I woke on the bus when it drove over what felt like a small pothole and panicked for a small moment when I saw I was only on the bus seat. I seat up and looked around to see Hawthorn sitting right behind me

"How did you sleep?" Hawthorn asked

"Good, how long was I out?" I asked

"A little while, We're in Arkansas now" Hawthorn said

"Really?" I asked

"Yeah" Hawthorn said

"When did I get on the bus? I don't remember walking on" I said

"You fell asleep right before we got on to our next bus so I carried you on and let you sleep there since there wasn't a lot of people on the bus" Hawthorn said

"I also gave you some nectar" Hawthorn said

"Thanks" I said.

I looked out the window and a feeling of homesickness hit me

"It feels weird to be out of Texas and not with my mom" I said

"Did you travel a lot with your mom?" Hawthorn asked

"I did, My mom Naomi Solace is a alt-country singer and she goes on tour a lot and I always go with her" I said

"She must be good if she goes on tour a lot" Hawthorn said

"She is, she has a great voice, something I didn't inherit" I said

"Not everyone is like their parents and that ok" Hawthorn said

"What about you?" I asked

"What about me?" Hawthorn asked

"What's your family like?" I asked

"Their amazing, I have a wife and a little girl" Hawthorn said with a smile as he reached into one of his pocket and pulled out his wallet which he then opened and pulled out a picture.

The picture had a woman with long black braided hair that went down to her waist and her eyes were the color of new leafs in the springtime. She had a simple green crop top on with sleeves that hung off her shoulders and she was holding a little girl.

The little girl had her mother's hair that was pulled up into a ponytail and she had Hawthorn eyes. She looked to be around 3 or 4 and she had a shirt like her mother only it was a light pink.

Both mother and daughter had wore nothing else and were their legs were was a pair of brown goat legs.

"What are their names? I asked

"My wife her name is Huckleberry she has beautiful Black hair that she always keeps in braid but everyday she like to try a new kind of braid" Hawthorn said as he pointed to his wife then he pointed to his daughter

"This is my baby girl her name is Thornberry and as you can see she has her mother's black hair and my eyes. Huckleberry liked the idea of using parts of each of ours names when naming her" Hawthorn said with a smile

"How old is Thornberry?" I asked

"She's 4" Hawthorn said

"That's really young, does it bother you to be away?" I asked

"Everytime" Hawthorn said.

"Then why do you leave? Why not just stay home with your family?" I asked

"Leaving is part of my job but I have been thinking about retiring, I don't want to miss to much of Thornberry's childhood or have something happen to me to where I leave Huckleberry is a single mother and Thornberry without a father" Hawthorn said

"I think you deserve that, you're a good protector" I said

The bus stopped and the man driving informed us that it was time for us to get off so we grabbed our backpacks and walked off the bus and sat down on a bench to wait for our next bus.

"I feel like things have been going to smoothly" Hawthorn said as we sat waiting.

and as he did I saw our next bus and I immediately noticed 4 things that were wrong.

One, there were no passengers that I could see.

Two, the driver was a kid who looked around my age.

Three, the bus was going way to fast

And four, the bus was driving right at us

"Of course" Hawthorn said before he grabbed my arm and jumped out of the way of the bus right before it crashed into the bench as we fell to the ground.

"I think you jinxed us" I said as I slowly pushed myself up to a sitting position.

"I think your right" Hawthorn said before he jumped up suddenly

"What's wrong?" I asked

"The kid in the bus, I'm pretty sure his is a half-blood" Hawthorn said and that got me up real fast.

We ran over to the bus to see that it had almost the entire front end of it crushed in and was smoking from the engine.

We carefully stepped inside the bus and saw a boy with a honey skin tone, light brown hair and coffee brown eyes. he was wearing a plain light blue shirt and dark jean shorts with black sandles, and I noticed he was holding his arm to himself like it was injured as he sat on the floor under the bus steering wheel
