Prologue
They say... Love has no end. That love continues to live within the depths of our core. That if we failed in love, it doesn't mean that we failed to love. We just failed to care for that love. That love is like hundreds of leaves of a tree.
We need to take care of it. We need to shower it with full tenderness.
But even if we take care of it so tender, it will still wither. Too much of it will scorch it. Too much of it will lead it to be surfeited.
"Elyvia Kelseigh," pagtawag ko sa aking anak matapos ko siyang makitang nag-aayos sa harap ng kaniyang vanity. "Where are you going?"
Was I a ghost?
"Ma! Ha-ha! Akala ko ay nasa office ka pa, ang aga niyo naman pong umuwi." pagbabago niya ng usapan.
"Saan ka pupunta?" I asked again, a bit losing my cool. "And why are you so sneaky?"
"Hmm, sinong ka-date mo? And did this person consult your father about this date?" I interviewed.
"Yes, Mama," tumungo siya at ngumuso. "Si Andy po."
"Okay," I was relieved since I know Andy. I kissed her cheeks. "Be back before 8 so we will still have our dinner together. Enjoy your date." I smiled.
My daughter smiled too and kissed my cheeks. She happily got out of her room and then entered the car that has been waiting for her downstairs. From the looks of it, this Andy is not the typical "May kaya sa buhay" since I saw his car boasting its brand, Mercedes Benz.
I just went back inside when I no longer see the car in my sight. I was alone in this huge house. I was just disturbed when I sensed on my back pocket the vibration of my phone.
It was a text message from my husband, pretty much explaining and saying sorry because he didn't tell me about Elyvia's date today. I said it was okay and had plans for today as well. But it was a lie. I had no plans for today.
Whenever I was alone or had nothing to do, I always visit my Mom at the cemetery. There, I dwell, laugh, smile, and share every small thing that happened in my day. It comforts me, even though I am not sure if she will hear this from the other side.
The other side of life scares me. I do not know what's in there, or if will there be anything there. I just know that there are a lot of people who come and pass through that side- entering a new life or ending now their series of lives.
When I was young, I thought that maybe we have nine lives like cats or we could be reincarnated as other people but in reality, our life was now or never. If you are living today, then make it the best life you could possibly have, because the future wasn't certain. We wouldn't know if He will still give us a chance to live again... to have a purpose again.
"Hi, Mom," I greeted and rested the flowers I bought earlier at the top of her grave. "It's been a while. Was it three months since I last visited?"
The wind blew my hair when I asked so I chuckled. Maybe Mom is beside me or sitting down and resting her back on the big tree beside her grave.
