A giant shadow monster had manifested itself in the middle of the city, forcing locals to run from the scene in fear.

I, of course, didn't let anything like that deter me from facing it head on to protect this city. I already failed with obtaining the Skeleton Key, I wasn't about to fail this one.

Pigsy had already attempted to attack the monster, only to get beaten easily. I managed to hold my own, dodging attacks with Quick Attack before attacking with either a Shadow Ball or Aura Sphere.

Mei also helped out. She used her dragon form for a bit before she got tired out and decided to just call MK, who was apparently training with Monkey King, and thus, totally oblivious to everything.

Despite the fact that I knew no Fire-type moves whatsoever, I used Sunny Day to weaken it immensely. The shadow monster shrunk down in size under the sun, just in time for MK's return.

"What did I miss?" MK asked, letting his hoverboard crash into a random streetlight.

"MK, what took you so long?" Mei questioned demandingly. I heard her fear spike as MK got closer to the monster, staff in hand.

"Sorry, sorry, Monkey King was making me do boring stuff. That the bad guy? Okay. Be right back. Here comes—!"

"No, wait!" Mei tried to stop him, but she was too late.

"—Monkie Kid!"

MK jumps up to attack the monster, only for a shadowy tendril to snag him and slam him back down into the ground, leaving a crater.

"Oh, yeah, we tried that." Mei pointed over at Pigsy, who ended up exactly like MK. Sandy cries dramatically as he covers Pigsy's head with a cloth.

"The only person who can fight it is (YN), but that's because they're totally cool and strong." I could feel Mei and MK's gazes on me as I went toe-to-toe with the monster. "They said nothing seems to affect it, but they're kicking its butt."

I spotted something out of the corner of my eye, a dark figure that also appeared to want to fight the monster.

Mei and MK also seemed to spot it.

"Is that—?" "Monkey King?" The two wondered aloud.

It was most definitely not Monkey King, I could see that. But I still recognized him...

That creepy shadow, Monkey King poser, Macaque guy who I am 100% certain has been watching me.

He defeats the monster with practiced ease, making my attempt to stop it almost laughable.

Once it vanishes into smoke, I jumped onto the roof he was on. "Well, isn't this a surprise?"

"Well hey! How's it going for you." He went to wrap his arm around my shoulder like we were old buddies, but I simply stopped him by giving him a high five and shifting myself away slightly.

He looked down at my bandages and frowned. "What happened?"

"It wasn't that shadow monster if you were wondering. Just got into a little scuffle with Red Son is all." I waved his worries off.

He raised a brow, and I could feel his scepticism, but the awkward ice was broken when MK pulled himself up.

"Yes! Monkey King!" And he fell off the building. Macaque went to turn around, only for MK to somehow pop up in front of him. "That was awesome. I can't believe you came back to -- oh, this is awkward. You're not Monkey King."

Macaque only smirked at him. "I get that a lot. Monkie Kid, right?"

"How did you—?"

"Your staff kind of gives you away, dude. Not just anyone can wield that thing." Macaque exclaims.
