Remington

"So what's her address?" I asked Harlen, without taking my eyes of the road.

"I don't remember the address but, I remember how to get there. Just keep going straight and turn left at the next light." She mumbled quietly.

I did as she said, and then turned the radio on.

"Isn't this one of the songs you played last night?"

I nodded my head, "Yeah. 'Mr.Doctor Man'."

She nodded her head, and hummed along to the song, prompting me to follow suit. She had a good voice, I could tell. We continued to sing along to the song, until it was over.

"The boys will be stoked that it was in the radio." I grinned.

She just shrugged in response, "Uh, her house should be on the right."

She doesn't seem to be one for small talk, or any talk that doesn't involve hurling insults with the intent of making you cry.

I pulled into the driveway of a blue suburban home, and put my car in park.

"Here let me help you." I rushed out of the driver's seat and around to the passenger side to help Harlen out after seeing her try to hide a wince.

"I got it," She muttered. I ignored her, "Remington."

"Would you shut up and let me help you?" She rolled her eyes at my statement.

I let go of her after I knew she was out of the car, and then shut the door behind her. She let out an exasperated sigh as I followed her up the driveway, "You're fucking joking."

"Nope," I shrugged, "I've got enough shit to worry about. I don't need to add you to the list."

She wasn't facing me but, I could feel the eye roll from where I was standing, "You know Ratatouille, you really know your way into a woman's heart."

"You know it!" I cheered sarcastically.

"Fucking rat." She smirked as she threw the words out, and I knew that it was in direct relation to my nickname, and the movie that it reminded her of.

I kept my mouth shut as she rung the doorbell.

"Hey kiddo," I could feel the smile on Harlen's face as she leaned down to meet her sister's height, "you have all of your stuff?"

"Oh shoot," Gianna said. She's absolutely adorable, "I forgot my dolly. I'll be right back."

The girl ran back into the house leaving us alone with the woman standing in the doorway. She was at least 5'7, and looked like she had a former career as a model. Her falsely blonde hair just reached her shoulders, and was straight and neat. She was beautiful, except for the sour look on her face. Funny, that reminds me of someone else that I had met just recently.

"You're...later than I thought you'd be," She held a smile on her face. I wondered if Harlen could see through it the same way I could, "and you're...in the same clothes."

The judgement was evident in her voice.

"Yeah," Harlen chuckled awkwardly, "I spent the night with my friend, and forgot to pack a change of clothes."

"Right," The woman clicked her tongue. What the fuck is her problem, "is this your friend."

She looked me up and down, with a sense of disgust.

"Uh."

I cut off Harlen's defense with my own, "No. I'm her friend's brother. My sister had to cover a shift so I said I'd give Harlen a ride."
