Chapter-16

Alright.... I am guilty *stoops her head low* But please don't hate me. I had been lacking inspiration for long and kinda got it back today! When i met my bestest friend after loooooooooong time. So, yes I am happy and finally in my own bones ;)

Chapter: 16

She is cut off by Mrs. Thompson “You can’t what?” this time Klaus tries to finally let their parents know of the truth. He breathes in sharply and looks at his hands folded in his lap, “We can’t marry each other.”

The three of them gasp. Caroline continues, “Dad, as you said, I talked to him. I tried to make a sensible conversation with him but…” Klaus cuts her off, “What wait! You tried to make a sensible conversation? All you can do is talk senseless.”

“What? How dare you! Don’t mess with me. I have had enough of you! Insect!” Caroline shrieks.

Mrs. Thompson gasps and stays voiceless.

“And you are an animal. A crazy animal!”

“And you are a filthy, creepy insect!”

“You are…”

“SHUT UP!” Mr. Hall shouts. Both of them avert their gaze to the audience in the room. Mrs. Thompson has covered her mouth with her hands and Mr. Thompson stand pale and unreceptive to anything just happened. And Mr. Hall is standing with clenched fists at his sides.

 “I am sorry for all this Rob and Megan. I never expected this to happen. I apologize of my son’s behavior.” Mr. Hall sighs.

“What, no father, it was her who started! Since the beginning in…” Before Klaus can finish, Mr. Hall cuts off by raising his palm at his son.

“I am sorry too Danny…” Rob says pausing to add weight to his words, “I am sorry for Caroline’s insane behavior. I should have seen this coming.”

“I think we should leave” Danny sighs again, “See you at the golf club.” He smiles and shakes hand with Rob and gives a quick sympathetic smile to Megan (Mrs. Thompson). And he leaves.

As the guests leave avoiding eye contact, Caroline rushes to her room to avoid ‘THE TALK’ with her parents.

On the way home, Klaus and Danny chose to adopt silence. They reach their Huge home. Once in, Klaus starts sprinting to his room as he hears his father call out for him, “Stop in your tracks.”

Klaus stops and turns to face his furious eyes. But before Klaus could interpret or ask for his forgiveness, he moves slowly to Klaus’s direction, “Klaus, Can you hear it?”

“What father?” Klaus asks perplexed, “I can’t hear anything father. It’s just you and me. No one else.”

He smiles at his son’s answer, and says “Son, yes you can hear it. It is silence. It is the loneliness. You know what son, I always thought I will never remarry after you mother left us and give my whole life in bringing you up. But now, when you are all grown up, all I am left here with is ‘Loneliness’” sighs.

Klaus dazes at him, his father never talks to him about how he felt when his mother died.

“And son, I am not an anti-happiness mutt. I want you to marry because I don’t want you to end up like me.” He pauses to relax his muscles, “Every girl I ask you to marry, you would just refuse. But this time, it hurt me the worst.”

“I am really sorry for my behavior earlier this morning. I really am. But Caroline… she pushes all the wrong buttons that make me despise her. I lost control over my nerves. And I have told you already, I am happy with Suzanne.”

“No! No Suzanne again!” Danny yells.

“Father! Father!”

Caroline takes her luggage and heads downstairs. Rob and Megan have situated themselves on the couch in the main hall. As they turn to see in the direction of footsteps approaching, they gasp to see Caroline with her luggage.

“So” he catches himself to look strong in front of his own daughter, his little Carrie, who has grown big enough to take her own decisions oblivious to the fact that she is hurting her own father in the process. “So, you are leaving.” It somehow seems more of a question. So Caroline nods slowly and takes a deep breath, “yes, I am leaving but before that I want to talk to you. Well actually apologize to you both. I have met Klaus before a few times and believe me they were the worst moments of my life.”

Mrs. Caroline sighs and clenches her husband’s hand for support. He taps her hand smoothly and she nods and let go of his hand. He stands up to face Caroline. “Just after few meetings how could you judge anyone? How could you be so inhumane to insult your parents’ guests, just because you could not get along with him? It’s just an excuse and is not required.”

Caroline clenched her fists, “You are defending him! He is nothing but a crazy-money-making-insect! All I feel for him is pure hatred! Dad, just lay your finger on any guy, and I will marry him but not Klaus. Not in this life!”

“But Hun, I think you don’t know him yet,” Megan speaks to her daughter finally, “You don’t know the sadness behind his craziness, the hard work behind that money making hands and the love for his father and crave for a mother behind that insect! Did you see it? Well I wonder you didn’t!”

“Sorry mom, all I could see in him was a stone cold heart. No matter why his father wants him to get married, just so he can get rid of his own son! No one can love him! He doesn’t deserve to be loved!”

“SHUT UP! Just shut up Caroline!” Rob’s voice blooms in the hall and Megan’s tears turn her vision blurry. “You are not my daughter. This girl standing in front of me is a stranger. I don’t even know you.” He sighs, “All I can see is a stone cold hearted girl.”

Caroline’s eyes widen with shock at the sudden grief in Rob’s voice. She then calms herself and carries her luggage and heads towards the door, to leave.

She throws her luggage in the trunk of her car and speeds off to the airport. Her flight will be leaving in an hour or so, then she will be finally out of this whole Klaus’s mess! May be then her parents will understand her and may forgive her. The thought of her parents, brings back the bad memories and she grips the steering wheel. Her vision turns blurry, her face burning with sudden rush of blood. She angrily wipes tears off her face. “I hate you Klaus!”

She presses hard on the accelerator to speed away, far away from this pain. She is lost in her own thoughts, as she sees someone, a guy, frantically waving to stop. She sees a car on the road side with open bonnet. ‘May be his car broke down.’ She thinks and pulls over her car. The guy came rushing to her side and waits desperately for her to lower her window. As she lowers the window, the guy says, “Please help, it’s my…” but he is too shocked to say anything else.

“Klaus!” she sighs, “not again.”

“Listen Caroline! I know you hate me. I don’t even care about anything else. For now, I need help.” He gulps, “It’s my father! Please help!” a tear rolls down his tear stricken face.
