"Get inside!" Matt yelled to them in a whisper. He scanned up and down his street to make sure none of his neighbors were out.
They all hurried in. It was a chaotic scene. Gabby was sobbing uncontrollably as Phil took her into the bathroom. Matt helped Casey inside.
"I got her." Shannon said to him, leading Casey to the upstairs bathroom.
Matt was grateful. He needed to think. They had just killed a man. He was an evil man who wanted to harm Matt's friends and his son, but they had still taken a life.
Matt found Shaun. "Call or text Bill right now. Tell him we need him here, alone, no Kate. No exceptions." He ordered.
Shaun nodded and got right to it. Phil walked out of the downstairs bathroom. He ran his hand through his hair.
"Jesus fucking Christ, man. What the fuck just happened?" He asked. "What did we just do?"
"We killed him." Matt said bluntly, staring his best friends right in the eyes.
Saying it out loud made it feel real.
"Yeah no shit." Phil replied. "What now? Gab threw up in the bushes, can't they find DNA or some shit?"
"I don't know!" Matt yelled. "I'm not with the CSI, I don't know how this shit works."
"Guys chill the fuck out. I think we're good." Shaun said.
"Shaun, do we look good?" Phil asked, pointing to his blood stained shirt. "I think I got fucking brains on me."
"Okay, well not exactly good, but definitely not bad." Shaun said. "I just meant I think we're good with the police."
"Take your clothes off." Matt told Phil. "Shaun get a black trash bag." He took his own shirt off as well. "You got clothes here?" He asked Phil.
"Yeah." He replied.
"Get a shower, put all the clothes you and Gab wore tonight in the trash bag. I'll tell the others. We have to burn it all." Matt instructed.
He went upstairs to check in on Casey. She was with Shannon in the bathroom, sitting on the edge of the tub in her underwear. She didn't even look up when Matt looked in. Shannon stepped out into the hallway to talk to Matt.
"She's not good." She whispered.
"Yeah Shan, I figured she wouldn't be, she just blew a guys fucking head off." He whispered.
Shannon gave him the kind of look that said, 'well what did you expect?'
Matt hadn't planned this. He hadn't thought of the aftermath if they actually killed Daniel. Now they were all panicking, and it was his job to calm everyone down. Everything they had feared about Daniel was true.
"Thank you for taking care of her." Matt said to Shannon.
"Of course. You don't have to thank me for that."
"Are YOU okay?" He asked. With everything that happened he forgot she just had a knife to her throat.
"Yeah, I'm good. Fuck him, he got what he deserved." She replied.
"You were great out there. That was quick thinking with the knife."
"I didn't know what else to do, I just went on instinct." Shannon said.
Shannon was eerily calm for taking part in someone's murder. Out of the whole group she was holding it together the best.
"Tell Casey to take a shower. Shaun has a bag downstairs, put anything you wore tonight in it, Casey too." Matt instructed.
Shannon nodded. "You get a hold of Bill?" She asked.
"Not yet." Everyone was walking all over the house trying to collect themselves and clean up.
Matt went into his room and showered. In fact, all three bathroom showers were now in use. He felt disgusting. Daniel's blood and whatever else exploded from his face was all over him. He scrubbed his skin hard, making sure he got rid of any evidence that this night ever happened.
When he got downstairs, Phil, Gab and Shaun were cleaned up and waiting. Gab sat on the floor hugging her knees. Her hair was still wet. She had changed into comfy clothes, wearing gray sweats and a white hoodie. Phil had his arm around her trying to calm her down.
Shaun looked down at his phone again and shook his head at Matt. Nothing from Bill.
