'Steve?' I asked as I wandered into the lounge room

'Hmmm?' He replied, not looking up from the book he was deeply engrossed in.

'You know this six nugget plan of yours?'

'Yeah?' Sounding hesitant, with his head still stuck in his book

'Well, I was thinking..........'

'Oh..? Should I be worried?' Steve had still yet to look up from his book

'No! I was think we should start off with something a bit easier than a baby.'

'Huh?' He asked, FINALLY looking up from his book, with a confused look on his face.

'Well, I was thinking we should get a pet! We could "practice" with an animal before we start having babies.' I said, using my fingers to highlight the inverted commas.

'Okay, what were you thinking? A cat? Or a dog? Or.....'

'A rabbit!' I said, cutting him off

'A rabbit?'

'Yeah, a rabbit! I went past the pet shop the other day and they had the cutest little bunnies in the window, there was a black one that was just adorable, it had these big floppy ears - it was just so cute!' I almost squealed as I rambled off my excitement, 'And the guy at the store said if they didn't get sold, they got sent to a laboratory to have experiments done on them, and we know how awful that is!' I said poking out my bottom lip.

I watched as Steve sat thinking it over, his brain weighing up the pros and cons of getting a pet.

'Just think, a dog would be too noisy and one of the kids is bound to be allergic to cats - a rabbit would be quiet and less likely to cause allergies!' I stood there, giddy with anticipation, waiting for Steve to decide if he agreed to my idea.

'Hmmm, I think my darling Y/N, that getting a pet sounds like a great idea!'

'OH MY GOD!' I almost screamed, 'Really? You really think so?'

'Yeah, I wasn't allowed a pet growing up - my parents wanted to keep the house picture perfect and a pet would mess that up - but now that they've moved to New York and the house is mine, I say LET'S GET A PET!!!'

'Yes!!!' It somehow came out as a high pitched squeak as I grabbed Steve's hand and pulled him up off the couch so I could throw my arms around him. 'Thank you, thank you, thank you, I love you, I love you, I love you!!' I said as I peppered kisses all over his face. Steve squeezed his arms around my waist as he scrunched up his face amid my kissing assault.

'We'll go to the pet store tomorrow and go get ourselves a bunny!' Steve said as he pulled away and sat back down on the couch to continue reading.

'Yay!' I did a little happy dance before joining him on the couch and turned on the TV, a huge grin plastered across my face. The smile didn't last long as it was making my cheeks hurt plus I was getting engrossed in what I was watching just as much as Steve was in his book.

_______

I made us get up early so we could go to the pet store and get our new fur baby. Steve kept chuckling at how excited I was as we got ready to go. I was like a kid at Christmas, I was so excited. I grabbed Steve's hand and practically dragged him into the pet store the second we were out of the car. Thankfully the bunny I wanted was still in the window.

'There's the one I want, it's still here!' I pointed the rabbit out to Steve as the sales assistant approached us.

We were able to get our bunny, a hutch and food for a really good deal. We took it in turns holding the rabbit (which we were told was a girl) and both of us falling in love with her, as we were waiting for our sale to be rung up. I cuddled our new bundle of joy on the car ride home, Steve would glance over at us smiling, seeing how much love I was giving the rabbit. We made a temporary enclosure for the bunny - who I decided to call Flopsy - as we built her hutch and got her new home all ready. Once we were done, we sat on the grass with Flopsy, watching her get used to her new surroundings.

Steve stretched his legs out, resting back on his arms that were sticking out behind him, Flopsy had somehow made her way up onto his legs and was now resting in his lap, it was the cutest thing I'd ever seen.

'I think she likes you!' I said as I softly patted her while she slept in Steve's lap.

'She's got good taste!' Steve said looking at me with a smirk on his face.

'Steve.....' I said, rolling my eyes at him before looking back at our precious bunny.

Steve sat up, trying not to disturb the sleeping rabbit and gave her a pat too.

'This was a good idea babe, we're pretty good at this owning a pet thing!' He said, leaning over to give me a kiss.

'Steady on there buddy, we've only had her a few hours!' I said, before kissing again.

Flopsy decided at that moment to wake up and go for a hop around the yard, we quickly got up from the ground and chased her, trying not to scare her. We managed to corner her and get her into her hutch before she was able to make her great escape.

'You were saying?' I asked Steve as he rested his arm on my shoulder as we watched our beloved rabbit happily hop around her new - and secure - home, clearly unaware she could have created a disaster, had she been able to escape. He looked down at me and let out a small laugh 'C'mon bunny daddy, let's go inside, let madam herself settled without us two weirdos watching her!'

We didn't move for another 5 minutes, as we continued to watch Flopsy sniff around her new home. The cold breeze snapped us out of our new fur-parent haze and made us go inside.
I headed to the kitchen to make a start on dinner. I thought Steve had gone into the lounge but when he didn't answer anything I was saying, I realised he wasn't there. It didn't take long for me to find him - he was outside checking on Flopsy to make sure she wasn't too cold. If this is what he was like with a rabbit, he was going to make a great dad!
