Hillary paced up and down her magnanimous room_her temperature above normal and her pulse rising significantly. She hadn't felt anything like this before_as she begun to wonder and pity the people who lived their entire life in fear. Just this mere taste of it and she was suffocating and dehydrating haphazardly. She had to tell her mother, she would understand. She always does, she loved her. Then another voice in her head didn't want her to, the voice thought it was too risky and tempting. It could make her mother dislike her forever like she did Lilac. She couldn't imagine a life similar to her unfortunate little sister_a life like that would only not be distressful to someone like her but also tormenting and suicidal.
The almond smell of her room didn't feel welcoming any longer to her sensitive nostrils. She wanted to be out of the room and the house. It didn't feel welcome anymore after what had just taken place. Then she thought about Nick, the idea of calling him and spending the night with him sounded wonderful and thrilling but not plausible. Nick wasn't that kind of a boyfriend one could just call in the middle of the night to ask to come spend the night with. He was just a boyfriend in the outer and public way. Aside that, he must as well be a total stranger to her. Never inviting her to his penthouse and always finding excuse not to be with her_she wanted to scream at the thought of him, and also at the thought of what she had just taken place. She loved him, but she couldn't say same for him. He never even for once confess love to her and what kept on eating her mind and body is the fact that she was even the one who had proposed to him and keeping their relationship going. One thing she just admired about him is his total honesty in the love part albeit it hurt her most times. But all in all, as her mother would say, 'successful people don't need love to make a relationship work.' she wouldn't disturb herself.
Hillary grabbed her phone from her extravagant dressing table and dialed her business partner's number. "Hello Philip." She muttered immediately.
"Hi, what is it again. Don't you know what time of the night it is. And can't you just stick to your almighty perfect looking boyfriend. I seriously don't want to be caught with you again by him. You know as much as I really envy him for his looks and body, I admire him as a business man. A very good one for that matter."
Hillary chuckled, and would have swore and cursed if she hadn't known him all her life. They had attended the same elementary school, high school and university together. But even that didn't make her any acclimatized to his extreme demeanor of saying a lot of words unlike her boyfriend who only said simple and short statement to her. Nick was just perfect and sometimes it just hurt to have someone perfect when you were far from good.
"How many words have you just spoken?", she continued, "do you ever listen to yourself? God! I'm not asking you to be like my perfect boyfriend because I will never see you like the way I see him. You would never be Nick to me." Hillary uttered gingerly not caring how much bitter she was sounding. The guy was just clueless and frivolous for her liking.
"Well! Thank you for that." He cut the call instantly and when was about to throw his phone away to go back to sleep had to pick it up again. What was wrong with this spoilt rich girl at all. She claimed he was clueless and frivolous and still wouldn't let him be, worse seduce him sometimes. If only he didn't have a thing for her, he swore he would have deserted her a very long time ago.
"What do you want again? Aren't you tired of describing your boyfriend to me. Is he even qualified to be your boyfriend? How many times in a week do you see him even?"
Hillary hissed, "your crazy mind times a week."
"Thank you very much Pumpkin"
Hillary yelled from extreme disgust at the name he called her, "I'm not your freaking pumpkin."
"Of course you are!" He wanted to pay her back for insulting him.
"Listen to me carefully, I would have fought you if I didn't have something important to tell you." She looked into the ceiling of her room then passed her expensive manicured hands into her hair. "I need your help, I'm in a deep shit Philip. I need you to come to my place now, I can't stay a night here any longer. Please don't say anything_just come right now! Please."
"Ok fine, I'm already on my way."
Hillary thanked her stars for the first time Philip didn't argue with her. She snatched her bag containing a few of her clothes from her bedside then gashed miserably out of her room knocking right into her mother_luckily not causing any of them to stumble. She was scared, nervous and agitated. Phillip will call it paranoia but she as usual disagreed. Because what she feared or was running away from was really real and existent. And the irregular rise and fall of her heartbeat and pulse was an irrefutable fact of it.
"Are you ok?"
"No! Yes! I mean I'm ok." She stammered, her mother was smart_being an ex soldier and a current FBI agent was the enemy behind that.
"And where are you going with your bag?" Gloria said rawly to her oldest daughter, her pride and happiness. And for the first time in her life looking into Hillary's eyes she couldn't argue any less with her father for hating fate. Hillary looked just like her father, while her unwanted daughter, the one who was never meant to be conceived rather looked very much like her. So much like her, it hurt her so much. She took her entire physique and even sometimes looking at her attitude she could swear she thought and acted just like her_tough and hard to the core.
"Nowhere! No.. I mean I'm...ahh...hmmm....Philip and I have this important business deal to take care of. Yes, business deal to take care." She stumbled.
"Are you sure you are fine, 'cause you really look everything but fine right now. Anyway I thought I heard his car park out there. So I will leave you to go so you don't keep that gentleman waiting." Gloria grinned seriously and intently at her agitated daughter. There was just something wrong with her, more like something was eating her up or she was running away from something. Either ways she just hoped it wasn't that serious as she was making it look.
"Ok" Hillary begun to descend the stairs but stopped when her mother called her name.
"Say hi to him for me."
"Excuse me?" Hillary wasn't sure who the him was. Her mind was just too tainted and preoccupied to think straight.
"Philip! Isn't he the one picking you up?" Gloria raised her eyebrow distressingly, "are you ok at all?"
"Yes mum! I'm fine, just battling menstrual cramp."
"Aww! I'm so sorry about that. Don't you think you should postponed this dealership of yours. It's not like is going to change your life. I mean your father would still remain the richest person in the world, with or without this special dealership of yours." Gloria twisted her head in a motherly way to show her how much she loved her.
