Yok wasn't sure if he believed in destiny and soulmates until the day he met Mai.

He had seen his friends and even his parents telling stories of how they met their soulmates but all that sounded too surreal and a bit scary if he was going to tell the truth. All of this because only a few people in that world were blessed to meet their soulmate, however they also knew when they were fated to be separated from them. That could be due to their own will or by other reasons; people couldn't predict what would be the reason, but they knew the date because they were born with that information tattooed on their skin as a birthmark.

In Yok's case, his mark was a signal that it would happen on September 23rd, 2023, less than 2 years from the present. It made him anxious because he had never dated anyone so far and was scared to think that each passing day meant that he had a little less time to spend with his supposed to be soulmate.

But that soon changed thanks to a dog.

Tawan, Yok's dog, had run away from his backyard when Yok was about to leave home to go to college, making the student drop his backpack on the sidewalk and ran after his little buddy.

The naughty cloud only stopped when a handsome man grabbed him. Yok was baffled watching the scene because Tawan wasn't the type of dog to let strangers pet him, but there they were.

"Hi! This is my dog!", he waved at the man holding the dog.

The handsome man only then noticed Yok staring at him. He kinda got distracted by the cute dog, but after laying his eyes on the pretty boy before him, he almost forgot he was even holding the animal in the first place.

"Pardon?", he let out confused by why that angel was talking to him.

"The dog is mine! Thanks for catching him, but I need to go now!", Yok tried to reach for the fluffy package, but the man stepped back, preventing him from retrieving Tawan.

"Wait a minute! How will I know he's really yours?", the man raised an eyebrow to Yok.

"Well, he recognizes me! See… Baby! My love, please come with Phi Yok, Nong!", Yok used a sweet tone to talk to his dog, but apparently, Tawan had other plans and barked at him. Tawan. Barked. At. His. Own. Father.

"Ungrateful child! How can you do this to meee~!", Yok whined. "I'm gonna be late for class and that's all your fault!", he pouted so cutely that the man pitied him.

"Okay, okay! Let's do it like this: I'm seeing the dog's name on the leash. If you give the correct answer, I'll give you the dog!", the man proposed and seeing no other choice, Yok agreed.

"Okay, his name is Tawan!", Yok replied firmly.

The man held the dog a bit more, but then handed him to its owner. "I'm sorry, I just had to check! This is a nice boy, please take care of him, okay?"

"I will, don't worry!", Yok replied petting Tawan.

"I was talking to the dog, but I think it serves you too, right?", the man's smile spread on his face making his look even more astonishing. Yok felt his cheeks getting warm and didn't hesitate: he grabbed Tawan and ran from there back home.

Even hours after that encounter, Yok's heart thumped hard just by recording the event. "What is going on with you, huh?" and "He definitely was flirting with me!", were thoughts that only made him blush harder.
