I was standing on the roof of the police station, drinking a mug of coffee. Luckily, we hadn't run out until the day we were supposed to evacuate. I felt the cool morning air of the Mediterranean Sea glide over my skin as I took a deep breath. The cold air felt refreshing as it filled my lungs.

Three weeks had passed. Three weeks in Hell. After Jill's team was able to analyze the drone routes. They realized we would only have a few openings in which we could evacuate the civilians. Only a few openings in which we would be blind to the drones. We had spent these last few weeks rescuing civilians and bringing them to the police station. Our count of civilians had reached 5,000. Moving them through the maintenance tunnels would be a challenge. That's why we had spent weeks training them. Around 500 offered to carry firearms to help guard the convoy. Hector, Vladimir, and I would take the lead of the convoy as we led them through the tunnels. The police chief and other officers would guard the rear. The armed civilians would stay on the edges of the convoy at its most vulnerable parts. We realized that the maintenance tunnels would be large enough for some vehicles. I had called in for the BSAA to drop in some FN M249s. We had retrofitted some old cruisers by ripping off the roofs and mounting the M249s onto the back of the cars. Each cruiser would have a driver, someone mounting the turret, and someone armed with a rifle in the shotgun seat. We had vetted the civilians who would be carrying firearms through background checks and psych evaluations. Lucky for us, the computer databases were still up and running. The cars would drive carefully in the middle of the convoy, watching the areas we couldn't. It was a ten-mile journey to the docks. If just a few people cracked under the pressure, a lot of people could get hurt. We didn't really have any other options. This plan was going to work, it had to.

I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket. I set my coffee mug on the floor and dug into my pocket for my phone. I pulled it out and flipped it open, checking the caller ID. It read, "Jill Valentine". I smiled to myself. When I knew I was going to be here for a while, Jill and I started calling at the same time every morning. I always looked forward to these talks. I pressed the green button to accept the call and held the phone up to my ear.

"Hey," Jill's voice sounded through the speaker.

"Hey, It's good to hear your voice," I responded.

"We just talked yesterday."

"I know, but still." She chuckled at that.

"I feel the same. So today's the big day?"

"Yeah, we're finally getting these people out of here."

"Good, then you can finally come home."

"That's the plan."

"You have no idea how much I've missed you in these short few weeks. I just wish Chris didn't ground me and let me come along."

"As much as I love having you watch my back, I'm glad you're not here. It's Raccoon City all over again. This plan we're pulling off, it's a risk."

"I trust you. You'll pull it off. The BSAA has boats standing by at the docks. We'll grab the civilians and then get them out of there." I heard the door to the roof swing open. I saw Vladimir standing in the doorway. I nodded to him.

"How's Chris's team doing? I haven't heard from them in a while," I asked Jill.

"Pretty well. They spent these weeks gathering all of the local government officials and any stragglers, same as you. They're evacuating them via helicopter today. Apparently, Chris and Karena have grown quite close," she responded. I chuckled at that.

"Well, it's about time Chris found someone. Listen, I need to get going. We have to get everyone moved out."

"Alright, I'll be live on comms in just a few minutes. Good luck. And Y/N?"
