Jackie walks out of the tree line and into the center of a field in the woods. Bella, Adel, and Jasper stood in the middle of the field, but it seemed like Jackie was looking for someone else. "Irina isn't here," Adel said with a smirk.
Jackie glares at Adel, "You're not fighting? What, you break a nail or something?" she asked.
Bella sighs, "She's doing it for me. Okay?" she asked.
Jackie looked at her, "Whatever. Just tell me the plan," she said in annoyance.
"This field will give us an advantage in battle. We need to lure the newborns with Bella's scent. It needs to end here," Jasper explained.
"Adel and I are going to a campsite. Even if she carries me, they'll still pick up our scents," Bella said.
"But your scent is....unappealing to our kind," Adel explained.
"You really don't want to start comparing stinks," Jackie said in aggravation though since imprinting on Irina, she no longer found the vampire's scent sickly sweet.
"What she means is that your scent will mask mine if you carry me," Bella explained.
"Done," Jackie agreed.
"Okay, let's just try it," Bella said, then she extended her arms to Jackie. Jackie quickly picks her up, holding Bella close.
"Eau de wolf, coming up," Jackie said cockily.
"Run," Adel ordered. Jackie runs back into the woods with Bella gripping onto her. Soon Jasper tracks them for a bit, then return to the field. He jogs out of the tree line and stops in front of Adel.
"All I picked up was wolf stench. No Bella," Jasper said, but he could see the worry in Adel's eyes. "This will work, Adel. I give you my word," he promised while laying a comforting hand on her shoulder.
That night Jackie approaches the front door of the Cullen household. She nervously rubs her hands against her jeans and then awkwardly arranges her hair. Jackie straightens her flannel and then checks her breath. The door suddenly opens, revealing Irina, who smiles softly at Jackie, dazzling the young wolf. "I..um, would you go on a walk with me?" She asked.
"I would love to," Irina said, then left with Jackie. In the living room sat Adel and Emmett. They had been playing call of duty before Jackie showed up. Adel smirks and holds her hand out, causing Emmett to sigh. He pulls out some money and lays it in her hand. Alice Walks in with Jasper.
"I warned you not to take that bet," Alice said with a smile.
"How did you even know? You can't see the wolves in your visions," Emmett said in annoyance.
"Adel's gifts were based on her ability to read people when she was human. It's what she excels at," Jasper explained as he sat down in a chair. Alice jumps into his lap as Adel sits the PlayStation controller down.
"Don't worry 'Em, I'm sure you'll win next time," Adel said jokingly, causing Emmett to grumble.
Later that night, Adel walks into her bedroom, finding Bella in their bed with a book of baby names. Adel smiles as she walks over and joins her mate in the bed. Bella snuggles into Adel's side as she looks through the book. "Have you found any names you like?" Adel asked.
"I was thinking maybe Marie after my gran if it's a girl," Bella explained.
"That's a pretty name. I'm sure you're gran's soul would be honored by it," Adel said.
"What about you? Have you thought of some names?" Bella asked as she closed the book and turned onto her side, laying her head on Adel's chest.
"I like the name Marie, but maybe for a middle name, I would like Lagertha in honor of my mother," Adel explained.
Bella looks at Adel in surprise, "This is the first time I have heard you mention your mother," she said.
Adel sighs, "Even after all these years, it's hard to speak of them," she admitted.
"What was she like?" Bella asked.
"My mother was a fierce shield-maiden and loving parent. She had an unbreakable code of honor but was also ruthless, bloodthirsty, and fiercely ambitious. Growing up, I wanted to be just like her.....I hope with our child I can be just as doting and loving as she was," Adel admitted.
Bella leans forward and brushes her lips against Adel's, "You will be an amazing mother just like she had been," she promised.
The next morning Bella emerges into the same empty field from the day before. She touches another tree with her bleeding finger. Adel comes up behind her, "The newborns will be frantic with all that blood. Now let me put a bandage on that," she said, then takes Bella's hand and puts a bandage on her finger.
"You ready to go Bell's?" Jackie asked as she walked over. She and Adel nod curtly to one another. Jackie eyes the cloudy sky.
"Alice says there's a storm coming, "Adel said.
"Yeah, I can feel it. We should get going," Jackie said.
"I'll take the longer route. But I'll get there first. Set up camp," Adel explained, then kissed Bella on the head. "I'll see you in a couple of hours," she said, then grabbed Bella's bag and some gear, then blurred away.
Jackie looks at Bella, "Something up?" she asked.
"Just a bunch of vampires trying to kill me," Bella said sarcastically.
"So same old, same old," Jackie said. They share a smile then Jackie picks Bella up and runs into the woods.
