Part 3 Of my series where I pick out Pokemon game and anime characters of whom deserve to become a gym leader, elite four member or regional champion. Today, I'm talking about Wes.

Wes, the Protagonist of Pokemon Colosseum as well as his own manga series, is one of the VERY few Pokemon Protagonists in existence that doesn't become a regional champion by the end of his game.

Let's start out with the obvious, Wes is the oldest Pokemon protagonist by date. He is introduced as not only a seasoned trainer sporting an Espeon & Unbreon but he's also a former criminal and member of an evil organization called Team Snagem. He was the BEST member of Team Snagem, so much so, the organization crafted a piece of technology tailored to Wes' body capable of stealing Pokemon from their trainers called the Snag Machine. Yes, you heard me right. Wes has the power to rip Pokemom away from their trainers at his fingertips.

Later, Wes came to the decision to steal the Snag Machine, leave Team Snagem and quite literally blow up Snagem's hideout before realizing that he had been caught up in an unfortunate series of events and now he must take down ANOTHER evil organiz...

Later, Wes came to the decision to steal the Snag Machine, leave Team Snagem and quite literally blow up Snagem's hideout before realizing that he had been caught up in an unfortunate series of events and now he must take down ANOTHER evil organization called Cipher. Cipher is a world wide evil organization of whom steal Pokemon & turn them into evil fighting machines AKA Shadow Pokemon.

To put it simply, how the heck is Wes NOT the strongest trainer in the Orre/Hoenn region? He was the top/strongest member of an evil organization on top of many other feats. Wes is one of the rare instances where the main character DOESNT become the regional champion. To be fair, Orre isn't in Hoenn but it's implied that its located within and or near Hoenn & that the gym challenge/Elite 4 isn't available in Colosseum. Still though, this man single handedly stolen 40+ Pokemon throughout his game & manga series, took down TWO evil organizations, defeated two of the strongest trainers in the world & canonically has FIVE LEGENDARIES at his disposal!? Suicune, Raikou, Entei, Ho-Oh & Jirachi. Wes had earned the respect/right to capture two Legendaries he had captured In the game.

It is optional for Wes to scale Mt Battle, a volcano where you battle 100 trainers & the strongest trainer in the region at the end. Some POWERFUL Pokemon that Wes owns, that weren't previously mentioned, includes Feraligatr, Typhlosion, Tyranitar, Metagross, Flygon & more.

In the development of Colosseum's sequel: Gale of Darkness, it was planned that Wes had became the new leader of the very Organization he took down within Colosseum. Therefore, Wes had became one of the strongest trainers on the planet WITHOUT officially becoming a regional champion to any capacity. This plot was abandoned as Pokemon thought this plot was too dark and edgy for children. So technically it didn't happen, but it's the thought that counts.

So once again... HOW IN THE HECK IS WES NOT A CHAMPION IN HOENN!?!?!? Let alone one of the strongest trainers in the entire world.
