Elliot refused to go back to sleep until we'd checked on everyone, which really just made my life more difficult. It didn't take us long to find anyone despite the time. Lewis was in the town square, taking notes and it seemed that almost the whole town was here.
Somehow, Elliot spotted Abigail in the crowd and immediately started moving towards her without another look in my direction. I watched him go before heading towards Lewis.
"Cass? Thank goodness, is the farm okay??" He asked, checking my name off of a list that still looked quite empty. "I haven't checked yet, can I see that?" I asked, taking it from him to scan the names.
I checked off Elliot and Abby before doing a quick check for everyone else. In the end, I was left with only two names missing, Leah and Shane.
I glanced around again, checking to see if I was wrong, but sure enough, Leah was no where in sight and while I hadn't really met Shane yet, I knew what he looked like and he surely wasn't here.
I left Lewis, rushing back over to Abigail. "Did you and Leah walk together?" I asked.
She nodded, "Only too my place, she dropped me off and continued there, why?" I handed her the list, thinking maybe Leah decided she needed her beauty sleep and stayed home but something told me she wasn't that stupid.
"She's not here? Shane too??" Abigail started spinning around. Elliot's face had gone completely white as he glanced at the list in Abigail's hands. "We only left after the storm ended though, so she must be fine."
Lewis finally caught up too me, noticing the list, he cleared his throat and got everyone's attention.
"Has anybody seen Leah or Shane?"
Silence.
"Dammit." Elliot muttered, his demeanour changing completely.
"I'm going to see if she made it home, Someone check for Shane." He left without waiting to see if anyone was listening. But, everyone was, Lewis told everyone to stay in groups and slowly, the townspeople split up, all heading in different directions to search for their missing friends.
As much as I wanted to not be doing this, Abigail dragged me along with her, Sam and Sebastian. The boys seemed less than happy about the situation, i purposely placed myself next to Abigail, in front of them so that they could be touchy if they wanted.
No one seemed worried. I lit a cigarette and took a puff before offering it to Abigail, i half expected her to decline it but she didn't even hesitate. I guess she'd given up on hiding me and her habits.
We walked around town slowly, no matter where we went, I could hear people calling names. If they were still alive, Leah and Shane would surely hear everyone searching for them.
We'd done a circle of the whole town and had just reached the town square when I heard my someone calling my name.
It was actually more of an ugly shriek and I was shocked to see that it was coming from Elliot who was running towards us at an amazing speed.
Abigail had to steady him but he kept his eyes locked on me, or more specifically, my ax that was sticking out of my bag.
"A tree fell on Shane." He finally forced out.
Fear hit everyone's face, Abigail started moving but I stayed put, watching Elliot's face as he considered his next move.
"Guys come on." Abby called out, impatient.
Sam and Sebastian went ahead without her, running faster than I thought gays could.
"Cass, can you-."
