"Being brave means knowing
that when you fail,
you don't fail forever."The first task of the Triwizard Tournament was not long in coming. Only a few weeks had passed, during which the tension and excitement of the students and teachers had visibly grown and finally reached its peak on the marked calendar day.
Hermione was pacing the room early in the morning, waking Serena with her worried mutterings. "Hermione, you said yourself that Harry had mastered the summoning charm perfectly last night," she grumbled morosely, turning onto her stomach to bury her face in the pillow, fleeing the light that was trying to force its way through her eyelids.
"Yeah...", Hermione murmured slowly. Serena opened her eyes a crack now after all. Her friend was nervously stepping from one foot to the other, restlessly turning the textbook back and forth in her hand. "But what if something goes wrong? We have no other plan and creatures like dragons are not to be trifled with..."
"Everything will be fine," Serena tried to cheer her up confidently. Even though she herself could not deny that she was no less worried about Harry. For her, sleep was now also out of the question, so she finally peeled herself out of her warm bed with stiff limbs.
She shivered in the cool air that blew in through the open window. Serena involuntarily wondered who had thought it necessary to open it early that morning. Parvati and Lavender's beds were already deserted, which was quite out of character for the two of them. But it underlined the excitement for today.
Hastily, Serena grabbed a set of warm clothes and ran with her bare feet across the floor through the cold wind blowing through the red curtains of the dormitory. She desperately needed a hot shower.
Despite the rather early hour, it was mighty crowded in the Great Hall. Apparently, many students had taken the opportunity to get up earlier than usual in view of the upcoming event. Serena and Hermione squeezed through the excitedly whispering Gryffindors, trying to keep a place for Harry between them. He finally made an appearance after Serena had begun to nibble wearily on her toast.
"How are you?" asked Hermione worriedly, sliding a little to the side so that he could join them at the table. Harry didn't really look at either of them and merely poked around with a pale face at the scrambled eggs he'd helped himself to. "It's alright."
Serena frowned as she thought about what he had in mind for the task later. "Does the summoning charm even work at that distance?"
"It doesn't matter," Hermione replied expertly. "If Harry concentrates on it very hard, the Firebolt will come."
"So would it also work if I concentrated really hard on the chocolate at Honey Dukes?" asked Serena, hypothetically of course. "Because then I would really like to learn the spell."
