Chapter 4: The Truth

The assembly started and a man came up to the podium and spoke loudly.

"Good afternoon students. I'm Principal Jones and I wanted to briefly talk to everyone here about the situation at lunch today. You are not to attack our fellow students in any way. Violence isn't something that is needed or used against someone."

The students were just questioning their actions but also seemed that they wouldn't admit their hate deeds. I was starting to feel that this school just hates Jeslyn and me over one stupid thing.

Jeslyn: "I can't believe that this is really happening. The school staff is caring for once and no one really cares. I'm going up there."

Jalen: "Jeslyn, what are you doing?"

Jeslyn: I'm going to solve the elephant in the room. I'm going to tell you what really happened in the fight."

Jeslyn proceeds to walk aggressively and comes up to the podium. The principal was shocked but didn't bother to stop her. The students were actually sitting up and ready to hear what Jeslyn was going to say.

Jeslyn: "Good Afternoon Students! My name is Jeslyn Cruz and I have mistakenly been hated on for the past few days. It must be because of the fight. I can tell that everyone is misinformed about what happened in the fight last week."

As I said in the last chapter, I already knew everything that happened in the fight.

Jeslyn: "Look, if you let me explain, I will tell the truth in front of the entire school."

That's when the entire room became so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.

Jeslyn: "It started when I was caught chewing gum in class. I gave a sour look at my English teacher and got sent to the hallway. I was standing out there next to the unused lockers. I was just about to walk back to class I could come back but that's when I ran into this girl in the same grade and she wanted to fight. Her name was Annabelle Ding and she is actually here today. I wasn't sure why we should fight but it appeared that she was jealous over the ex-boyfriend that I had. His name was Chad Stevens and he was a good guy but we broke up last week though."

The students were already switching up but still, some were questionable and some were waiting for more.

"Jeslyn: "I really didn't want to fight but when she said that she would beat up my new friend Jalen as a threat, I didn't want her to do that. I always want everyone to be safe and provide a safe environment for this school."

People started to clap from the last sentence. I have to admit. She is class president material for a reason. 

Jeslyn: "I wanted to tell the teacher but I made a regretful decision and decided to protect my pride. We both went to the courtyard and fought with my hands and it was bad. I even started to cry to myself. Was I doing the right thing? Is this something that will affect my legacy in this school? I only wanted peace and no violence."

The students in the room were shocked by her words. They all didn't expect her to be this inspiring and right. Now it was really time to go after Annabelle instead of Jeslyn. 

Jeslyn: "I was in trouble and she was claiming that she was really going to beat up Jalen and the entire school as well. I just had to pull my knife out of my back pocket and stabbed her in the face and broke her ribs. Thank you all for your time."

The school was shocked by what they just heard. The seniors were shocked. The younger students were questionable of her actions and the teachers were considering if they should give a suspension for Jeslyn.

Jalen: "You did great! I didn't actually think you were protecting for my sake."

Jeslyn blushing: "Oh shut it!"

The assembly ended and the principal decided to end it for the day and early release. People from our grade ran to Jeslyn and started respecting her for her actions. I was more focused on Annabelle. I started to walk away and thought to myself, "While it's not a good idea to fight her, I would like to later in the year when I actually have some sort of info on her."

Jeslyn: "Hey Jalen! Want to go to the park for a little bit? I would like to talk to you about Annabelle."

Jalen: "Yeah sure. We can tell what we know."
