I wake up in a room. It wasn't my room.
But I recognised the posters and bookshelves around the room. It was Max's room. We had told her parents that we were going to have a girls night in and they agreed, glad to see Max having some girl friends. With a clear space between the words. Billy didn't mention anything, although I still catch him sneering at me occasionally. Still, we kept the door locked as a precaution because...I mean, come on. How can we spend the night together and not have a makeout session?
I blink awake, letting my eyes adjust to the dim room before turning to check the time....Well, I tried to. I felt a weight on my arm which prevented me from turning and turning my head to look, only to fall on the small redhead girl. I smile to myself, admiring the girl as she sleeps. "You're a creep." She suddenly mumbles, peeking one eye open. "You're awake?" I ask, smirking at the girl. "I've always woken up earlier than you." She says, turning so she's facing me. We stare at each other for a moment, the teasing mood gone. "Morning." I mutter. "Morning." She replies. She yawns, cuddling into me like a child. "Mmm. We have to get up." I say, stroking the girl's hair. "Why?" She asks. "We have lives outside your room, you know?" I say before adding "Besides, I bet your parents will wonder why you're still asleep, since you wake up early and all."
The girl sighs, sitting up and stretching. "Fine. Then instead, we're going to skateboard." She says, hopping out of bed. I watch as she dances around the room to gather a few things and exits to the bathroom. Since the Snow Ball, Max taught me how to skate more. I can skate around the place now and do a few tricks. I'd alternate between riding my bike and skating to school. I quickly change and when Max returns, we exit her room, heading down to the kitchen. "Hold on." Max whispers before walking around the corner. After a few seconds, she returns, smiling. "Billy and Neil are gone. Just my mom getting ready for work." She says. She drags me around the corner and I spot her mother with her bag, pouring a cup of coffee. "Morning Max's Mom!" I say, smiling. "Good morning, Y/N" She says back. "I trust that Max didn't speak your head off about comics all night?" She asks, playfully glaring at Max. I nod silently, willing my cheeks not to redden as I remember what actually happened last night.
"Yeah mom!" The redhead shouted. "No, I won't bore her!" She shouted again before rolling her eyes. "Okay! Goodnight!" She shouted before closing the door. "What was that about?" I asked, grinning. "She doesn't know how to act with me actually having a friend that isn't a dude." She said, laughing. "Oh yeah? So, that's what I am then?" I teased. "A friend?" I crossed my arms, raising an eyebrow as I watched Max's face turn red, stuttering as she spoke. "Wait, n-no I never said that." She said, fumbling her words. "Mhm...?" I hum, turn around and pretend to look around. "Well, as a friend I think I'm gonna sleep in the guest room." I said, picking up my bag. "No, wait, Y/N, no." She said, running over and pulling my bag from my hands. "I didn't- you're not- I didn't mean it like that." She said, pouting.
"Then what did you mean?" I ask, stepping forward. "What am I...?" I whisper, now an inch away from her. Instead of responding to me, she leaned forward, pulling me into a kiss. The vanilla taste of her lips intoxicates my senses as she drops my bag to the floor to put her hand on my lower back. I hum into the kiss, pulling away and smirking. "Hmm. I don't think friends do that." I say. "Shut up." She mumbles, pushing me forward until my back hits the door. "Maybe...that's because we're more than just friends." She whispers into my ear, before pulling back slightly. I turn my head and watch as her hand slowly snakes from behind me to the door knob where she locks the door. "Now, where were we?" She asks, pulling me back into the kiss.
"Yeah...she..she didn't bore me that much." I mumble to her mom as she smiles at me. "Oh, good. Spill some secrets then? Or gossip about any cute boys in your year, hmmm?" Her mom asks. "Mom!" Max shouts, rolling her eyes. Well, she couldn't be more wrong.... "Okay! Okay!" Max's mom says before laughing. "I have to go anyway." She says, heading to the door. "Don't cause trouble, girls!" She says before leaving.
After her departure, the house is left in an odd silence as Max and I eye each other. "She couldn't have been wronger in her life." Max says before we burst into laughter. "C'mon. Let's get your board." Max says, pulling me out of the house. We did a quick stop by my place, picking up a few things and my board before heading back to Max's house where it had better roads to skate on. After an hour or so of skating, I sat down on the sidewalk, watching the redhead attempt to do a trick...and failing.
I watch and laugh as Max fails. "Shit!" She says as she fails again, this time sending her board rolling down the street. I stand to help, until I notice that it is rolling towards someone. El kicks it up into her hands before walking towards Max and handing it to her. This is...unusual. They've always respected each other, but never actually...spent time together? "Hi." El says, handing the board back. Max takes it slowly, confused as she replies. "Hi?"
El looks at me and smiles awkwardly before looking between us. "C-can we talk?" She asks

I am lying down on Max's bed, watching as she paces while El tells us her story about Mike. "And then he said he missed me, and then he just hung up." The brunette says, watching Max walk back and forth, furrowing her eyebrows. "He's a piece of shit." Max mutters, causing El to sit up slightly. "What?" She asks. Max turns to face her, anger on her face. "Mike doesn't have jackshit to do today and his nana obviously isn't sick." She says, sitting on the bed next to El and I. She looks her in the eye before speaking. "I guarantee you, him and Lucas are playing Atari right now." She says.
"But friends don't lie..." El says, confusion and hurt on her face. "Yeah, well, boyfriends do." I say. "All the time." Max adds. "How do you know?" El asks. "You don't have a boyfriend." She says to us. I shrug, nodding slightly. She got me there. "No, but I had friends who did. And I know through them" Max says, laying down and intertwining our hands. "I just don't get it." I say, looking at the brunette. "Mike isn't usually like that." I say. "And I've known him for more than five years." I add. Max sighs, shrugging. "Clearly something happened, which he isn't telling El about." She says. "Look. You're going to stop calling him. You're going to ignore his calls. As far as you're concerned? He doesn't exist." Mas says, smirking.
"Doesn't exist?" El repeats Max's words as the redhead nods. "He treated you like garbage. You're gonna treat him like garbage. Give him a taste of his own medicine." Max says, smirking. "Give him...the medicine." El repeats again. This girl is adorable beyond words. Max just nods happily, clearly excited to get her through this. "Mhmm. And if he doesn't fix this, if he doesn't explain himself?" Max says, clearly getting to her conclusion. "Dump his ass." She concludes.
El sits there, wide eyed but clearly....excited. I turn to Max as she smiles. "Remind me to never get on your bad side." I mutter. Max smacks my arm lightly before standing up. "Come on." She says, holding her hands to pull the brunette to her feet. "Where are we going?" El asks us. I grin, walking to the door. "To have some fun, El. There's more to life than stupid boys." I say, opening the door.
We all run out of the house, to the nearest bus stop before hopping on and heading to the best place in town for fun. Starcourt Mall.

We get off the bus and Max and I smile as El looks at the building, astonished. "So? What do you think?" Max asks. El's gaze lowers to the crowd milling outside the mall and her gaze turns worried. "Hey, Hey. What's wrong?" I ask, stepping in front of her and holding her hands. "Too many people. Against the rules." El says, scared. "Seriously? You have superpowers. What's the worst that could happen?" Max says, grinning. She then grabs El's hand, and the brunette grabs mine, causing a chain as Max drags us into the mall.
We run into the mall, stopping at the centre as El looks around. "So, what should we do first?" Max asks. El just looks at us blankly. "Max, she hasn't gone shopping before." I say. "Well then, I guess we're gonna have to try everything. Come on." She says, grabbing us both, one hand each and pulling us to the nearest shop, The Gap.
We look around at different outfits. Max kept on taking a few and holding it against me multiple times, saying I'd look good in specific ones. El walks around, clearly lost but intrigued as she stares up at a display. "You like that one?" I ask, grinning. "How do I know what I like?" El asks me. "You try different things on. Some you'd like, some you won't...but you keep on trying until you find things that feel like you." I say. "Yeah. Not Hopper, Not Mike, you." Max adds, resting her chin on my shoulder. Not going to lie, it feels like Max and I are parents to a kid who just got released into the world, and I'm living for it.
