Daily Life At The Ministry
Chapter 4!
Four Months Later
The months had passed by quickly at the Ministry, things carried on has normal. Nihil continued his role has Papa, his endless workload kept him away from his family responsibilities. His children were growing up without him, but that thought never crossed his mind. He saw them in the evenings for dinner, he sometimes visited them before they went to bed. He tried his best with them, but he couldn't be everywhere around the unholy church. He had many things to do in the daylight hours.
Nihil was standing at the window, his gaze lingering on the garden below his office. The garden was bare, the winter months were now upon them. He was watching his favourite ghoul with Daughter from his office window, he had finally found out her name. The letter he had thrown away that night when they had found her on the doorstep had contended her name, he just had read it properly because he had been drinking heavily that night. Her name was Albany, her Mother must have named her before she left her outside of the Ministry. He would have named her differently, but he couldn't be bothered to rename her since she already had a chosen name. His favourite ghoul was caring for her now, he was taking her for an afternoon walk around the garden. His promise to Primo about not sleeping with anymore of the nannies had been broken, the temptation had been too strong. He couldn't help himself, they always reminded him of Sister. He missed his former lover dearly, the years had past but he still longed for her. They could have been happy if she had given him a second chance, but that was in the past now.
Sighing to himself he soon returned to his desk, sitting down in front of his typewriter he took a swig of his whisky. He placed his glass down and cupped his hands together while he listened to the clock ticking in his office, he then rested his chin on his hands. He needed a break from his paperwork, he was getting a headache. It was 2pm, he had been working nonstop since 9am. He enjoyed being Papa, but the workload that came with his duties could be tiring at times. His attention was soon caught by Secondo dragging his Brother Terzo passed the open doorway, his youngest Son had his arms outstretched at his sides. Nihil got to his feet and rested his hands on his desk while watched them disappear from his sight, he was now curious about what they were doing.
" Secondo, what are you doing?!" He asked.
' Playing!" Secondo replied.
" Playing what?!" He asked.
" Hiding the dead body!" Secondo replied.
" Terzo is still alive, right?!" He asked.
" I'm alive!" Terzo yelled.
" Good, very good!" He said before he turned his attention back towards his paperwork. " Carry on!"
" Okay, Papa!" Secondo said.
Nihil sat back down on his chair and continued to sign his paperwork, he still had the clergy finances to go through yet. Resting his pen against his bottom lip he read through one of his documents, but the ringing of his telephone caught his attention. He wasn't expecting any phone calls today, all of his scheduled over the phone appointments weren't until next week. His hand reaching for the handset he answered the phone, holding it against his ear he cleared his throat before he spoke.
" Hello, this is Papa Emeritus speaking." He said.
" Nihil?"
Nihil froze, he recognised the person's voice on the other end of the telephone. It was Sister Imperator, it had been years since he had heard her sweet voice. He had no idea why she was calling him, he wasn't meant to be communicating with her after the incident back in 1969. She wrote to him sometimes, but it was normally abusive or spiteful letters. Bringing his pen to his lips he leaned back against his chair, he readied himself for whatever Sister wanted to talk to him about over the telephone.
" Sister, it's very nice to hear your voice again." He said.
" I can't say the same thing to you, but we need to talk about my Sister's of Sin!"
" Oh, what about them?" He asked.
" Don't play dumb with me, Nihil. You've been sleeping with my Sisters! How could you do that?! Especially since they were there to take care of your children!"
" They never seemed to complain." He said with a smirk. " Some came back for seconds or even thirds. You know what I'm like Sister, I am an animal in the sack! You more than anyone should remember those long passionate nights we use to spend together, I always knew how to make you..."
" You disgusting man! How can you be so vulgar?!"
" I don't know, but what do you want?!" He asked with a sigh. " I have things to do, my children need me."
" I highly doubt that, but I'm calling to tell you we're cutting you off!"
" Cutting me off from what?" He asked.
" Nannies, do you know how many Nannies you've employed at the Italian Ministry?"
" Erm, no..." He replied.
" Fifty-eight in the last five years!"
" Wow, that sounds fun!" He smiled.
" You... argh! Just don't try to hire anymore Nannies through the Clergy!"
" Oh come on, Sister!" He sighed while he sat up straight on his chair. " It was harmless fun, it just happened sometimes. Think of my children, who is going to take care of them while I'm working?! Would you deprive my innocent children of some Motherly love?"
" I'm more concerned of..."
" Sister, I went toot toot on the rug!"
" Who was that?" He asked.
" No one, this conversation is over!"
" Sister, do not hang up on me!" He said.
The telephone went dead, she had hung up on him. Nihil had no idea who had interrupted their conversation, but the voice sounded like it belonged to a child. He placed the headset back on the reviver, throwing his pen into his desk he brought his head to his hands. He kicked his desk hard with the side of his foot, he couldn't believe what was happening. No childcare meant his children would have to take care of themselves. Primo was old enough to look after himself, but his young children needed a nanny. He had screwed up once again, he had brought this upon himself with his randy behaviour. He had no idea what he was going to do, who was going to take care of his children now?
