We stayed where we were for only a few more moments before we got up and made our way to the bus station.
"Two bus tickets" Hawthorn said
"Where are you heading?" The man at the ticket booth asked.
The man had long black hair that was shaved on both sides and French braided down the middle.
"Manhattan" Hawthorn said
"Manhattan as in New York Manhattan?" The man asked
"Yeah" Hawthorn said
"That's a long ways away, why don't you fly there?" The man asked
"He has a heart condition that won't allow him to fly" I said
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that" The man said as he handed our tickets out for us to grab
"It's fine, I know what I should and shouldn't do" Hawthorn said as he grabbed the tickets and handed the man the needed money
"Well, I hope you and your son have a great trip" the man said
"So do we" Hawthorn said before we walked away from the ticket booth and over to the bus where a lady in a blue dress with short red hair and brown eyes sat in the driver's seat and took people's tickets and they got on.
"Tickets please" the lady said as we stepped on the bus.
"Here you go" Hawthorn said as handed her our tickets
"Looks like you have a long trip ahead of you, there'll be a lot of stops and you'll need to swap busses a few times" The lady said as she looked at our tickets.
"I'll let you know when you need to get off" The lady said with a smile.
"Thank you" Hawthorn said.
We walked to the back of the bus and sat down after taking our backpacks off and setting them at our feet so that we could grabbed them quickly if needed
"How long will it take to get to camp from here?" I asked
"A little over a day, if nothing goes wrong" Hawthorn said
"I really hope nothing does" I said
"You and me both kid, you and me both" Hawthorn said with a tired look on his face
"Did you want to sleep?" I asked
"I'm fine" Hawthorn said half asleep already
"I can keep watch for you if you want, you know it's okay to not be ok" I said quoting him
"Ok, you win kid" Hawthorn said with a small chuckle
"Here take this, only use it if you need to and you can't wake me up right away" Hawthorn said as he reach under his shirt and pulled out one of his daggers and gave it to me.
"I can just whistle to wake you up" I said
"Gods, no. I don't want to lose my hearing and I will if you whistle this close to me in a bus" Hawthorn said and I laughed a little.
As I watched his head slowly fall to the side I reached into my backpack and pulled out my old shirt and rolled it into a pillow for him so that his neck didn't hurt as much when he woke up
Hawthorn slept until we made our last stop on the bus we were in.
"Time to get off kid" The driver said as she turned to look at me and Hawthorn
"Ok, just let me wake him up" I said and she nodded
"Hawthorn?" I said gently shaking him
"Uh, what's up?" Hawthorn asked as he slowly woke up
"It's time to swap busses" I said
"Already? was I out that long?" Hawthorn asked
"Yeah, I didn't want to wake you, you looked really tired after running as far as you did" I said
"Thanks kid, I'll make sure and return the favor when we get on the next bus" Hawthorn said as he sat upright.
When my old shirt fell he looked down at it then reach down and picked it up
"Did you use this as a make shif pillow for me?" Hawthorn asked
"I wanted to make sure you were comfortable so that you didn't wake up with a sore neck" I said
"You are a good kid you know that" Hawthorn said as he ruffled my hair
"Yeah, tell that to the other kids at my school" I said as We grabbed our bags and walked off the bus then sat down to wait for our next bus to arrive and it was then that I noticed how tired I was
"Do the other kids at school pick on you a lot?" Hawthorn asked
"It's mostly just two of the boys there who like to make fun of me because I had ADHD and dyslexia, that and they laugh at me and call me a mama's boy because she always drops me off at school and never lets me ride the bus" I said
"Let them laugh all they want, They couldn't do any of the things you've done since I've met you and I doubt their as brave as you" Hawthorn said
"I can see why you are a therapist, you're a good listener" I said and I felt my eyes drop and I leaned on his shoulder before falling asleep.
