~Amelia's POV~

After the briefing, the Scouts and the Garrisons split in two. The Garrisons had a long night ahead of preparing the first line of defence against Rod Reiss. Whereas the Scouts were pulled aside by Erwin, and taken to gear up with 3DMG gear.

As we were about to leave, I opened my mouth to speak to Erwin, tapping his shoulder to get his attention. "Commander-"

"She can't use 3DMG gear," Levi cut me off. I glared at him, wondering why he felt the need to tell him for me.

"Well, that is a problem. She can't use it at all?" Erwin pondered.

"During our training together, she's only practised balancing. She's never had any actual experience. Plus, look at her. I don't think she'd be useful even if she could," Levi motioned up and down my body with his hand, stopping to highlight my crutches.

"I think you're right, Levi. Amelia, sit this one out. We should be fine without you," Erwin dismissed me.

I wasn't stupid enough to argue back as I wobbled, having to lean onto my crutch to help with my balance. Instead, I felt disappointed that I wouldn't be there to help, more so that I couldn't help. I was starting to get sick of feeling inadequate and always needing help from someone else. After all of this passes, I'm going to request to be trained and become a proper Scout; to become someone worthy of their spot on Levi's squad.

"Alright, Commander," I gave in. "Good luck with the battle, I'll go and let myself rest. Are there any available rooms where I can stay?" I inquired, finally feeling the fatigue that had been gnawing its way through my body since I got injured.

"Yes, they're located in the West wing of the building. Head over there and there should be someone around to assign you to one," Erwin waved me off, eager to get on with his plan.

"Thank you, and good luck, everyone," I said again, to everyone this time. I had to give as much luck as I could. No one was allowed to die in my absence.

"Wait, Commander!" I stopped him, gathering everyone's attention back onto me. I changed my mind. I wasn't going to rest whilst my comrades were risking their lives, even if it was just helping with the heavy lifting. "Even though I was injured, at least let me help Hange. They're hurt too and will need it."

Hange furrowed their eyebrows at me, placing down the box in their hands with a wince. "No, Amelia. You're worse off than I am. Let yourself rest," they insisted.

"I'm fine. Look, I don't even need the crutch anymore." I demonstrated the crutch from my side and placed it off to one side. Then, I demonstrated how I could now walk again. There was a little pain, but it was bearable.

"Just let her do it," Eren butted in. "She'll be fine," Eren spoke as someone who has similar healing abilities to me. Luckily, that was sufficient enough to satisfy Erwin.

"Fine, but we don't have any more time for idle chatter. Everyone gather around whilst I inform you of my plan," Erwin commanded sternly.

I joined Hange at their side, earning a glare from Levi. What was his problem? Half an hour ago, he was insisting that he carry me to the infirmary and now he was giving me dirty looks? Would I ever understand this man? I doubted it. Instead of letting it bother me, I shook it off, focusing on what Erwin was saying.

"Before I describe my plan, I must first ask Historia something." He started, diverting everyone's attention onto her.

Historia mustered up her newly found confidence, puffing her chest out proudly. "Yes, Commander, what is it?"

"I have come up with two different plans. We can either try to save your father or... We kill him. As he's your relative, I've decided that the choice is up to you," Erwin stated, being considerate of someone else for once. I hope the shock wasn't too evident to my face. But then it dawned on me, that this was a test. Her choice here mattered as it would reflect what kind of ruler she would be. One that valued the fate of humanity above all else, or one that was selfish.
