Chapter 32: Astonished

"Good morning Grandma" I greeted her when I entered the kitchen.

"Good morning sweetie" she said. I kissed her on the cheek.

"I'm going out with the twins today" I told her.

"Okay. Are you having lunch with them?"

"Yes, I am".

After I had breakfast and talked for awhile with my grandmother I walked through the garden and entered the neighbor's house. They were sitting on the kitchen table having breakfast.

"Good morning" I said.

"Hi Via" said Chloe.

"Good morning" said Jim.

Harry smiled at me but Nate was too busy eating to say anything. I sat next to Chloe and observed them quietly.

"I have work to do. I'll be in my office if you need me" said Jim.

"Okay dad" said Chloe.

"So,... What are we doing today?" asked Nate when he had finished his breakfast.

"I thought we could go to the park or something" I answered. Harry stared at me with his eyes wide open.

"You want to go to the park?" asked Harry.

"On Sunday morning?" continued Nate.

Chloe was jumping on his seat, excited to go to the park.

"Go brush your teeth Chloe so we can leave early" I told her. When she had left I told the twins why I wanted to go to the park. "We need to talk and the park is the only place I can think of. It is noisy so anyone can hear us and we won't be disturbed".

We walked to the park silently listening to Chloe's explanation about what she had done at school the week before and an argument that she had with a friend. The social life of a toddler seemed tough.

Once we were at the park Chloe went to play and I sat on a bench between Harry and Nate.

"So..." said Harry. Nate raised his eyebrows and looked at me. "What's up?" asked Harry worried. "Did something happen between you too?"

"No, no..." said Nate in an exaggerated way. He still didn't want anyone to know about him and Adam although I had convinced him to tell his brother.

Harry looked at me with a concerned expression on his face. "Is something wrong, Via?"

"No, of course not, everything's perfect. We just have something important to tell you".

"You... " he said pointing at Nate and then at me. "...have something to tell me" I nodded. "Oh my god" he said and covered his face with his hands. What was he imagining? We hadn't told him anything yet. "I knew this would come sooner or later, I told Anna it would happen. But I can't imagine you together".

"Why not?" I asked offended. I couldn't believe he was saying that in front of Nate. "I think they would look good together".

"Wait" said Harry looking confused. "Did you just said they?"

"Yeah" I answered although it sounded more like a question.

"So you weren't talking about you and him".

"No, I wasn't" he was thinking I wanted to leave him for Nate?

"You thought I was going out with Via behind your back?" asked Nate disbelievingly.

Harry looked at him and then at me. "It doesn't matter" I said closing my eyes. "Just say it Nate".

"I can't".

"What are you talking about?" Harry asked.

"Okay, I'm going to say it then" I began but before I could finish Nate answered.

"Adam and I were together and I want to be with him again".

"What?!" shouted Harry astonished.
