I stayed close behind Bella in Cass' cabin. it was a mess. There were clothes everywhere and empty ice bags shoved in the corner.Bella disappeared into the bathroom for a few moments and came back out carrying more empty ice bags and Cass' phone.
she handed me his phone and pulled out a chair, "sit."
Cass flipped the chair and collapsed into it, using the back to support his chest.
I pulled out the other chair and sat facing him while Bella started pulling items out of her suitcase.
"You should've told Harvey about this. You could've been fixed up right away."
He blew a piece of hair out of his face and met my gaze. "Not a good idea." His expression told me not to pursue the topic so I shut my mouth.
"Do you want-."
"No."
Bella stepped between us and held out a pill bottle. "Last chance. Are you going to be fine with me touching you."
"Just do it. I'm not taking anything." Bella placed the pill bottle on the table and began tugging on a pair of blue gloves.
"Shirt." she ordered.
Cass winked at me before tugging his shirt off and tossing it to the ground, giving me a full view of the tattoo that covered his body.
The lines were perfect, from the tail that disappeared just below his hips to the horns that traveled around his neck. It was some of the greatest art i'd ever seen.
The great art however, was not enough to distract me from everything else. Cass had always looked thin and he was but I could tell that he was muscular, even though it didn't show. I could also see the faint scars traveling from either side of his back, barely noticeable from the front but just enough that I began to understand why Cass was so hesitant to see Harvey.
"I'm starting now. Talk to me Cass. How's Marcus?" Bella started, pushing the needle in.
Cass winced and then let out a laugh, "Wouldn't know. it's been a few days since we spoke."
Bella nodded, continuing her work.
Cass began to shake his leg, forcing Bella to take a step back. "Cass." She warned.
"I can't stop focusing on your hands." He whispered, probably not intending for me to hear.
"You know, I have a theory about you." I chimed in. Cass' usual amused look returned to his face as his gaze met mine.
"Do you Angel?" He smiled.
I scrambled to put together everything I knew about Cass and settled for spouting nonsense. "You haven't been here long but I've already witnessed your many different personalities."
"You mean his tendency to control." Bella cut in. she'd returned to her work and Cass hadn't seemed to notice yet.
"I hadn't thought of it like that but it makes sense. You know how to push people's buttons." I agreed.
Bella let out a small sigh but didn't say much else on the matter.
"Sure, let's say I notice things. What does that matter."
"I don't know. But, it seems to make people think things about you."
"People like you?" He asked.
"Done!" I let out the breath I was holding as Bella announced her completion. I wasn't about to admit how well Cass was playing with my emotions.
