The blast of magic knocked Defender Strange down to the ground, and slowly but surely, it began to burn him.

On the other Earth, Stephen began to yell as ropes of chaos magic surrounded him. Christine and I both screamed, my power being drained very quickly. Just then, all the candles began to go out at once and the two of us were knocked away from Stephen.

Back in the present...

America jumped down from the stone table as Strange continued to burn, raising her fist and punching, causing a star-shaped portal to open behind her. America stood there, shocked, and clenched her fist. Wanda turned back to her, slowly shaking her head as if she was a mother disappointed at her child. But then America reeled back and hit her with several bursts of her power, again and again, driving her back towards the portal she'd made. Then she kicked her, and the Scarlet Witch stopped on the edge of the cliff, just moments from teetering into a world full of searing hot lava.

America reeled back for another punch, but the Scarlet Witch caught it with her chaos magic, driving the girl back onto the defensive. The portal behind her fizzled out into nothingness.

'I can't beat you,' America replied softly. 'So I'll give you what you want.' She reeled back for another punch and created yet another star-shaped portal. Grabbing America by the throat, she brought her to her knees, strangling her. Then, slowly, she turned, and saw her sons, watching TV.

'Billy, Tommy,' she said softly. They caught sight of her and cried out.

'Mommy, it's the witch!' they screamed and began to run up the stairs. 'Mom! Mommy!' they cried out in fear.

'Wait, boys,' she said, grabbing them and pushing them behind her. 'It's okay. It's okay. It's okay.'

'I'm your mother,' the Scarlet Witch screamed. 'Get away from them!' she sent a blast of magic, sending Wanda slamming into the wall.

'Mom!' the boys cried out. America stepped forward to help, but she heard a voice.

'No.' She looked back at Stephen. 'Not yet.'

'Mommy!' the boys yelled, running towards Wanda. They began to pick up things and throw them at the Scarlet Witch. 'You're not our mother! Get out of our house!'

'Boys, stop it,' she said, putting her arms up to stop the barrage of toys being thrown at her.

'You're not our mom! Get out! Go away! Go!' the boys screamed again.

'Stop it!' she screamed at them. They stopped, and ran away from her, cowering near the stairs. She came towards them, kneeling at the stairs, tears in her eyes, reaching out to them with blackened fingers.

'Please don't hurt us,' one of the boys said softly. 'Please.'

'I would never hurt you. Never. I would never hurt anyone,' she replied. 'I'm not a monster. I'm a...' She looked to see Wanda recovering from being slammed into the wall, slowly rising with a grimace of pain. She stepped back from them, sobbing. 'I'm sorry,' she said, and moved away from the boys as Wanda rose. The boys ran to her.

'Mom!' She cradled them, touching them affectionately.

'I'm okay,' she said softly. 'I'm okay.' With tears in her eyes, the Scarlet Witch fell to her knees. Wanda rose, the boys pleading with her not to leave, but she walked slowly to the Scarlet Witch, who sat on her knees with her head bowed, and she turned away at the sight of Wanda. Slowly, Wanda reached out and touched the Scarlet Witch's face tenderly. 'Know that they'll be loved,' Wanda said softly. She said nothing, and America slowly dissolved the portal to the universe of Earth-838, and the Scarlet Witch bowed her head with a strangled sob slipping past her lips.

Then, she raised her head, and levitated to the stone table, kneeling in quiet contemplation. America ran to Defender Strange.

'What now?' she asked.

'Get out of here,' he said.

'I'll find you,' she replied. She ran to the edge of the mountain and opened a portal. 'We have to go, now!' she called out to Wong. The two entered the portal and she closed it. Defender Strange looked up at Wanda, and she caught sight of him too.

'I opened the Darkhold,' she said. 'I have to close it.' He nodded slowly. 'No one will ever be tempted by the Darkhold again.' Slowly, she began to levitate the structure, then she breathed out and crashed it upon herself, a flash of chaos magic beaming out just before Mount Wundagore, and the Scarlet Witch, was no more.
