"Hey, Kayley?"

"Yeah?"

"If we get older and run away, what are we gonna do?"

"There is no 'if', Cara. We will get bigger, and then we'll leave all of this behind."

"Okay...so, when we leave...uh, what's it gonna be like?"

"Wel--um, we'll be happy. We'll go somewhere that's away from Bianca forever."

"Like the forest?"

"Yeah, like that!"

"But Bianca said there are monsters in the forest..."

"And you actually believe her?

"Well..."

"Bianca is a liar."

"But what if there are monsters?"

"I'll protect you! An--and I'll hunt for food and build us a big house!

"Oh! Then I'll cook and stuff!"

"I think you'd be a great cook! You can make us cake for dinner every single day!"

"And cookies! I wanna make cookies!"

"Chocolate cookies!"

"Yeah!"

"See, Cara? It's gonna be alright, as long as we always stick together."

"We'll always stick together then, right, Kayley?"

"Right."

Day 22 - Thursday

"And that concludes today's lesson about the mating ritual of the duck-billed platypus. Have a good rest of your day, Class."

If there was one thing that could make you forget about your problems, it was being shown graphic videos of platypuses getting down and dirty for forty minutes.

As if you weren't mentally screwed enough already.

Even Key was silent as the two of you exited your classroom. You couldn't tell if it was from discomfort or a general loss for words. Probably both.

"Hey!"

A boy was running towards you. He looked familiar.

"Hey?" You hesitantly lifted your hand.

"You remember me, right? I'm Jamie! We texted earlier, and you blocked me. I'm Camry--well, I was Camryn's best friend."

Oh. He's that guy. The creepy one.

You grabbed Key by the wrist and turned around without a word. This boy was signing his death warrant by continuously trying to contact you.

"Y/n! Wait up, please!" You felt his hand coming down on your shoulder...

But then it was gone.

Key's typical lopsided smile made a reappearance as she held Jamie's arm in her steely grip. "Jamie, is it? I think I've made it very clear that no one in this school is allowed to touch Y/n here."

"Oh...uh, I didn't..."

"You didn't what?"

Jamie's throat bobbed. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause her any discomfort."
