Steve's POV

When Robin and Eddie walked into the food hall, they both looked like nervous wrecks. They gestured quickly for Steve to join them at the edge of the lunch hall.
'Hey, Henderson, I'll be back, just stay put, ok?' Steve said to a frizzy haired boy who sat next to him at one of the tables.
'Sure. Just so you know though, I will be eating your cookie.' Steve rolled his eyes and jogged over to the other side of the hall, where Robin and Eddie had situated themselves at a table in the corner.

Steve sat down next to Robin, who seemed even more nervous than the last time he had looked.
'Where were you guys? I had to cover for you in math, and you know how Mrs Howe gets.' Steve grumbled. Robin looked to Eddie, seemingly trying to prompt him into saying something. He sighed, and turned to fully face Steve.
'Steve. Has, um, Jason talked to you at all today?' Steve cocked his head to the side confusedly.
'Um, no, why? Is he like, spreading rumours about you or something? Even if he was, I wouldn't listen to anything that prick had to say.'

Eddie's POV

At this comment, Eddie smiled slightly. It was nice to know that someone had his back, even if that someone was... well, Steve.

'He, uh, has something of ours. And we need to get it back.'
'And I factor into this how exactly?' Steve responded, confused.
'We just wanted to make sure he hadn't tried to tell you anything different.' Robin replied quickly. Steve nodded.
'What did he take?' He inquired.
'It was a, uh, tape.'
Steve raised his eyebrows.
'And what's on this 'tape'?'  Robin coughed awkwardly, and a blush spread over Eddie's cheeks.
'Nothing of, uh, major importance, it'd just be nice to have it back.'
'Right...' Steve replied, clearly not convinced.

Suddenly, Robin leapt up from her chair.
'Shitshitshit, sorry guys, I forgot about band, got to go.' She turned her gaze to focus on Eddie. 'I'll meet you later, ok?' Eddie nodded, and Robin dashed off.

'Hey.'
Eddie jumped, as Steve had come to sit next to him while he was distracted with Robin.
'Jesus, don't do that Harrington!'
'Sorry, sorry. I just-' Steve leant into Eddie, so that he could speak at a whisper without being heard.
'I just wanted to say that, you know, since we're friends, you can tell me what's really going on with the tape.' The blush on Eddie's face grew a deeper shade of pink.

Were he and Steve... friends?

Dustin's POV

Gazing across the lunch hall, Dustin squinted at Steve and Eddie.
'Are they kissing?' He inquired to a tall, curly haired boy who sat next to him.
'Probably. Pass me another fry will you.' Dustin sighed, and pushed Steve's plate towards him.
'Can't believe they both ditched us.' He sighed, leaning on his hand dejectedly.

Eddie's POV

'We're... friends?' Eddie questioned, eyes wide. Steve moved away from him, a confused look on his face.
'I mean, I thought so? Unless, you're too good to be friends with me, prince Eddie.' Eddie's blush deepened once again at the nickname.

He was fucking terrible at hiding his feelings for Steve. Lucky for him though, Steve was... well, pretty oblivious.

'Ok. So we're friends now. Does that mean I have to drive you to school and buy you snacks?' Eddie inquired jokingly. Steve chuckled,
'I wouldn't be opposed to it. But, seriously, what's going on? Is Jason, like, blackmailing you or something?' Eddie grimaced.
'Um. Yeah. But it's nothing Robin and I can't fix-' Steve cut him off,
'Nope. We're in this together. When are we meeting him? Can I bring Bella?'
'Who the fuck is Bella?' Scoffed Eddie. Steve looked at him like it was the strangest question he had ever heard.
'My cricket bat? Once I used her to beat up a demido-'

'A thief!' Dustin and Mike had just walked up, and they cut Steve off quickly, both glaring at him, trying to get him to shut up. Steve realised his mistake, and desperately tried to cover his tracks,
'Yeah! A thief... that, um... tried to steal Henderson's bike!' Eddie looked unconvinced.
'I'll tell if you will.' Eddie smirked. Dustin glared at Steve once more, willing him not to speak.
'Sorry Eds, no can do.' Steve shrugged at Eddie.

He wished that Steve would stop using these nicknames for him. It just didn't feel fair. Not that it was Steve's fault of course. No, it was his own. It was his own fault for letting himself fall for a straight boy.

For Steve Harrington.

Dustin looked at him oddly, as if he knew exactly what he was thinking. Eddie quickly tried to change up the conversation,
'Sorry kids, but I won't be able to make it to the campaign tonight, Steve and I have got important, adult things to get on with.' Steve snorted, and Dustin raised an eyebrow. Mike carried on eating Steve's fries.
'Detective work, Henderson, detective work.' Eddie reiterated exasperatedly. The bell rang, and Steve and Dustin rose from their seats, still giggling to each other. Eddie tapped Steve on the shoulder, causing him to turn to face him.
'Meet me and Robin just outside the old cemetery. We'll explain the plan then.' Steve nodded, and with a quick wave goodbye to Eddie, he ran off to rejoin Dustin.

Eddie ran his hands through his long, curly hair. He had promised himself that he wouldn't fall any further for Steve. And my god, was that plan not working.
