Or, he would have been, if not for the loud sound of a gun firing piercing the silence.

Everyone span to see Nancy Wheeler holding a hand gun, which was aimed right at Jason's temple, with Robin standing close behind her.

'You have 5 seconds before I shoot.' Nancy said firmly. It was abundantly clear to everyone that she was not fucking around.

And so, they all scattered, with Jason throwing Eddie a deathly glare before disappearing into the gloom of the deeper woods.

Nancy brought the gun to her side and rushed to Steve to check if he was ok.
'Oh my god, what happened?' She said, scared. We heard shouting and we though it might have been...' She whispered something in Steve's ear, and he whispered something back, which seemed to reassure Nancy. Eddie frowned, and after a few moments he piped up,

'Oi, lovebirds, I'd appreciate it if someone helped me over here?' Eddie said, half sarcastic, half pleading. Steve looked up at Eddie, seemingly only just remembering that he was there. He strode over to the base of the tree, and started to pull himself up.

While Steve was athletic, he certainly wasn't as nimble or graceful as Eddie, so it took him a while to climb the tree.

Eddie's gaze wandered to Steve's arms. They were muscular, certainly, but not bulky...

'Munson? You there?' Steve waved a hand in front of Eddie's face, jolting him sharply back to reality.
'Oh, yeah. Now will you please get this knife out of my jacket?'

The tree was certainly not roomy, so Steve had to position himself in such a way that he was practically sitting on Eddie's lap. He leant in to attempt to dislodge the knife from the trunk.
'Damn, it's really lodged in there.' Steve whispered breathily next to Eddie, a little grunt escaping him as he yanked at the handle.

Fuck.

Eddie cursed internally as a light blush spread over his cheeks. This needed to stop, before he fell even further for Steve...

Steve's POV

Eddie didn't seem worried about the situation, that he was stuck up in a tree, or that he was still bleeding... Oh, shit.

'Eddie! You're, um, bleeding again.' He rummaged around in his pockets for something, but Eddie stopped him.
'Don't worry, I've got it.' He produced a black handkerchief from his back left pocket, and dabbed at the trickling blood.
'Why do you always carry that thing around?' Steve enquired as he went back to tugging at the knife.
'That's big boy stuff, Steve. I'll... tell you when you're older.' He chuckled, glancing down at Robin. She smiled back up at him reassuringly. Steve shrugged to himself.

Finally, he gave the knife one last yank, and it popped out of the thick bark. Steve wobbled back, unbalanced by the sudden give of the knife, and teetered on the edge of the platform-like nook that they were seated upon.
'Steve!' Nancy and Robin shouted up in fear.

Steve reached out for anything to grab onto, and he made contact with Eddie's cool hands, which held him just over the edge. Steve gazed up into Eddie's deep doe eyes. He forgot where he was for a few seconds. He just got lost in Eddie's stare.
'Hey, princess. Need a hand?' Eddie enquired jokingly, pulling Steve up so he was chest to chest with the taller boy.

No ones POVs

Blushes crept across both of the boy's faces as they simply stood there, each gazing into the other's eyes.

'Um.... can you guys, maybe, like, get down so we can go home?' Nancy uttered up to the boys, who both promptly snapped out of their reveries. Steve gestured for Eddie to go first, and he obliged.

Steve's POV

Steve watched the older clamber gracefully down the tree. He was just beginning to process the events that had taken place only moments ago.

No-ones POV

Once both boys were safely on the ground again, they made their way over to Nancy's car. She flung the back door open, before cursing under her breath.
'Shit, I'm really sorry guys, I forgot that I was lending my bike to my cousin and that I brought it back in my car, so there's no room in the backseats...' Nancy rambled, panicky.
'It's fine, I can bring someone home in my car, it's just in the car park.' Steve said nonchalantly. At Steve words, Robin stuck up her hand and shouted,
'Not it! Sorry, Steve, but I'm going home with Nance, we have a project to finish up on. Guess that means you're stuck with Steve, sorry Eddie!' She turned to smirk at Eddie, who just rolled his eyes at her. She retorted by tapping on the car roof,
'// - - . / . - / - . - - //'
Eddie fake gasped, and promptly tapped back,
'// . . - / . . - - - //'
Robin giggled, and waved a goodbye to the confused looking Steve, before hopping into the car. An equally confused looking Nancy simply shrugged at Steve and got into her side, before driving off into the night.

'Well, looks like it's just you and me now, Harrington.' Eddie grinned cheekily up at Steve, who just groaned and began to walk briskly off towards his car.
'Woah woah, wait up Stevie!' Cried Eddie, jogging to catch up with him.
