Rei stared up at the cloudless sky her mind practically empty as a warm breeze passed over her. She was laying on her back in the grass field not too far from her home.

It had been seven years since Vik and Lucas had found Rei in the forest. The couple had quickly decided to take the young dragon slayer in after discovering she had nowhere to go. It took Rei some time to adjust to living with humans instead of a dragon but found she enjoyed it just as much. The small coastal town of Lotus had quickly found a special place in Rei's heart as she grew up. She had learned tons of things from her new parents and the other people of the village, who all knew Rei for her reckless attitude and immense strength. Lotus wasn't home to many wizards, and when Rei was only 13, she could take down every wizard from the town all at once. And because of this, Rei had found herself being the answer to most people's more serious problems. Which included the dark wizards that began appearing just before Rei had shown up in the village.

Rei let out a long sigh and closed her eyes. When she opened them, she saw a gray cat with wings hovering above her. The cat, Sky, had her paws on her hips and was giving Rei an annoyed look.

Rei had found Sky as a gray and purple egg only a year after Nephele disappeared. Rei had gotten upset with her adoptive parents and ran off into the woods, specifically back to where she had been the day Nephele had disappeared. To Rei's disappointment, the storm dragon was nowhere to be seen, but an egg that Rei could only think was a dragon egg was there instead. Rei took the egg home and, after a few weeks, it hatched to reveal a miniature version of the cat now hovering above her.

"Is this just all you're gonna do today?" Sky questioned.

Sky moved where she was hovering in the air as Rei sat up, "It's a nice day out. I'm just enjoying the breeze."

"I'm surprised you're not upset that there's not a storm rolling in soon," Sky retorted, earning a huff from Rei. "Everyone knows you prefer stormy weather over a sunny day like this, you don't have to hide it."

"I can bring a storm in if that's what you want," Rei said with a smirk. Sky only shook her head in disappointment, earning a confused look from Rei, "What?"

"You're so predictable it's upsetting," Sky replied with a small sigh. Then she flew so she was hovering directly in front of Rei instead of next to her. "Actually, you're needed in the village."

"What's it about?" Rei asked, letting herself fall back to the ground. "If Eve is asking to spar again, you can tell her I don't feel like watching her transform into some demon right before I knock her out again. Maybe tomorrow or something, just not now."

"No, this isn't Evelyn," Sky said in a serious tone as she stood on Rei's stomach, her wings disappearing temporarily before they reappeared when Rei sat back up.

Rei narrowed her eyes at the serious look on Sky's face, "Then what is it?"

"Someone was attacked by a dark wizard again," Sky answered, causing Rei to tense.

"Crap," Rei said before she stood up. "Lead the way."

Sky nodded and Rei followed her out of the small grass field and to the stone paths of the village. Rei had wondered why it had been so quiet, but now she knew. The streets were completely empty until she made it to the town's hospital.

Rei had heard the crowd before she saw it, but only because of her enhanced hearing. No one was talking above a whisper as they all stood in a spread-out crowd in front of the hospital. There were a few different groups of 4 to 8 townspeople all talking quietly to the people in their groups. When Rei arrived, she was immediately spotted by everyone.
