Luke walked into Cobain's room a few days later. He wanted to do something special. He had become distant with his daughter ever since he read the note last week, and he could tell she was worried.
"Hey Cob." Luke said as he knocked on the door, opening it a few seconds after. "Yeah?" His daughter looked up from the phone she was on. "Can I talk to you?" Cobain let out a cough and nodded, setting her phone down and sitting up on her bed. Luke sat on the end and let out a sigh. "Do you remember your mom at all? Not Anna, I know you've grown up with her as your mom, but um, Hayley?"
Cobain let out a huff. "I don't really remember her at all really. She wasn't in my life long enough to remember."
Cobain had always held an unsaid grudge against 'Hayley'. She didn't really know why. She knew that she was sick and she didn't want Cobain to see her get bad, but she hated the way Luke would go hide away for days after something happened. Even as simple as Cobain arguing with him sent him over the edge, making him go in his room for a good 3 days before he slowly started talking to her again.
"I went into the room the other day." Luke tugged on his black tee, he didn't his daughter to see him so distraught but she needed to know. "Yeah, Anna told me. I was going to ask but she told me to leave you alone."
Luke nodded his head, deciding to ignore the lump growing in his throat. "I found a note, I want you to read it and come get me when you're done." Luke set the old piece of paper on the bed and stood up. "Love you." Cobain nodded, mumbling a quiet "love you too" under her breath.
Right as Luke walked out, Cobain jumped up from her spot and grabbed the note. She was curious as to what it said.
She walked around the room, her eyes flickering across the page as she read, and re-read the note.
"Luke, Tell her I love her too the moon and back" Stuck in her head as she set the note down. "I hope you didn't because I put a special present for Cobain in my favorite notebook. Could you give it to her. Giver her the whole thing. Tell her i'm sorry too. Tell her I didn't know how to end it so I did what I usually do when I don't know how to cope with things. I left it.. Tell her to come up with her own ending. Tell her to make it happy, and like any princess movie she's ever seen. It's all up to her how she wants it to end."
Cobain sighed as she sat down on the floor. "Teach her to never give up, and to only have positive thoughts. And when she learns to love someone, tell her to stay true to who she is, and not change for a single person. " Thoughts rushed through her head as she stood up and walked out into the family room to see Luke sitting down. "I'm done dad." Luke turned around and looked at Cobain. A few tears were running down her cheek as she remembered small details about her mom.
Like how when she would cry her mom would tell her a story, and no two stories were the same.
"The notebook is right here, um, be careful with it okay?" Luke gently passed the notebook to his daughter, how held it as if she held it any tighter it would crumble into a pile of dust.
"Can we go see her?" Cobain broke the silence as Luke began to walk away. "You want to go to her grave?" Luke asked her in amazement. Each year when he went, he asked Cobain, and she always said no.
"Yeah."
