New book! New book! New book!
P.S. Make sure to read the first book "California to Hawkins" first!!Summer of 1985.
Things have been...pretty good since the events of last year. Other than spending a bit of money to afford two more walkies, everything has been great.
Today, we had plans to watch a movie later tonight. Until then, I am laying on my bed, humming to the song playing on the radio while Maxine Mayfield is laid on my stomach, legs dangling off my bed. She's reading a Wonder Woman comic book. She would occasionally join in, singing along with the words to the song with me before going silent and reading again. It was very cute.
Since the Snow Ball, Max and I had gotten a lot closer romantically. We weren't officially together, but we were getting there, I hope.
Max and I walked out from behind the stage and found our friends. They all grinned at us. "What?" Max asks. "Did you two kiss?" Lucas asked, wiggling his eyebrows. I roll my eyes. "Wouldn't you want to know." I say. "We saw you two." I say to Mike and Eleven. "You guys are cute." I add. "As are you two." Mike says. Dustin suddenly appears behind Max and I, putting his arms over both our shoulders. "It's official. Everyone here had a romantic breakthrough except for me." He says. I laugh, pushing him off me. "Just wait. I bet in the summer, you're going to meet someone.' I say. "I'm holding you to that, Y/N." He says.
I smile to myself as I watch the redhead on my lap furrow her eyebrows. "What's going on?" I ask, leaning forward to peek at the comic. She turns it away from my eyes, scrunching her nose. "No." She says. "Awww, why not?" I ask, pouting at her. "You don't even read comics!" She says. I don't. Well, more like I have other things to do. "You're so stupid." I say to her, She gets up, off my lap, turning to look at me. "Excuse me? I am not!" She exclaims "Prove it." I say, smirking. She just sits there, staring at me for a moment before her lips twitch into a smile. "What?" I ask. Why was she smiling like that?
She leans forward, capturing my lips into a kiss. I hum into the kiss, wanting to question her but also not wanting to stop. Once she does stop, I raise an eyebrow. "What was that for?" I ask. She smiles innocently. "If I'm stupid, then I guess you shouldn't be with me." She says, shrugging and moving to get off the bed. "Wait, no." I say, reaching out and pulling her back onto the bed, falling onto my lap again. "Hey!" She says, giggling. Instead of saying anything, I lean down and kiss her again. The light, innocent kiss soon turns into a heated make out session. Both of us enjoying it too much to stop it. She slowly sits up, not breaking the kiss before leaning forward, forcing me to lie back. She breaks the kiss when the song changes, singing along lightly while still on top of me. "I'm lost in admiration, could I need you this much?" She sings, looking at me before leaning in and resuming our make out session.
It isn't long before I hear a knock at my door and my mom's voice floats in. "Okay lovebirds, it's time to go. Lucas refuses to stop calling your home phone and it's driving me nuts." She says. Oh yeah, I turned off my walkie. We stop kissing, looking at each other with a grin. "Looks like we have to go." She says, still not moving off of me. "One more?" I ask, giving her puppy eyes. She rolls her eyes and leans down again, giving me a quick kiss before getting off me. Once she's off my bed, she starts dancing around my room to the song, singing. "Something happens and I'm head over heels. Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart." She sings. I walk to the radio, turning it off and she snaps her head at me. "Hey!" She says. I grin, shrugging before dashing out the door, Max at my heels.

We arrive at the new mall to see Lucas and Will already there. "Finally!" he says. I roll my eyes, getting off my bike. "Yeah yeah. At least we aren't late." Max says. "Not like someone" I say, meaning Mike. Max helps put it away as she rode on the back of my bike. "How long do you think he'll take this time?" I ask them.
After a while, we spot the raven haired boy racing over on his bike. He skids to a stop in front of us before jumping off. "You're late." Lucas says. "Again." I add. "Sorry!" Mike says, parking his bike. He scrambles to park it, putting it on the rack before turning and starting to walk. "We're going to miss the previews!" Will complains. "Yeah, if you guys keep whining about it. Let's go!" He says. Lucas mocks him as we walk and I nudge him. "Stop talking, dude." I say, laughing.
We enter the bustling mall as the neon colours glare at us from all the shop windows. "Let me guess, you were busy..." Lucas starts before mimicking a make out session. "Oh yeah, real mature, Lucas." Mike says before grinning. "Plus, don't act like they weren't doing it too." He adds, nodding at Max and I. I glare at him as Max flushes pink. "At least we weren't late." I say, smiling at the redhead. Mike spins to face us as we get on the escalators. "So you were making out!" He says. I shove him lightly, making him fall a bit and apologies to the person in front of him.
"You guys are all like 'Oh my god. I wish we make out forever and never go to see our friends'" Lucas says in a sing-songy voice. "Lucas, stop." Max says, slapping his arm. "Will thinks it's funny" He says, nodding at the younger boy who is chuckling. "Because it is." the boy says. Mike starts running down the escalators, bumping into a few people and apologizing. I'm glad he was in the front because he basically paves a path for us. We get off the escalators, walking around a corner. "Yeah, it's so funny I want to spend romantic time with my girlfriend." Mike says, rolling his eyes.
"Yeah well Y/N is spending romantic time with her girlfriend." Lucas says. I flush as he says that. Max and I weren't official and haven't called each other 'girlfriends' yet. I didn't say anything about it though, and neither did Max. I just put my arm around the redhead's shoulders, pulling her into me as we walk. Now in the food court, we pass by Lucas' little sister, Erica. "Watch it, Nerds!" She shouts after she spots us bumping into people. "Isn't it past your bedtime?" Lucas asks her as we pass by. "Isn't it time you died?" She retorts, making me laugh under my breath. "Psycho!" Lucas says back. "Butthead!" Erica shouts as we pass her already. "Mall rat!" Lucas shouts back. Oh my god this kid just won't stop. "Fart Face!" Erica shouts. Instead of replying, Lucas decides to blow raspberry, acting like a fucking five year old.
I grab his arm, pulling him as we approach Scoops Ahoy. "Now that was mature." I mutter, dragging him inside. We approach the counter and I step forward, offering Robin a smile before slamming my hand on the bell, ringing it as much as I can. She sighs, holding my wrist to stop me. "Come on, Y/N. Stooop." She says. I shake my head, going to ring it again but she just holds my other wrist too. "Okay!" She says, turning her head. "Hey, Dingus! Your children are here!" She shouts. She lets go of my wrist and I step back a little, watching as the sliding window between the front and the back opens to reveal Steve. He sighs at the sight of us. "Again? Seriously?" He asks. We just smile innocently at him as he nods, turning to Robin. "Hey, no. This one..." He says, pointing to me. "This one's your child too." He says before leading us to the back.
He opens the service door, ushering us into the corridors. "I swear, if anyone hears about this-" He starts before we cut in. "We're dead!" We repeat the words he had said many times before. We hear the door slam shut behind us as we run down the corridor to the cinemas. I look out, not seeing anyone and nodding to the others as we sneak out and to the house that was playing 'Day of the Dead'. We find seats inside. Mike, Will and Lucas in the row above us as Max and I sat a row below. Will distributes the snacks he had brought as the film starts. "See, Lucas? We made it." Mike says. "We missed the previews." Lucas complains. Max chuckles and turns in her seat, shooting a smirk at the boy. "Still made it...Fart face" She mocks. I laugh as she turns back around and I offer her some chocolate. She opens her mouth and I put the chocolate into her mouth as she smiles a thank to me.
Not long after it starts, the projector seems to flash before the whole area is plunged into darkness. "What?" I ask loudly as the others all shout their disappointment. "It's like it was meant to be." I hear Max say from beside me before I feel a peck on my cheek. Before I could return the kiss, the lights came back on, film displayed on the screen. I glare at the girl as she smiles innocently before turning to the screen. The movie goes on and I reach under the handle bar, grabbing Max's hand before she intertwines our fingers. This is all I wanted.
