Chapter 7: Joan

I keep hearing Leia's voice. But every time I hear it, it sounds really distant.
For some strange reason I'm running through this field of high grass. Are we back on the farm? Where am I?
Everything appears sightly blurry around me, except for the grass and flowers right in front of me.
Today in the sunlight is extremely bright. I blink my eyes several times to try and block out the light but it's like my can't get my eyes to close. I feel something cold touch the back of my neck and I try to scream but nothing comes out of my mouth. That's strange. I can't quite figure out why. I try to blink again. This time I close my eyes and open them again. The bright sunlight is back.
Again I open my mouth to scream. Aaaaahhhhh! Stop that! But it comes out like a whisper.
My throat is so dry. It has to be dry from being in the bright sun for so long. It feels like I'm stuck outside. In the worse summer weather ever.
I tell myself to keep running, maybe you can find Leia. I can hear her voice again. I try and close my eyes again. This time I can blink. But now everything is super blurry.
I open my mouth and scream again. HELP ME LEIA!
It comes out louder this time. I hear Leia and she is close now. I blink 2 more times. The bright sunlight shines into my eyes again.
NO! This time it's comes out in a scream but not from me. Then I hear something growl!
Please help! I don't want to die. Is all I can manage to say before my throat freezes up.
It's ok I have you baby girl. The voice says to me. Then there is a lot of commotion. I hear another voice say.
What in the world is going on here? Doc Hudson can give us a minute? Tyee, explain yourself.
Yes Alpha. The two voices say in unison.

Hey! Over here, I say. This time I blink and everything comes into focus.
Standing before me is Leia. And to her left a very tall male with beautiful tan skin and long black hair. It flows over his shoulders in a single braid with one brown eye and one blue eye. By the door is who I assumed is the doctor. He is an older man very stocking build with grey hair and he is the smallest of the men in the room. On my right is another man. Right now he is holding my hand and sending tingles up my arm. His is beautiful. His hair cut short in a very militant buzz cut. High cheek bones show on his very masculine face. His skin is smooth. His complexion reminds me of the color of toffee. He has green eyes but his are the color of a forest. Tall with broad shoulders. His body is built like a swimmer's. Very athletic and lean.
Hi, he says softly. And I realize he is the one who was talking to me earlier.
Did you growl at the doctor? I asked him.
He bows his head. Yes. He says in an almost child like voice.
That's not nice. I said squeezing his fingers. He was only trying to help I assume. We can't go beating everyone who you think is hurting me up silly.
I turn to look at my sister. Leia and the other guy are giving us both strange looks. What? I asked.
Nothing she says.
LeeLee which is the nickname I have called Leia since I was 2.
Yes! She says back softly.
Can I have some water my throat is awfully dry?
Sure. She says.
Hey Tyee! Can you help me sit her up?
Tyee leans in and when his chest brushes against my arm it's like I have been shocked or better yet zapped by lightning. We both gasp. He looks away like he is ashamed and the other guy comes and pushes him out of the way.
Bro she is like a little sister to me. Get your head in the game or get the fuck out of here. Growls are exchanges. Leia comes around the bed putting herself between the two of them. The tallest one stands down instantly. Tyee however is getting in more trouble from the looks of it. Because it is all happening so fast and I seem to be missing pieces of the conversation. I'm too exhausted to care.
Please guys I'm thirsty. I manage to say. Breaking the tension. The guy I learn later is Alpha Kai scoops me up and sits me where my legs are dangling off the bed. It feels weird.
Whoa! How long have I been in this bed? Almost two weeks Tyee says. Looking like he could tear this room apart. What is his deal?
Alpha Kai. Tyee says.
Yes Tyee.
Permission to explain myself, my actions have been rude.

He walks over and gently sit down next to me.
Joan, I believe you are my mate but the pull is not strong. It maybe because of your curse or maybe that you don't have your wolf yet.
I turn and look at him. Sadly Tyee I will never get my wolf.  I say.
Leia comes up to me and hugs me. Joan while you were sick and out of it. Alpha Kai called over to a neighboring pack. They sent over their witch. Her name was Zara. She did a hex reversal.
She was able to remove the curse but told us that she knows for sure our children would all be able to get their wolf. And that there is a 50/50 chance that after you turned 18 you could get your's as well.
Leia steps back. To give me some much needed space. Since Alpha Kai and Tyee are still very close to me.
Well I don't know if it was the fever or Zara trying to reverse the hex but that explains all the weird dreams. I say out loud.
Everyone laughed. Now that the mood is much lighter. Doc Hudson returned with ice chips. Here Joan let's start with these so you don't get choked up. I heal fast but it still hurts to be punched. He says looking at Tyee.
I turn to Tyee. Can you behave? I need to Doc to help me.
For you squaw I will.
Did you just call me woman?
He slowly backs up. Hands up like he is surrendering. Sorry sorry he says. Alpha Kai chuckles. Oh this is good.
Leia reach's out and smacks Kai's arm.
Behave. Leia says to Kai.
