Chapter One: Shion's Pain

The time immediately after Nemis' disappearance was a time Shion could barely remember. The shock of the carnage and his curt goodbye was far too much for her to take in.

Gaitis and the other's had shown up, only to find her crying as she lay in a heap on the ground. She could barely hear them through the ringing in her ears.

She didn't know why it had affected her so badly, she only knew that a void had filled her heart. And although she didn't want to admit it, she'd grown to need Nemis beside her. Something about him drew her in. She didn't exactly know what, but his leaving had broken something inside her.

He'd left her when she'd needed him the most.

It felt like a final goodbye.

And that was what made her so desolate. Shion hated being left alone. Hated being left behind. Hated feeling as though she was weak for needing another person by her side. She'd fought it for years but those feelings had resurfaced when Nemis appeared in her life.

Gaitis understood as soon as he arrived without having to utter a word. He'd been the one to find her, that she did remember. His hazel eyes filled with anguish as he bent over her, checking her wounds and wiping away the tears that would not stop falling. She remembered being lifted up and carried gently and with great care.  She remembered knowing she should be embarrassed and knowing that she really did not care.

The feeling that came from being held tightly is her friends arms was what she remembered the clearest.

It felt wrong.

Why it felt wrong was a mystery. All Shion knew was that she found no comfort in it. Even though she knew she should have felt safe, she felt nothing. It was a hollow feeling that seemed to swallow her whole, and the only thing that kept her soul rooted to her body was the pain from her wounds and the warmth of her blood as it seeped out of her.

It was only when she saw Felli that she lost consciousness.

A trail of blood followed Nemis as he rushed through the forest haphazardly. He could smell it lingering heavily in the air, leading his pursuers straight towards him. He couldn't stop, and so with a laborious amount of concentration, he cauterized his wound and continued to his escape. Ignoring the leaden feeling that filled his body, he weighed his options.

Destroy them and everything else within a half a league or continue biding his time so as to make sure the Hero and the others wouldn't be caught in the blast.

He could only choose the latter.

But that option was soon destroyed. More pursuers had appeared. Humans.

He could only keep running away. He had no other choice.

Shion shot up, and grabbed the collar of the person who hovered over her. With still blurry eyes she tried to discern who it was.

Fyra.

She let go to rub her eyes, but someone grabbed at her hands and stopped her.

"Shion, don't do that." Felli's familiar voice calmed her pulsing heart and she dropped her hands to her lap.
