Chapter one: The Demon King's Trickery
A woman was inside his castle, dressed as a man, gripping a sword, and stumbling against the many traps the previous inhabitant had set. She passed by the decaying bodies of men and women that filled the area with a putrid smell, a smell so strong that it clung to whatever passed by. Her movements precise and elegant, as if she was being careful not to wake the dead. Such was a sentiment that helped a person get killed. One had to have a battle mind when it came to dealing with demons, if not, their death was imminent.
He shivered as a dull ache passed beneath his skin, making him itch, and he knew something good was in store.. She was interesting, many wanted to kill him, but never had he seen a woman try to do so. It was always the males that came, screaming that it was his time to die. Loud and often not too bright, they filled whatever castle he was in at the time with unwelcome noise. Always so pitiful, that in the end, he had to torture them to be entertained. The newest one, the girl, she was different.
She obviously thought she was pulling it off, being a man. He wasn't sure if she was actually trying to hide her gender, but being as old as he was, he could tell straight away. She was a girl, through and through. Her faced covered, and her body hidden with armor, he was still able to feel it, the very essence of a female. So vastly different. It was more gentle than those of the men that came, quieter. It excited him, as it had been a long time since someone had tried to kill him. A couple of years if he remembered correctly.
The girl had a bloodlust, but only for one thing; him. He supposed that she was there to destroy him and that he had committed a mortal sin against her, but as to what, he had no idea. He did many things, terrible things, to many people.
He murdered whole villages and even attacked cities if he felt like it. Just recently, perhaps ten or twelve winters past, he'd killed the king of Sycras. That wasn't even the worst he'd done, there were many others. He killed indiscriminately, humans and demons alike. Children, women, and the elderly, none were spared.
He turned his attention back on the girl and noticed that the closer she was getting to his chamber, the more her image was distorted through his scrying mirror. Like someone was shrouding her with a silvery veil. He'd seen it before, a long time before. Knowing what it was, his mood instantly changed to something more than rage.
She had the divine protection of his enemy, reserved only for those that were special. He growled, the words of darkness under his breath. A shot of pure red, darker than blood but lighter than black, shot out, hitting his scrying tool in the process. The smooth glass just shook, as if it was bending. The damn thing didn't break. He hit it again, and once more it shook. After a third time, he gave up and continued to watch the girl from afar.
The girl had been sent there to kill him, the demon king, and she was the honored chosen one of the goddess Eldis. She was the only one in the whole world that had a chance of taking his life. Eldis had an odd sense of humor, sending a little woman to do her bidding. Did she really hate him that much? Just because his only goal in life was to bathe the world in blood.
It was a rotting apple of a world and deserved to be destroyed.
Eldis disagreed and would do anything to keep him from obtaining it. Sending a woman as the hero was just one of the many things she did. He wouldn't be fooled. Whatever she was planning, he would make sure to thwart it. He was pretty damn stubborn and he would never stop trying until he was dead. Eldis never had the pleasure of learning that about him.
