Chapter 2

"I don't wanna talk about it..." I said, in a low voice. "Hmm. I understand" Ukyo said. I just stare at the fire in front of me, watching the flame dances softly. I clench my hands into tight fists, as I breathe slowly as an attempt to calm myself down. I don't ever want to go through that same experience again.

-Daily Patrolling-

Y/N P.O.V

I'm sitting on top of a rock, staring out into the distance. There are no birds flying around. I was confused at first, then remember... birds are also affected by that petrification beam.

"Y/N" someone called out for me. I turn my head and see it's Ukyo. "Yeah?" I said. Over the past few days, I'm slowly opening up to Ukyo. I feel a little more comfortable when talking with him.

"It's time for a patrol..." he said, gesturing that we should get going with his head. I just nod my head. I move to stand up and follows him as he walks away. We start to walk around the base, making sure there are no unusual activities.

"We've been walking for a while, nothing seem out of the ordinary..." Ukyo said. I just nod my head. He turn to look at me and smiles softly. "Shall we take a break?" He asked.

We climb up a tree and take a seat. I hold on knee close to my chest, as I let the other one dangle. I stare into the distance again. I heave out a long sigh.

"Wow... that's a long sigh. Something wrong?" Ukyo said, who's sitting on a branch higher than me. I turn to look at him and shake my head. "Nothing" I said. "You're still cautious about me, huh?" He said. "And you're not?" I said. He shakes his head.

"We're both partners. It's important to trust each other in order for us to work together. Besides... I know you won't hurt me..." he said. I stare at him with a raised eyebrow. "How can you be so sure?" I asked.

"You would've already done it if you'll hurt me..." he said. I just stare at him, he just gives me a close eyes smile. I look away from him. I stare at the distant. I notice the sky is slowly getting dark.

"We should probably head back..." Ukyo said. I just nod my head. We jump down the tree and start to make our way back to camp. I hear a loud gasp and turn my head to see Ukyo acting timid.

"Ukyo?" I said. His whole body starts to shake as he stares at the ground. "H-He's going a-at it again..." he said. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. "Who?" I said.

"He's destroying the statue again... Tsukasa" he said. He bites his lips. I can see tears building up in his eyes. I just stare at him, not knowing what to do. I never comforted a crying person.

He wipe his tears as he stops crying. He turns to look at me. "What's your view of Tsukasa's version of the world?" He said. I stare at him for a while as my mind went back to Tsukasa, and how he explains that he wants to create an Utopia free of greed. In order to do that, he starts destroying the statues of the adults.

"Ukyo... I'm not as safe of a person you think I am" I said. He stares at me with a raised eyebrow. "What do you mean?" He asked. "I've killed people before. Living human, not statues like Tsukasa did. But a real breathing human" I said. His eyes widened at what I said. I look away from him, and lower my gaze.

"But it was out of self defense. You had an easy life, Ukyo. Working as a sonar man... me? It's not like that at all. Sometimes I wished, I was never born" I said.

"Why?" He said. I turn to look at him. I shake my head. "I... don't wanna talk about it. But just know that I never wanted to be the way I was..." I said. He frowns, but nods his head. "It's okay, I get it. Come on, let's head back. Before Tsukasa start questioning where we are" he said. I just nod my head, agreeing with him. We start walking towards the empire base.

Time-skip

We made it to the base, Ukyo walks towards where Tsukasa is to report today's patrol. I make my way to where everyone is eating and take a seat by the fire. I hear footsteps coming closer to me. I turn my head to see it's the brunette girl, whom I now know as Yuzuriha.

"Hello, Y/N..." she said, smiling softly at me. I nod my head, acknowledging her presence. She take a seat next to me and hands me a portion. I take it from her.

"Thanks..." I said. Her smiles widens. Probably since that's the first time I talked to her. I look away from her and start to eat in silence.

"How do you like it so far?" Yuzuriha said. I turn to her and shrugs. "It's okay... I guess. At least... I don't have to worry about our previous live. Especially... I don't have to worry about the existence of science" I said. "You seem to dislike science?" She said. I scoff at what she said.

"Dislike isn't the right word for what I felt towards science... I despise science" I said. She stares at me with a troubled face. I stare at her, trying to see if I can read what she's thinking.

Yuzuriha P.O.V

Ever since Tsukasa revived Y/N. She have shown nothing but excellencies. She's very strong... almost inhumanly strong. She's also fast, and she have a very sharp eyes. She even manage to spot a deer in a very far distance.

Now I just learned that she hated science. At this rate. Tsukasa might not be the only threat. But Y/N too. If she learns that Senku-Kun is alive, and that she is trying to create a scientific civilization. I turn to look at Y/N to see her staring intently at me. The way she stares at me sends shiver down my spine. No... I shouldn't show her that I'm feeling nervous. I've got to hide the worry on my face. She can't know that Senku-kun's alive.

I give her a smile. "I see..." I said. She stares at me for a few more seconds and looks away. I let out a sigh of relief as I start to eat silently. That was so close. I have to warned Taiju-Kun that Y/N might be a danger to our plan.
