door that had been cordoned off.
"Captain Wesker, Detective Sullivan is waiting for you inside. Your friend will have to wait out here," the uniform said.
"He's with me," Wesker said. I showed him my STARS badge in response.
"Alright, you guys can come on through," he said as he stepped to the side. We stepped under the crime scene tape and into the apartment. The apartment was well furnished and felt lived in. It had hardwood floors with white walls and a white ceiling. A large TV sat across from a couch on the other side of the apartment. There was a kitchen to the right and a bedroom to the left. It was definitely one of the nicer apartments in the city, well far nicer than mine anyway. There was a body lying in the middle of the apartment. A large puddle of blood stained the carpet underneath the man. The man was wearing black sweatpants with a white tank top. He had tattoo sleeves on both arms. The man was bald and had a large hole in his forehead. He had multiple bloody gunshot wounds in his torso. The man had an expensive watch on and held a Glock 17 in his right hand. The pistol had an ornately engraved slide and grip. The slide seemed to be made of pure gold. There were many forensics guys in the apartment, snapping pictures of the body from multiple angles. There were small yellow markings that the forensic team used to mark evidence. The window next to the body was open, the curtains in front of it gently swaying in the mind. Wesker pulled a pair of latex gloves out of his pocket, put them on, and walked over to the body I followed him. There was a man in a suit kneeling down next to the body. He was well shaven and had a neat comb over hairstyle. He saw Wesker walking towards him. He stood up and turned his attention to him.
