A/N: This is literally just a song I never cared for in 2021 and completely forgot, but it's actually not bad! I'm currently interpreting this as some unrequited crush song. I think those were my initial intentions when writing this song. Ah, don't we all love an unrequited crush song written by me? It was literally 80% of what I used to write up until late 2023!!
The 'what if' line is a song I started writing in 2021, but never completed. That one wasn't about anyone real though, just me being tHE ProBLeM in a hypothetical situation. I think that's what kind of differs 2021 songs from 2022? Idk, but I feel like in 2021 there was still a little bit of everything ( excluding love songs, really never wrote love songs until now ) and most 2022 songs just got depressing af. Like i"m sO hEaRtBroKeN aND mEntALLy uNstABLe. The thing is 2021 and 2022 songs connect, cause they were generally written about the same reminiscent heartbreak, but they're just so different at the time.
Like if I was to show you a 2021 and 2022 song, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference, but the difference is obvious. I think that my 2022 songs used the most metaphors, so yeah. Now I'm just babbling-
1ST VERSE:
I wouldn't want to waste your time on dumb shit
When it was the end of something nonexistent
Our loves a ghost creeping up on me in my sleep
And I can't seem to cross to the other side
When it's all so haunting
CHORUS:
It's so hard for me to believe
That you were nothing but a lucid, fake dream
I can try to foresee and perceive that you weren't the main lead
Since we weren't holding the same grip of the rope
It's all that you'll never know
POST-CHORUS:
All the 'what ifs' in songs I wrote
I was yes and you were no
What a joke, ain't that funny?
I ought to arrange a comedy show based on it all
I really should look before I fall
2ND VERSE:
I'm a liar and so are you, we all are
I caved in during REM
Not knowing what we are and what we could've been
I guess that's all part of a living ego with a torn heart
Unaware of where to stop and where to start
BRIDGE:
Oh, wake me from this fake dream
I must snap back into reality
I'm running, running of time
My quarters, they're turning into dimes
I'm running, running out of time
I'm tired of being thrown aside
Oh, wake me from this fake dream
I must snap back into reality
3RD VERSE:
Where's the special treatment that pleased me?
Desire for attention; I guess that's a crime
Can't I at least receive an honorable mention?
Being your spotlight was the green light for me
Call me an outlaw, begging to be behind the bars
But we could be a work of art...
CHORUS:
It's so hard for me to believe
That you were nothing but a lucid, fake dream
I can try to foresee and perceive that you weren't the main lead
Since we weren't holding the same grip of the rope
It's all that you'll never know
OUTRO:
All the 'what ifs' in songs I wrote
I was yes and you were no
Oh, I was yes and you were no...
