(A/N: Yeah, yeah, I know it was short. The chapters are longer, I promise, but I had to make it suspenseful, didn't I? Also, fair warning, this is just kind of a filler chapter to explain the events leading up to the prologue, to help you meet some of the characters a bit, and to provide some background before we get to the REALLLL interestin' stuff. It is important to read it still, but more interesting things are ahead O~< *rubs hands together evilly*)

(I'm sure my lord isn't happy with -)

(SAMMY WHAT'D I SAY ABOUT TALKING BACK! Fret not, faithful reader, this section will be a bit longer, and I'll do my best to update you with an author's note every chapter or two. Now on to the show!)

(I don't think the audience wants a n-)

(Sammy talk back one more time and I'll turn you into a salad. Now stop interrupting so we can get on with the story please?)

(*sigh* Yes ma'am.)

4 hours earlier

(Y/N) Drew sighed heavily as she crossed the threshold of the huge high school doors, stepping eagerly into the afternoon sun. The first day of junior year had gone well. Mostly.

"Hey, (Y/N)!"

She quickly skidded to a halt as she turned to see her best friend, Jayden Hamilton, sprinting to catch up with her. She gave a lighthearted smile as Jayden stumbled over to her, panting.

"How'd it go today? Did you get all the classes you wanted?" she asked curiously, pausing every few words to catch her breath. (Y/N) rolled, her eyes, waving her hand absentmindedly.

"Hardly. I'm gonna have to have a talk with the counselor tomorrow and see about getting them switched. Can you believe they put me in an agriculture class? As if we live anywhere near a farm!" she replied with a scowl, and Jayden giggled.

"Hey, just because we basically live in New York City doesn't mean farms don't exist, (Y/N)." Jayden teased with a grin, and (Y/N) lightly punched her arm, smirking.

"Whatever, Jayden. I'm an arts student, through and through. I like music and drawing, and someday, I'm going to be an animation designer, maybe even an actress if I'm lucky. I'm not gonna need agriculture for that!"

"Yeah, yeah. Hey, look over there, it's the boys on the basketball team!" Jayden said dreamily while pointing at the group of tall, athletic boys across the parking lot, completely distracted now. Which caused (Y/N) to sigh and shake her head in amusement. Then she blinked, tilting her head. "Hey, isn't that Weston?" Jayden asked as she looked completely past (Y/N) now, elbowing her shoulder, and she turned to see that Jayden was right.

A few feet away was the object of Jayden's look now, Weston Ross. He wasn't even looking in their direction, but (Y/N) could still, unwillingly, feel her face flushing.

"I guess he's a senior this year, now. Haven't you had a crush on him for, like, two years?"

"Shut up!" (Y/N) hissed quietly, blushing harder, and she slapped her hand over her friend's mouth just as Weston finally turned in their direction, smiling slightly when his eyes met hers, and her face heated up exponentially more.

"He's looking at you... and he's smiling, too!" Jayden squealed in a muffled voice, her mouth still concealed by (Y/N)'s hand, and she elbowed Jayden in the ribs, trying not to make the expression plastered on her face too obvious as he began walking towards them.

"Hey... it's (Y/N), right?" he asked casually, and both of the girls nearly felt their mouths fall open in surprise. (Y/N) gulped nervously and nodded, every introverted instinct she had suddenly going off like alarms in her head.

"Yeah, it is..." she replied softly, doing her best to keep her voice from shaking, while Jayden just stood there in wide-eyed shock.

"I'm Weston. I don't know if you knew that, but it's a big school so I wanted to make sure. Hey, uh, I was wondering if I could maybe get your number?" he continued smoothly, although for the first time, she noticed, he seemed to be nervous too. (Y/N) thought she was going to die right there. This had to be a joke or prank of some kind, right? She had to pull herself back to reality as his bright blue eyes met her in anticipation, and her mouth went dry as soon as she tried to form an answer.

"I, um, I mean yeah, sure!" She stuttered, screaming mentally about how stupid she probably sounded, and rapidly typed it in when he handed her his phone. Jayden was still apparently rendered speechless, or at least she acted like she was. She could only keep glancing back and forth between the two of them.

"Great, thanks." he said with a smile as (Y/N) handed his phone back, and he quickly shoved it in his pocket. "Maybe... we could get together, hang out sometime?"

"Yeah, that'd be great!" she squeaked out, and he nodded.

"Cool, see you later then."

(Y/N) and Jayden both just stood there as Weston walked off.

"Oh. My. Gosh! (Y/N), he just asked for your number! Is this for real!?" Jayden squealed as she took (Y/N)'s arm, and she shook her head in disbelief.

"I don't know, man, I can't believe it either. I guess I'll find out sooner or later if he's serious or not."

"I am definitely gonna be teasing you about this later. Can you come over tonight?"

"No, not tonight." (Y/N) answered with a sigh as she flung her backpack over one shoulder. "Madison made me do some stupid dare to go visit the old studio today. I would've said no, but I really don't feel like dealing with her pressure, drama, and awful pranks this year. I don't want a repeat of last year especially, so I'm just gonna get it over with. I'll see you tomorrow, Jayden."

"See you tomorrowwww!" Her friend teased back in a high-pitched voice, grinning as she walked away, and (Y/N) rolled her eyes in amusement once again, smiling as she walked to her car.

Now to find this place. It had been quite some time since she'd seen it, and although she didn't like to admit it, she was partially excited to go back. She didn't know why she only remembered leaving, maybe nothing had been particularly special about it. Whatever it was, the building was old, so at least it should be interesting. Only she didn't know just how interesting it would get.
