I sent a quick glance to Matthews, "What do you mean the rest?"
"The rest, the rest of the money and drugs that the bureau was never able to recover. That's just hanging out in the open for anyone to find and sell."
"Where is it?" Matthews asks.
Mark's smirk grows wide, "First, I want a transfer to a minimum security prison."
I sigh, slouching against the chair, "You know damn well I can't make promises like that."
"No, but you can get clearance for it. Stella, I'm fighting for my life here! Do you have any idea what they do to ex-feds? I'm lucky to have lived this long."
"Don't try to make me feel pity for you. You did this to yourself. You said you got greedy, if you hadn't then you would still be fed."
He sighs, "I know, Stella. I messed up. I regret what I did, but I can't go back and change things. If I make it out of here I'll never be able to be a fed again. My career in law-enforcement is over, for good. But, I don't want to die in here either, Stella. I know you don't owe me anything, but please." he begs.
I give another glane to Matthews before nodding, "I'll see what I can do, but I can't guarantee anything and you aren't going anywhere until we find something."
"Thanks, kid." he smiles.
"Absolutely not. Do you know the chaos he could cause in a minimum prison? He'd be running the place in a week!" The section chief yells.
"He's not like that. He's an ex-fed, they're trying to kill him."
"He wasn't thinking of his safety when he corrupted himself! He can pay the consequences!"
I sigh, "Sir, please reconsider. You requested me out here to get information on him, he will only release the location of his little HQ, that the bureau never found, millions of dollars in cash and drugs, if he gets transferred to a lower security prison. Imagine the media press release on this!"
That made him reconsider, "Fine, Hart. But, the second he starts any funny business he's sent back to max."
"Thank you, sir."
"Your lawyer has been contacted and is on the way to look over the agreement. But, overall, it states that you will comply with our request for the release of location(s) of anywhere you hid money, drugs, etc. In return you will be sent to a nearby minimum security prison for the rest of your sentence. However, if you give us false information or you get three strikes at the new prison, you are to be sent back to max for the remainder of your sentence." I explain.
"Damn, kid. Look at you." he smirks.
"Okay, enough with the kid crap." I roll my eyes.
"Let's hear about this new partner, huh?"
"Nope."
"Please don't tell me you're stuck behind a desk now." he gasps.
"No."
"So, you have a partner?"
"Stop it, Mark. You're fishing and it's not going to work."
"The only reason you wouldn't want to talk about your partner is if you can't talk about them... oh shit! Stella, are you–"
"Shut the hell up or I'll walk out that door and take the deal with me. And don't think I'm afraid to let all those men know that you're back to helping feds." I smirk.
