"Hello, Jalen!"
"Oh. Hey, Jeslyn."
This is Jeslyn Cruz. She's the most popular person in our grade and knows everyone's name. She even knew me. I knew obviously because I study people's names.
Normally, this is something that would never happen to a nerd, introverted, or unpopular person. This though was a different story, She actually likes connecting with others. I will admit that I have worked in groups with her a few times.
It's not like I never talked to a human or avoid human interaction. I just was treated badly in the past so I have this weird perception of people. You could say that I'm someone who can't trust others.
Anyway, she had a question to ask.
"Why are always so alone? Like no one comes over to you and I kinda feel bad."
"You don't need to feel bad for me. It's not like I care if I'm alone or not. I move forward in life and things happen."
"Look. I have a weird proposition for you. I would like to work with you."
"You see, I don't need friends at the moment but I'm working on it."
"But you will be alone for the next two years."
"That will change somehow."
She walks away and says that she will come back later. I wasn't exactly sure when that would be. Whenever that is, I will do something with it.
I walk to my first-period class and sit in the front next to the window. Everyone starts to sit down in their seats but next to me, there she is. It's Jeslyn again. I guess she's in the same class as I am. I don't know what to feel so I looked towards the window.
Class started and the teacher came in and everyone stopped talking. It was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. The teacher looked around and yelled GOOD MORNING to everyone. The class responded back and class started.
I could already tell that this teacher was going to be the type that was very passionate. She seemed interesting. This is already an exciting start to the day. Jeslyn tapped on the shoulder and asked if I wanted a piece of gum. I politely declined. I'm someone who didn't want to attract attention.
The teacher quickly saw Jeslyn and took her gum away. The teacher Ms. Andrews got mad at her and told her to go outside in the hallway for a little. Jeslyn gave a dirty look and left. The teacher did the usual things like roll call, talking, and explaining the class. Lastly, we had to do introductions. Ms. Andrews was about to start but that was when another teacher came into the room, holding Jeslyn that had cuts and blood on her face. Everyone got shocked and asked what happened.
I knew everything that happened though. When Jeslyn went to the hallway, she actually went outside and got into a fight with a girl in another class. Jeslyn went far and took a knife out of her pocket and was about to stab this kid. It was almost like this was planned. The teacher saw her but the other class girl went somewhere and Jeslyn came back to the classroom.
Jeslyn was upset that she was going to be suspended but she ended up finding out that I was watching the whole fight so she decided to run to my seat and punch me in the face. I stopped the punch and kicked her to the ground. Some police officers then came over and pinned her to the ground and put handcuffs on her.
This went from good to bad.
Jeslyn was taken out of the room and class continued. Everyone in the room was terrified of what just happened. I was completely calm and just continued to look out at the window. We were on introductions and it's going by seat order so that means that I go first.
"Hello everyone. My name is Jalen and I'm excited about the school year and making connections with everyone."
I sat down and people started whispering to others about the making connections part. People believed that I was crazy. I heard things like
"He never will make a friend."
"He's a complete idiot."
"I hope he's joking."
"What made him change his mind?"
"I think I would like to be his friend."
Those were examples of what they said. Everyone went through their introductions and the class was almost over.
Minutes later though, the school principal got on the loudspeaker and said that everyone is excused from school for the day. This was by no surprise at all. Everyone was happy but it was early in the day so most were probably going to stay until lunchtime and then leave.
I quickly got out of my seat and went home.
I walk home and saw no one home so I just went to my room, called my parents, and studied for the rest of the day.
