Sick day

⚠️WARNING VOMIT AHEAD⚠️:

It has been 1 month since Max had moved in with The Byers/Hoppers.

MAXS POV:
it was 5:30 a.m when I heard someone throwing up. I just figured it could be Will so I didn't really care. But then I heard the toilet flush followed by quiet soft sobs. I recognized the sobs. It was El. I opened my eyes and didn't find her in bed so I knew it was her.

I rushed out of the room and burst into the bathroom where I found El sitting down on the floor crying, her back was against the wall while hugging her knees and her forehead resting on her knees. I walked over to her quietly and sat next to her wrapping my arm around her pulling her into a side hug so she can lay her body against mine. "Are you okay?" I asked softly. She sniffled "I'm fine don't worry about me. Go back to sleep I'll be fine" she said her voice breaking. I could tell she's in pain. "I'm not leaving your side" I told her "why have you been throwing up?" I asked concerned "I've been sick for a week now" she replied. My heart sank deep into my stomach "wh-what? Why didn't you tell me?" I asked. Worry started to fill my body "I didn't want you to worry about me and get forced to take care of me. I thought I could take care of myself but that didn't work" she said on the verge of tears again. "Hey, I don't want you to think that I am forced to take care of you. I love taking care of you more than anything in the world. So we're going to pick you up and take you to bed and get you something to eat so you can take some medicine okay?" I said while giving her a comfort smile. She nods in response and I pick her up hinting her to wrap her legs around me so she wouldn't fall. She rests her head on my shoulder and I take her to bed.

I put her down and tuck her in. "I'm gonna go get you medicine and something to eat okay?" I said. She shakes her head no and I give her a confused look "I don't want you to leave my side. It may sound stupid but I'm scared I'll throw up again" she told me in her sweet innocent voice. I sigh through my nose and pick her up again and take her down to the kitchen where her parents are drinking coffee. "Oh good morning you two. Is everything okay? Why are you up so early?" Asked us Joyce. "Yeah everything's okay El is just a little sick so I'm getting her some medicine" I answered her "wait what? She's sick?! Why didn't you tell us El?!" Hopper snapped back. I see El starting to tear up from the corner of my eye at her dad's sudden aggressive change of tone. "Shh it's okay love" I whisper to her, my words seem to calm her down. "She was scared you guys will be forced to take care of her so she kept it a secret" I answered instead of her cuz I knew if she had answered them instead she would've burst into tears. "No sweetheart we aren't forced to take care of you. We love taking care of you and we do it cuz we want to" her mom said while caressing El's cheek. I feel El smile on my shoulder "why don't you two take the week off of school and stay home until El feels better?" Said Hopper "that would be great thx Hop" I said smiling. He nods back and continues drinking his coffee.

I set El down on the kitchen counter and get her something small to eat. She eats it then swallows the pill with some water. I saw her facial expression change so I knew she was tired. I pick her back up and take her to bed. As I was about to leave the room to give her privacy I feel her pull my hand back not letting me leave "plz stay with me Maxie" she said while giving me her famous puppy eyes.

I knew I couldn't resist those eyes so I laid back down next to her pulling her close to me as much as I possibly could. I had a deep bowl on her bedside table just in case she needs to throw up again. I feel her falling asleep and soon I fall asleep too. A few hours later I wake up and just stare at el. I soon hear her groan sleepily.

She was starting to wake up. She muttered something under her breath so I couldn't really hear her. "What is it love?" I asked her softly "Bowl" she said quickly "oh okay hold on" I give her the bowl and she sits up. She puts the bowl in front of her face and I could hear her stomach rumbling...

⚠️ WARNING VOMIT AHEAD⚠️:

I rub her back in circles gently. I hear her whimpering in pain and disgust "it's okay love you'll feel better when you throw up. You'll feel way better okay?" I tell her trying to comfort her.

I soon hear her insides flipping and she started throwing up into the bowl. All I heard was her stomach and some acid noises. She stopped throwing up and her face started to look pale. "Stay here I'll be back in a second" I tell her while giving her a peck on the forehead before leaving the room. I get a wet wash cloth and clean her mouth then walk back downstairs to the kitchen.

I dump all the vomit down the drain in the kitchen and wash the bowl then dried it "thank you for taking care of her Max" I heard Hopper say while he was hung up his coat up against the coat hanger they had on the wall "it's no problem" I reply with a friendly smile on my face "I don't know what she would've done without you" he continues "I just love her so much and want her to be happy" I said. I didn't even realized that I had told him I loved her until the words were out of my mouth "I can tell she loves you too" Hopper said while giving me a small smile. "MAXIE!!" I heard El scream. I look over at Hopper and he nods.

I run upstairs to El's room. "Baby what's wrong?" I asked worriedly "I don't feel so good" she said to me "like worse than before" she continued. I noticed her face was paler than it was when I left her to go downstairs "how do you feel worse? In what way?" I said while sitting next to her again "I feel dizzy and I'm freezing cold" she said in a weak way.

I put my hand on her forehead and instantly jump back trying to cool off my hand. "You're burning up" I say worriedly "how'd you get sick El?" I asked her confused "I...walked in the rain last week when I went to school" she said shamefully "but we usually go to school together" I said "yeah but I guess I just wanted to walk in the cold that day while you and Will went with Hop in his car and then it started raining" she replied. I pulled her closer to me and snuggled into her in attempt to keep her warm so her temperature wouldn't rise higher.

I didn't give her any medicine afraid she'll puke it back up. And maybe bc I didn't know which medicine to give her and Joyce wasn't home to tell me and I stupidly didn't think about calling her 🫠. (Imagine me saying it super fast)

It was 30 mins later and I was about to fall asleep when I hear the door creak open. I put my head up slowly so I wouldn't wake El up. I see Joyce and the party behind her with worried looks on their face. "How's she doing?" Joyce asks me while sitting down slowly on the edge of the bed "not so good. She has a high fever and she threw up earlier" we were whispering so we wouldn't wake her up "I'll leave you all alone but if anything else happens plz tell me" Joyce said before leaving.

"I feel bad for El" Mike said "yeah she's really tired and her face is so pale. I'm kinda scared for her" I said while agreeing with Mike "did you move in with her?" Asked me dustin "yeah I moved here 1 month ago" I answered his question "are you two like a thing?" Lucas asked me "yeah we are" I replied "really?! I never knew you were gay" he said in a loud enough tone of voice to wake up el. "Seriously Lucas?" I snapped back at him a little while pulling El close to me so she can go back to sleep "it's okay love go back to sleep" I told her trying to make her go back to sleep "i don't want to" she said "okay. How are you feeling?" I asked her "same as before but a little better" she said weakly. I felt so bad for her cuz I know how she's feeling. "I hope you get better soon El" told her Mike while giving her a smile "thank you" she said weakly again. Suddenly El fainted. It was probably bc of exhaustion and how weak her body was.....
