Chap-15

<Caroline’s POV>

After a refreshing bath, I head downstairs to the dining hall for breakfast. As I was not planning on going to office today, so I decided to stay in comfy clothes. Yeah! I look ugly at home and I enjoy it.

Still in my PJs and off-shoulder yellow top, I land myself on my chair and look at Stella expectantly. Stella is my personal maid since the day I entered this house and I must agree that she has never given me any chance to miss Bella. And Lisa is an amazing cook. Stella comes to me holding her hands in front of her and bows.

“Hey Stella! What’s in there to eat? I am hungry like anything.”

She smiles and gestures Matt to serve breakfast. Soon Klaus rushes in the dining hall and all the maids and butlers look tensed in his presence. He takes his seat and Lisa appears from the kitchen and brings his duh! Boring breakfast. Lots of fruits and veggies.

How can anyone eat that stuff? I drop the idea if giving it a second thought and concentrated on my plate of cheese macaroni. Yummy! We eat in silence. It’s the first time we are eating together.

Umm… I think no. we have ate together before.

<Flashback>

Caroline unwillingly dresses up and decides, before getting to the dining room to join her family and guests, that she will look out for some way to cancel the whole proposal and every least chance of her getting married to the devil, Klaus himself. She reaches there and finds them waiting for her.

“I am sorry I am late. You might have started.” She says sheepishly.

“It’s okay Hun, Mr. Hall were willing to wait for you.” Her mother chimes in.

As her mother mentions Mr. Hall, her face turns in Klaus’s direction. ‘Weird’ she snaps, ‘pretending to be the good guy here.’

He uncomfortably clears his throat and says, “Ummm… Father wished to wait so we all agreed.”

As if on cue she relaxes and smiles at Mr. Hall. He smiles back. Bella along with other maids and butlers start serving the lunch with soup followed by starters and then the main course.

“The food was excellent.” Mr. Hall smiles towards Mrs. Thompson. “Well thank you Danny” she replies sheepishly.

They talk about random things until Mr. Hall draws their attention to the main stream.

“Well, when I was in my operation theatre and doctors were about to start my surgery, I had no idea whether I would survive it or not. I prayed. I said ‘Please god, let me survive this not for me; but for my son. He will be all alone without me. Let me find someone for her. So he won’t end up in loneliness as I did, when Tiara left me.’”

Mr. Thompson places a hand over Mr. Hall’s, “Danny I can’t say I understand how you must have felt, but you were always the strongest of us all. It would have been difficult for you. But you survived. And you have a loving son who would always take care of you.”

“See, that’s the thing. He will always be with me and take care of me. But me? How long will I be here for him?”

Klaus groans at his father’s statement and states as a matter of fact, “Father, no one is leaving any. You are here and will always be here. I am thankful to god for saving you for me. And that’s it.”

“Son, you have to understand it, I am not here for long, but you. You have your whole life ahead. That’s why I want you to get married.”

Klaus doesn’t respond but clenches his jaw. And Caroline stays as if a statue.
