i wrote most of this officially a month ago and sort of forgot it existed. i remember that day, i was at target, and all that was really on my mind is that one lyric from grenade " you said you loved me ". i said/sang it out loud, emphasizing it in a heart broken tone.
when i came home and started to cook dinner, i wrote down a whole concept based off ' you said you loved me', and that's what you're reading now.
'grenade' in the past, has been my heartbreak, comfort song, the last time i had a crush on someone. that song is my fav after taylor swift's 'enchanted' ( also released in 2010, the same year as grenade. ) and is my free therapy.
i've written a couple other songs, based off a certain lyric of the song, so this isn't the first time i've done so. it's sort of fun to do so tbh.
this time however, i decided to base this one on the music video, but a certain scene, when bruno goes to his romantic interest's house and sees her with this other guy. he then proceeds to go to the train tracks, with his piano, and well yk. ( it's metephorically, so we don't have to worry. )
mostly the bridge ( my fav of what i wrote ) is based off that. the rest is simply my metaphorical imagination, revolving around cars and streetlights.
this can be perceived as either falling in love with someone who leads you on, to only break your heart when you realize they're already in a relationship with someone else and there's no chance of you two. they said they loved you though, so what was up with that?
or your ex has moved on and in a relationship with someone else and you're still in denial about it. your mind only flashes back to when they said they loved you. it feels like they've betrayed you, now that they're happy with someone else.
either way you perceive it, i hope you enjoy!! <33

INTRO / CHORUS:
You said you loved me
But did you really?
Cause if you did, like you swore to
Why would you leave me?
On the open side of the road
All bruised, in the scars of us
Not even a bandage could patch this up
That took some serious toll
You said you loved me
Then went ahead and let me go
1ST VERSE:
While I loved you so, little did I know
You were planning it all out
Jotting it in a dozen crinkled notes
Of how our arguments and apologetic sentiments would go down
Slick enough to dwindle right past me
That's exactly the jist of it
Causing me to lose grip of all feeble sanity
I was truly believing it was only my own fault
When in reality it was vice versa
Right to the brink, you shoved me
And watched from the passenger's side
Was it ever love that chimed through your mind?
Or was I really just a fool for you?
Either way, it seems I'm to blame
Or is it you?
CHORUS:
You said you loved me
But did you really?
Cause if you did, like you swore to
Why would you leave me?
On the open side of the road
All bruised, in the scars of us
Not even a bandage could patch this up
That took some serious toll
You said you loved me
Then went ahead and let me go
2ND VERSE:
The streetlights seemed to subside
As our love failed to reunite
Through your eyes
I was just a waste of time
Playing around with feelings
That wasn't right
You call that love, really?
Cause to me, your ego shone too bright
It blinded me from behind
And now, I've lost all sight
Of who the hell am I
CHORUS:
You said you loved me
But did you really?
Cause if you did, like you swore to
Why would you leave me?
On the open side of the road
All bruised, in the scars of us
Not even a bandage could patch this up
That took some serious toll
You said you loved me
Then went ahead and let me go
BRIDGE:
You're a sly one, aren't you?
I waited out your door
'Til I caught a glimpse
Of you with him
You were my will to live
But now I'm on fire
From the match you struck
All cause you're a liar
Look at what you've caused
Look at how you ended us
OUTRO:
It'll never be the same
And you're to blame
You said you loved me
But you never really did
No, you never did
